Warren's Interception

Just read an article, where Warren stated that he hit the ground and then just out tugged him for the ball. I'm not sure he should have said it; doesn't it call into question whether it was a legit interception. Also, I'm not sure that control was ever established by the offensive player, not sure on the rules, but I assume that you would have to be able to see in the video that he had posession which I couldn't see, so I think it was the right call. The announcers seemed to think it was an obvious reversal... what's the rule say?

Of course he's going to out-tug the receiver! You don't expect him to just say, "Dibs, got it!" and let go, do you? Warren had initial possession, the receiver was a split-second late and tried to wrestle it away.

Warren won.

i.e. there seems to be a new rule that took away the ND TD last week that Michael Floyd appeared to catch.

Floyd had control all the way until he hit the ground, but the ball bounced out upon impact. I thought it was a TD, but apparently this year you have to maintain possession through the ground impact.

If the ball had come loose instead of Warren taking sole possession, should the play have been ruled an incompletion? If the loss of possession by the WR receiver came "close enough" to the ground impact (I don't know how to define that), then I believe the call would be correct.

In 2008, that's an IU catch for sure.

The call on the field was an interception, we can go argue all day about the call itself, but the review crew upstairs must have indisputbale evidence to overturn the call on the field, which the replay certainly did not reflect anything that was indisputable. If you want to start about the refs, what about the mutiple pick plays IU ran, the phantom PI call, etc. The refs were shitty both ways. But lets not waste our time. Its Sparty week.

If Forcier is healthy tomorrow, this game turned out fine. Robinson got some much-needed experience, UM got the win, and Forcier enhanced his reputation as a gritty QB, only four games into the season.
