Watching UM-UWM in Prague?

Submitted by ChalmersE on
I'm going to be in Prague next Saturday. I know this may sound crazy, but by any chance, is there any place there where folks watch games?

You MUST get to Vlatislaw's Hearty AssChaps & Borscht on the corner of Hynnmvswfrt and 1987th st. Let me tell you, the last time I was there was too wild! I woke up the next morning in bed with Vaclav Havel and Zha Zha Gabor in a swank motel somwhere in Siberia, and I can't tell you how much trouble we had getting back to Havel's Zlaty, which he double parked--and the fucking thing got towed.

I'm not sure about places to watch the game, but if you're visiting Prague for the first time and aren't going to be there for weeks, you may just want to spend those three hours exploring the city. I was there for 1.5 days in January, and that wasn't nearly enough time to even get close to seeing everything I wanted to. Unfortunately, I didn't see any sports bars when I was there, so I can't really be any help other than that.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even if such a bar exists you won't be able to watch the game. ESPN America is the only source for live games on TV and it's not showing the game... your only options will be to be listen to on the radio (the lazy man's choice) or to scour the internet for it. Sorry.

Go to the Darling Cabaret. They wont have the game on, but the women are unreal. The Chateau Rouge is also a fun bar with a strong international feel...the may have the ability to broadcast the game. The Dubliner Irish Pub is also a good place but their main focus is futbol and the NFL...its worth checking.

I tried channelsurfind and justin.tv for game last year in France and it just was not happening...the latency and bandwidth were not good enough for those sites. They're a bit sketchy even back here, much less trying to route to you 5000 miles away. I'm going to be in Australia for WMU and somewhere overseas for the third game, I'm hoping that the BigTenTicket.com thing will launch in time. It's a high def streaming service specifically designed for use overseas, so it sounds perfect. Although given that the URL is just redirecting to bigtennetwork.com right now I'm not optimistic that it will be available in a week for the game...

Get a slingbox, iphone and buy the app. You have a number of Wifi spots all over the city you can jump on. Just make sure you don't use the cell towers, or you'll pay a ton!

Prague is one of my favorite cities in the world.... When I was in Munich this Spring with some friends, one Sparty woke up at 3AM to go to the hotel lobby and "watch" the Championship Basketball game via sportsline.com for about a euro per 20 min....Idk.. kinda sucks, but if youre that obbsessed

Slingbox is the way to go. You definitely have enough time to buy one and have someone hook it up in their house just for the time being. I am in Adelaide Australia and that is what I did. It is really easy.

I studied abroad in Prague 2nd semester of my junior year (2007) and if you need any help on where to go, what to do, where to eat, how to get around...don't hesitate to reach out. I am heading back for graduate school in October and needless to say I am very excited. Your best bet is either a)Legends or b)Jagr's. Legends is right behind Old Town Square while Jagr's is right in Wenceslas Square. Both are very convenient, however Legends is a better bar. Have a great trip. Enjoy Praha.
