Watched the Game Again

Submitted by DirkMcGurk on
I watched the game again on my DVR and went back a few time consent rating on the lines, RB and linebackers. A few points. 1. Miller was good in pass protection, but seemed to get pushed back a half yard when it was a run. Seems we will be going left or right most times. 2. I wasn't overly impressed with the FB's they seemed slow to find their guy to block and had Kerridge got his guy a few runs could have gone for big gets gains. 3. Fitz needs to be more instinctive. He seems to get the ball and start looking for cut backs. This has always been a beef with me about him. 4. Ross had issues when linemen got to him. We all sort of knee this could be a issue and it showed. 5. Clark needs to read runs better because he is caught up field too often. 6. Linebackers need to be more under control. Too many times they rushed to fast and missed a TFL because of it. Overall the team looked good for the first game against another team. I am sure Hoke had a list of 30 things or more. Go Blue

actually, a true michigan man (im one, in more ways than ill ever let on here), when the team hasnt won a big ten championship in nine years, welcomes as much constructive criticism as possible, instead of worrying about 'feelings'.... go root for msu then.

the program has been down for nine years, right?   dirk is doing a service... well done dirk...

It is so great when a dozen or so in the MGoCommunity feel the need to post the post DVR observations. Perhaps we can shoot for 100 after the ND game?

Wyoming exposed a lot of Nebraska's faults... I think Nebraska winning is a good thing for two reasons:
1.) makes the Big Ten slightly less embarrassing.
2.) didn't piss them off and light a fire under the players asses knowing they lost to who? What's a Wyoming?

...and for a "fat & out of shape" guy, Green had some decent speed when he got into the open field; not sure if it was LB or DB pursuing him, but Green was pulling away from him a little. Kid has a ton of potential, as do pretty much all of our other young guys.

On a second viewing I thought Norfleet did better than my first impression, I also thought Rawls and Hayes had a couple really great runs. Showed elusiveness and burst I don't remember seeing last year.

The final stat line on kick returns for Dennis Norfleet was 4 returns for 106 yards, or 26.5 yards per return. That's a limited sample, but it is about a 3 yard improvement on last year's average return for Norfleet. It's significant enough to note despite the season being young at this point - he really did look quicker and more elusive on returns.

I'm with you on Fitz. He'd be a good 2nd or 3rd option on a good running team, but his instincts and top end speed are not that great for a guy his size. I don't think you can be a run-first team with him as your primary running back -- at least the 2013 version of Fitz. With that said, I'm not willing to annoit any of the other guys as our savior after only a handful of carries.

Nonsense. I said he's not going to carry a run-dominated team. That basically means I do not think he's an All-Big Ten running back. Fitz is NOT terrible, and the only way you could think I implied as much is if you live in a binary world where everything is either awesome or sucks.

Terrible would be saying he shouldn't be on a MAC team. This guy is comparing talent to past backs and his eyes Fitz is meeting those expectations. You ASSumed that was him saying terrible. Seems to be guys M. O on these boards

A bit of sarcasm went undetected by you. But I believe the only overreaction was by you saying that Fitz is not a primary/every down back. He was a 1000+ yard rusher in 2011. I bet those comments werent made back then.

If he continues to struggle in the next few games, then I will agree with you, but lets reserve our judgement until then.

Pardon the snark, but how is it even possible to have this many typos?  Did you take the letter stickers off your keyboard?

Toussaint has already been the primary running back on a team that was run-first and ranked 13th best in rushing in the nation.  Either instincts and top end speed are not as important as you think they are, or you can't recognize them when they are present.

We'll do fine with Fitz.  It'll take the Oine a while to sort itself out, but even before it does, opponants will have to respect the run with Fitz back there.
