Warren Buffett - Michigan Fan?

Submitted by Yo_Blue on

Everyone knows that Warren Buffett is a huge fan and supporter of Nebraska football.  During the Person to Person show on CBS, Buffett gave a tour of his Berkshire Hathaway offices.  In a cabinet outside his office he had a large display of memorabilia including a Nebraska football helmet.  But prominently displayed above that was a Michigan helmet (along with a Kansas City Chiefs helmet).

I believe Buffett wrote the forward to Bo's Lasting Lessons book.  Is this related?  Does anyone know why he has a UM helmet?

Before I get too excited, I should point out that he also has a sign above his office door that reads "Invest like a champion today".  Ugh.  The Hell with Notre Dame!

Buffet's business partner, Charlie Munger, is a Michigan grad and has donated something like $25M to the school. It's possible that may have something to do with it.

You can read the whole story in "Hail to the Victors 2009".  Unfortunately with Maple Street Press out of business you probably can't get a copy of it but Brian briefly mentions the story in his preview page.;

And I swear I'm not making this up but Craig Ross details how he somehow found himself deputized to take Bo's last or second-to-last autograph to Warren Buffett, of all people. Craig isn't making this up, either: there are pictures. It's an incredible, preposterous story.

Who I believe graduated from U of M Law School in 1954 or 1952 and formed a law firm (Munger, Tolles & Richardson) in Los Angeles.  He then fortunately met a client, Warren Buffett, and the rest is history.  The practice of law became not as interesting as it once was for Charlie.

Munger has been very very generous regarding U of M Law School, an institution that is constantly and aggressively seeking donations..........every six months.
