Wardrobe Malfunctions: MAIZE Jerseys, Wingless helmets, black jerseys, etc...

Submitted by PeterKlima on

Everyone knows about the wingless helmets, today's CTK video shows MAIZE jerseys, previous videos shows QBs in black jerseys.  (In the past, there was red and green to signify injury and no-contact.)

Personally, I think the presence of these other changes signifies that the great "wingless helmet" issue is WAY overblown.

But, for you fans with nothing to do and who need SOMETHING to discuss the next 19 days until the season starts, chew on these possibilities:

1.  Maybe this is John Falk's way of pushing his recent book.  This brings attention to the equipment manager at UM and, therefore, attention to him and his book.  He is just looking for publicity.

2. Maybe this is RR's way of evaluating players.  He makes under-performing players look ridiculous in wingless helmets and off-color jerseys.  But, if a player is playing well, then he is sharply dressed.  GERG's comments about players "looking beautiful" is just a way to let us know who is well dressed.

3.  Michigan is experimenting with new uniform options.  The "down in front" crowd has been onto this for a while now.  This is just RR's latest attempt to destroy our great heritage.

4.  RR is sitting down editing these clips just to mess with us.  He saw the reaction to wingless helmets, so he said "pull out those eyesore jerseys, that'll get 'em going."  Look out for green pants next.

In the countdown to kickoff video you can see players with Wing-less helmets and red jerseys! I hope they do get Maize jerseys and blue pants someday. Maybe for the night game vs ND next season?

It's bad enough that they've added sutpid maize striping on the white jersey. Let's just let our classic home uniform stay classic.

I only want to see one change, and I only want to see it once: white pants, @PSU, this year. And that too only to make a statement. And maybe get some more money from Adidas.

I am so sick of this speculation already... unless there is new and substantial news from this corner, I don't want to hear it.  As for RR, at least he's not locking Tate in a utility closet.  Time couldnt' pass quick enough...

I think if RR really wants to piss off the "down in front" crown. Have the team wear all blue.  Would look awesome. Toledo does it for their home games.  Than to top it off have the team run through smoke out of the tunnel.

i have a maize Nike #2 jersey and would love to see Michigan have a 3rd Uni.  Maybe for night games only...even if we only wear it once a season or once every 2 years, i would certainly buy one.  Maize with blue pants?  sounds like a winner

Otherwise, Yellow jerseys = Fail.

In general, something tells me that our friends in Columbus are less concerned about the new shade of gray in the game pants supplied as part of OSU's new Nike Pro Combat uniforms, than we are about blue practice helmets.

...that Tate needs to show improvement, or he'll play in one of these:

Who cares what they wear at practice?

I like the wingless helmet. Make the player earn the wings. Personally, I think we shouldn't wear wings on our helmets for practice, so when game day comes, they wear what they earned.

#5 - it means nothing.  Some helmets were repainted, or something, and they didn't have time to put the wings/stripes back on before practice.

(EDIT: evidently it does mean something, per front page article.)

Different helmets are nothing new...  I remember seeing a Michigan Replay highlights video from the 80's with practice footage from a Wisconsin game week.  Scout team players clearly had Wisconsin helmets on.  Some schools are known to clad their scout teams in winged helmets during Michigan week.  Oh, the horror.

Honestly, who cares?  We're talkin' 'bout practice.  Practice.  How silly is that?
