Washington and Ash.

Submitted by Mich1993 on

I'm starting to feel better about NT depth after this year.  Although Washington and Ash have not played much, each of them were mentioned by Brady Hoke in news conferences without being asked.

Last week, Brady was asked if he wanted to get Devin Gardner in the game, and Brady's answer was that he wanted to get a lot of people into the game, like Quinton Washington.  This week, he was asked about morale and getting backups in.  Brady's answer was about how good it was to get Ash into the game.

I also rewatched the end of the Minnesota game and Ash and Washington were in together.  Nothing spectacular and it was Minnesota, but they seemed to do fine.

Not feeling as good about 3-tech and 5-tech, but that's probably why Brady went after Wormley, Godin and Strobel.  I imagine two of these three will play next year behind Campbell.

I think if Campbell can come along we'll be fine at the 3-tech.  I think Washington could play both, and Ash looks like more of a pure NT.  Plus, at least from what Pipkins keeps saying, the coaches are telling him he has a shot to start as a freshman.  Normally I call BS on something like that, but he his about 320, and the pictures of him show he is not a "BWC" type physique coming out of high school.  Basically, I think the 3-tech will be OK as well.  But I agree on the 5-tech.  Who do we have?  A RS frosh Chris Rock.  And then true freshman Godin, Strobel, and Wormley. I'm much more worried about that position.  Kind of Doom-erific.

Next year we could move Roh to the 5-tech in order to start Jibreel Black as the WDE.  That would accomplish getting our best players on the field.  Plus, Roh is listed at 269 this year; at 6'5" it's not crazy to imagine him at 275-280 in order to hold up as the 5-tech.

Nose tackle on the other hand ... ::shudders:: ...

I don't like making projections on incoming freshman because usually I am wrong(except on Blake Countess), but I think Pipkins will be a four year starter...or three year if leaves early he's ready now like right now.

I tend to agree, I am more excited about Pipkins than I am any other recruit thus far in this class. He looks like he will be at least a three year starter. Everywhere he goes he completely dominates.

The only players we lose on defense are VanBergen and Martin(and Woolfolk, but he is not himself and Countess, Taylor etc can replace him). If Campbell and someone else can man the  middle of the line, we will have a top 25 defense next year.

I agree, I'm really lookig forward to Ondre coming to anchor the line. I live in the KC area and I'm going to try to make it to Ondre's game with Lee's Summit West this Friday. I believe that's the team that has Evan Boehm (spelling?) who is one of the top offensive linemen at his position (committed to Missouri). Ondre and Evan went at each other in in camp and Ondre manhandled him. It should be fun to watch.

I saw Quinton checking his e-whatever at the food pond in the Union after the game last week.  He looks like he has been chiseled out of a boulder.  He is listed as 6'4" and 302.

If he wanted my biggie fries ... i would have said ... OK.
