That first half might have been the best half I've ever seen M play
October 1st, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
Did you watch any of our kickoffs ... and our kick coverage???
October 1st, 2011 at 3:21 PM ^
Did you watch Minnesota hold the hell out of every single one of our Special Teams players and get flagged 6 times?
October 1st, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
I saw Minnesota run one back for a TD and the hold call was 5 yards behind the runner, with the guy being held coming in on an angle 5 yards behind the runner .. Im just saying we need to tighten up our kick coverage
October 1st, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
That and if Minny wasn't so stupid, more of M's kickoffs would have been out of bounds. I like how the defense is coming together and Denard has a confidenced building passing day, but special teams is atrocious so far this year.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
I wouldn't say ALL of special teams have been atrocious. Kick and punt coverage has been bad, but Gallon has been reliable fielding punts and our kick returns have been okay. We do really need to work on the coverage aspect.
October 1st, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
in the first 4 games. Today it broke down for sure.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
Definitely not a perfect game. But I don't blame the OP for getting carried away after our first shutout in four years.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
I think there was stuff we can improve on. But the execution was amazing today. If there is a such thing as a "perfect game"...we were close, IMO.
The offensive playcalling was amazing.

SHUTOUT! BOOKING MY TICKETS NOW FOR...(wait can't jinx it, can't jinx it...)
October 1st, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
now THAT was a perfect game.
brady hoke will tell you every week there's room for improvement, but a shutout is as close as you can get for a "perfect game" for a football defense.

And it keeps making me happier and happier
October 1st, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
decided that "bitching about bitching" was unnecessary, so went with the perfect game/baseball theme and tigers reference. i'm a sad, sad tribe fan, but support detroit come playoff time. eat'em up, tigers!

My humble offering..
October 1st, 2011 at 3:21 PM ^
I only got to watch Denardness for a half. So no.
We do that to TSIO and keep in the 1s for the whole 2nd half and its a guarentee

coaching staff. even if the team plays well, they say there's always room for improvement. never saw that under RR
October 1st, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
I must have missed the presser in which RichRod declared Michigan to be perfect with no need for improvement
October 1st, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
That isn't defending some Rich Rod slight? Are you related?
October 1st, 2011 at 5:35 PM ^
I talk about recruiting and basketball and our football team this year and where I think we are headed. I post plenty on things not related to RichRod.
Although thank you for reading and following my posts so closely.
October 1st, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
all i'm saying is that Rich Rod never seemed to be really disappointed with giving up 35 pts to indiana and hoke is dissapointed in giving up 7 to SD State
October 1st, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Are you really comparing the two coaches after winning a game and using that as something to complain about the prior coaching staff? Ugh.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
Yes. Yes it was.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
Mike Tyson looked perfect against Peter McNeely, not so much against Holyfield.

Great performances only matters when it's done against good competition.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
Perfect game? It was a sold and improving Michigan team against a hapless Minnesota team with its starting QB out with a coach who has missed a lot of practice. Never the less, some very intersting offensive play calling, several field goals and a coach who was classy in victory. Lots of room for improvement on kickoffs and punts, but when you win 58-0, there is little room to complain.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:28 PM ^
Michigan played very, very well. But Minnesota is an absolutely terrible football team, Gray's injury notwithstanding. It's nice to see our O and D not being competition invariant, though.
This was like a 1970s Big 2 Little 8 beatdown of yore. It was a little like watching a snuff film at times, though. I felt a little queasy when Avery scored. Oh well, karma and AMBHG owe us big time after the last three years. Not to say that the coaches and players didn't earn it, of course.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:29 PM ^
I hope this game can give Michigan hope's for an undefeated season. Sometimes a win like this can give teams confidence but it can also make teams to confident and then can screw up.. it goes both ways?
October 1st, 2011 at 3:29 PM ^
No. Poor execution of the Maize-Out.
Serious answer: Other than some special teams stuff, yes.
October 1st, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
Have we ever had a well executed maize-out? IMO we should just give up on these. No one can do it quite like happy valley, and we should just let it be their thing.

There will be plenty of things to learn from the game film. For example, there were a few drops and a few bad decisions throwing the ball. They played very very well, but the old saying "it's never as good as it looks, and it's never as bad as it looks" certainly applies to this game film.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
Closest thing to perfect you can ask for.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
Now that's a return to tradition! I'm sure it wasn't perfect. But it seemed like old-time UM domination. Way to go, Brady!
October 1st, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
I'm glad Gibby was able to get out there and get some of his swag back.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
Both the offense and defense played well. Special teams are still a work in progress that will need to improve in the next week. They seem quick enough and get down field but they just fail to contain and many miss tackles. This will have to improve! Kicker will need to kick the ball deeper!
This was not the MN team that played USC close...but USC may not be that good of a team.
Next week we need to keep scoring those points and hope the D continues to play well.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
but what is most encouraging to me is that this team continues to make progress and improvement on a week-by-week basis. It may have been just a bad Minnesota team, but it was a shutout AND I seem to recall struggling to beat a pretty bad Indiana team in the Big Ten opener last year. For the first time in years I can tell that team is coming together as the season progresses and it's making me look forward to the Big Ten conference games.

No doubt we're getting better every week, especially on defense. And the fact that we now have a kicking game makes a huge difference. But it's hard to judge against a team like Minnesota. If this had been Michigan State or Ohio, I'd say yes, it was the perfect game.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
No. 3 silly penalties including one that negates a TD. Kck coverage needs work. IMO you dont show the gadgets before you need to. No reason to give NW or little brother a chance to plan.

A very solid performance but not perfect.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:48 PM ^
Toussaint wouldn't have been able to burst through the line if he hadn't held (or gotten his head around and gotten a good block). So that penalty was the cause of the TD, IMO
But yes we've still got lots to work on agreed. SHUTOUT! sorry.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
I believe that's the point of Gorgeous calling all those. Every other team we are gonna have another headache to think about besides the big one Denard already is. Good luck B1G defenses!!
October 1st, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
is unattainable ... but that was exactly perfect as in what this team needed.

October 1st, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
You're in trouble. The whole point is teams do need to plan for it now; which means they're taking time from planning for the bread and butter. Making that more effective. Nothing they were running were real surprise tricks. Just packages that makes preparing for them a pain.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
It wasn't perfect, but hell it was at least a no-hitter...in a football sense of course...

but it was the best performance Michigan has shown in a long long time. We were supposed to beat Minnesota and we did. After years of games being "too exciting" when we were supposed to dominate, it's good to have one of these under our belts.
With that said, I do feel for the gophers and the trouble Coach Kill has had. I hope they regroup and win some games.
October 1st, 2011 at 3:57 PM ^
But that's the most complete game Michigan has played in a long, long, time. I know Minnesota is really bad, but they didn't just cover the spread, they almost tripled it. Minnesota was in Michigan territory twice. We averaged more than 7.5 yards per carry. Denard was 15/19, with 2 drops. Won turnover margin 2-0 with a fumble return for TD. 3/3 on field goals, 7/7 on extra points. 3 penalties total. Minnesota had twice as many yards in punts as they did in offense... and it was a SHUTOUT!
