Was pro Tourney now against, long live the BCS

Backstory: So my gf is gone for the beginning of spring break and is a huge and I mean huge Jayhawks fan. Well you just saw how that turned out, I'm sure she's super pissed and I really wonder if she'll even watch the rest of the tournament which is her favorite thing of the year. MyStory: Now Imagine this Michigan is no 1 in the 8team/whatever team football tourney, and the favorite. If they lost say to the first game to the last seed, I think the playoff would be ruined for me. Being such a heavy favorite and getting beat is heart breaking, during that bowl game losing streak it was heart breaking but didnt ruin my desire to watch other games since I already knew where Michigan's place was. If they were in the rose bowl a win didnt mean we were gonna play in the national championship. So i could watch the national championship game and not feel the pain of a michigan loss earlier. What are you guys opinion on this? The only for against you usually see is cause the BCS is wack/ doesnt give a true champion. Well yes i still believe that but hell if we were number 1 and win that game I'm not gonna complain how we're not a true champion.

make you stop watching the tournament? Of course you will be disappointed that your team lost but atleast you had the opportunity to play for the championship. Michigan goes 11-0 but so does USC and Florida, who do you think will be playing for the Championship. That is why the BCS sucks and why March Madness is so great. All 65 teams have a chance to win a National Title, 55 of those teams have a million to one shot but it is still a shot.

an N-game winning streak against escalating competition leaves no question as to what the answer is. I'd be pissed if Michigan lost in any playoff, but barring some egregiously bad call/no-call on a ref's part the integrity of the tournament is sound. Win the damn game.

have an off-game so it happened or some "inferior" team had a game of their life(like Villanova in the late 1980's against Georgetown even though Georgetown smashed Nova twice in the regular season. Is Nova the best team in the country? As for the overall body of work, no. They just happened to be on the hot run). Sometimes a great team don't match up well against certain team. Does it mean that this great team isn't the best in the country? You can't say that in the playoff where one and done is basically crapshoot.

it's not necessarily if we would watch, but the rest of the country just picked up their new favorite team. For the record, I would still watch, despite the heartbreak.

It depends on the sport. In the NBA, after the Pistons lose/don't make it, I lose almost complete interest. In something like bowl games or the Tourney, I lose obsessive interest for a day or two, but then usually come back to it, if with a little less excitment. I'm glad you were taking it someplace different. I thought we had posted the same dang thing.

.: period. Used to signify the end of a sentence. ,: comma. Separates clauses and lists of things. ;: semi-colon: Separates independent clauses. With these three punctuation marks, you can make your title much clearer. For example, Was pro Tourney, now against. long live the BCS. The first sentence is still a fragment, but now we know what you're talking about. Here is another option: I was pro Tourney, but now I'm against; long live the BCS. Note how the semi-colon was used to separate two clauses that could stand alone as their own sentences. There are many other punctuation marks. I suggest you explore their uses.

UNI is the top 9 seed in the country (#33 overall). A better analogy would be Kansas losing to Kansas State (bottom 2 seed, #8 overall).

The #33 team in the country isn't a top tier team nationally. The #8 team is. Should the BCS include 32 teams in a season ending tournament, I would be annoyed because the value of the regular season would have been negated. The same probably goes for a 16 team tournament. However, a tournament featuring 8 teams would be taking the best teams in the country and if Michigan were to lose to one of them as a 1-seed, I would definitely think it was fair.

I think I could still watch. Immediately after we lost, I'd probably shut the TV off and go throw something and promise I won't watch the rest of the playoffs. But, I think at the end of the day, I'd still be watching the games. Michigan hasn't made a bowl game in 2 years, I've still watched bowl games even though, say, OSU "knocked us out" so to speak by beating us in the last game of the season.

Now imagine this. Michigan has only 1 loss and it is to the number 1 team in the country, on the road, by 3 points and they get left out of the national championship game for another 1 loss team, whose loss is certainly less impressive than ours. I think I would prefer a playoff. Screw the BCS.

And I won't change my mind just because the team I cheer for lost. Anything is better than the cockamamie bowl system we have now.

I might not even watch College basketball if it weren't for the tourney. Can't imagine anyone thinking the BCS is a better post-season set up than the tourney.

Does anyone watch BCS games their team is not in? The BCS makes every bowl game irrelevant except the one your team is in and the championship game. The Tournament format has compelling matchups up and down and they get progressively more compelling as it wears on. Now, there is something to be said for a Final Four that would feature UN-Iowa, Wofford, Duke and kentucky--and about 17 people watching it. BUT--there is no way the BCS matches up with the NCAA Baskebtall Tournament and it being even 1/3rd as interesting leading up to any championship game. The BCS sucks arse. Period.

I just can't fathom how someone could watch some of these games and decided this isn't an awesome format. Does it neccesarily crown "the best" team? No. But, as a fan, it's fucking awesome. It gives teams like UNI and St. Mary's a chance to play against the big-time competition, and doesn't marginalize them because they didn't meet the press and the fans' preconceived notion (hi, Boise St. and TCU!) of who is better. If you guys are going to try to upset the entire apple-cart because Kansas lost, why have playoffs at all? You're all obviously certain Kansas was the best team - why don't you just crown them at the end of the season? You're upset because you thought Kansas was the best, and you're wrong. The tournament is great because it DOESN'T eliminate 315 of the teams in NCAA basketball before a tip-off has occurred, the way the BCS does (if you're not ranked in the top 15 to start the year, you'll likely not play for the championship). It makes the teams win the Championship ON THE COURT, not in your head. And it's not like every playoff system makes sense. In baseball, we make teams play 162 games, throw out the results, and then act like a 7-game series is the determining factor? That's how you get "2006 Champion St. Louis Cardinals".
