Walk Ons and Scholarships

Submitted by blue in dc on
If I am counting correctly, we have 4 unused scholarships (assuming that Ryan Glasgow and Kenny Allen are each getting one). I imagine that means we may here some news that some well deserving walkons may be getting one year scholarships? Any thoughts on who? I"d guess one or both of Bobby Henderson and Michael Hirsch will be seeing meaningful snaps at fullback. At linebacker - Michael Wroblewski. Not sure I have heard of a fourth who would get it based on meaningful snaps this year. In other interesting walkon news, Tru Wilson who I believe was originally listed as an athlete is now listed at safety.

My question is that with hearing on The Insider Morning show that Andrew David wasn't even invited to camp, and they're allowed 105 players in camp, and have 79 under scholarship currently, how many scholarship players are left out of camp this year? Was he the only one?

I'd give Jabrill Peppers TWO scholarships if he promised to simply exhaust his full eligibility in ONE. He can use it for himself, give it away...I don't care. I have 4 years of education free of charge at Michigan for you Pep! All you have to do is play through your RS Senior season.

Deal? DEAL!

I seriously doubt they're gonna hold on to scholarships if they have them. Even if they are not going to contribute meaningfully, those walk ons are integral for the practice squad and probably giving it their all. We are fortunate to have enough scholarship players that we dont need to rely on many walk ons for meaningful time.

I think what's "meaningful" to Harbaugh is a lot more than live game snaps.  Hirsch may never play in a game, but he's a great example of character and courage and I think Harbaugh would love to reward that.  So, that speaks to Hirsch.

I do expect we'll see Henderson play.  Wroblewski and Jocz are "veteran" walk-ons at this point and deserve the recognition just for hanging in there.

Harbaugh makes a point to call out walkons in his press conferences.  I think he loves walkons and means it.
