On somewhat related note (basketball related, anyway), any word on whether Izzo plans to suspend Derrick Nix for the opener against Connecticut?

Izzo said Nix will not serve any suspension at the beginning of the season. He also said players voted unanimously for Nix to be captain, which he said is a rarity in his tenure at MSU. Coaches had no say in the vote.

What does that even mean? He might serve a suspension later? How can you not suspend a kid for driving while intoxicated?

Izzo is really tarnishing his rep lately in my opinion. He's the only coach in our conference to have served a suspension, and for a recruiting violation no less, something he saw fit to criticize other programs about over the summer.

After the Wonders Hall Cover-Up, did you really expect a Tom Izzo player to get suspended even one game for a DUI?  On a totally unrelated note, Payne and Appling are being depended upon to provide upperclassman "leadership" along with Nix this season.

You cant argue with his accomplishments but he probably should have taken the pro money and ran a few years back.  With the sleeping giants awakening in Ann Arbor and Bloomington, they'll take a step back and he won't be the beneficiary of (quite as much) media fluffing.

smoking several packs a day then, didn't work out. I also ran the Dublin Marathon for several miles a few years later. . . into a very poor neighborhood. A little kid saw me staggering along and went and got me a glass of water. His dad offered me a fag and that was that.

Fag is British slang for a cigarette. If you read hard enough you might get that from the context also.

I think I can guard him about as well as anyone short of aaron craft but I have been out of eligibility for 4 years and didnt actually attend michigan so i guess its irrelevant. 

As a former basketball walk on myself, I get pretty excited for these kids though.

I tried out my freshman year. None of the guys on the team where there, so don't expect to be guarding Burke. I think they took one guy from the try-out that year, but they had already scouted him.
