  • Walton Jr. waits in wings for Michigan

“He passes, he makes other guys better and he can score the ball as well. With that freshman adjustment, it’s all about how quickly you adjust to the speed of the game and the length of the players on the court,” Jordan said. “We know he has good vision and passing ability. Kids come in as freshmen like Trey and they don’t know what to say from a leadership standpoint, so they’re just listening and that’s where the other guys come in and show them the ropes.”

Not much to do over the weekend...and even next week until the first MBB game (other than the Selection Show of course). May as well look at some football!

Few things that pop out at me when reading this depth chart:

1) with that QB depth, I don't think we're going to have a lot of QB runs this year.  Thank God we have amazing tackles because we need to keep Devin clean
2) the defense looks solid.  As long as Countess comes back healthy and somebody steps up as the #2 safety, we're going to be very good on that side of the ball
3) we're going to have an embarrassment of riches at 3 and 5 tech in the next few years
4) the offense is very shaky in spots.  See QB depth above.  Also, we really need one of Funchess/Darboh/Chesson to evolve into a quality option.  There are also a few guys on the O line who seem like HAVE to be good, or else we will have some trouble.  I think Jack Miller HAS to be good.  I think Kyle Kalis HAS to be good.  That's a bit of a scary proposition.

Thanks for posting

I am going to trust Brady Hoke when he says that Bellomy is better than most of us think he is.  A road game against Nebraska where even Denard wasn't doing all that well isn't much of a sample size.

Bellomy will need to see action in the second half against a couple of tomato cans to develop his confidence in case he is needed down the road.

Only a few issues stand out to me:

- Braden is our best bet for a starter at RG.

- Wormley will be a backup, somewhere on the DL, at a minimum

- No way Dymonte Thomas is that low on the saftey depth chart.  Worst case, he gets Jarrod Wilson playing time from last year.

Overall I really appreciate it / good work.

If I remember correctly, Hoke said Norfleet would primarily do kickoffs in 2012 and he wanted someone more seasoned on punt return duty last year, someone more experienced to handle fair catches and judgement calls.

Norfleet should be in the mix to compete for the job now that he has a year of experience underneath him.

I think that it's unlikely that Deveon Smith redshirts.  There's not a single decent running back in the past 20 years who has redshirted.  There's just not much of a point to it.

Is Samuelson really slated to play tackle?  I figured he is headed for guard.

I expect Dymonte Thomas's redshirt to get burned, and Taco Charlton's too.  We need a TFL machine at his position.  I see the competition for that job being wide open.

Still lots of shaky positions.  We're not fully rebuilt yet.  Center is paper thin, and the starter isn't proven.  WR talent is still pretty "bleh".

Justice Hayes redshirted. Giovanni Bernard redshirted. Kenjon Barner redshirted. Jonathan Franklin redshirted.

Good RBs redshirt all the time.

Thank you, Coach Hoke, for bringing Michigan back.

I don't see Dymonte redshirting. Don't think he'll start at any point next year, but he should get a lot of time. I just think he's too talented to not see the field. And if you made me guess, Deveon want redshirt, either. Good RB's usually aren't likely candidates for redshirts.

I thought hoke said Thomas Gordon and Courtney Avery would likely be the starting safeties. We have a plethora of nickel corners, and are in want of an experienced free safety next year, so Avery seems like a better choice than Wilson for now.

After the last 5 years of transfers, no shows, unqualifiers, busts, & endless brutal injuries; any situation that doesn't involve reanimating corpses to serve in the defensive backfeild is a plus.

How any Michigan fan can open their mouth to complain about the cornucopia of riches that is our two or (holding my breath) three deep is beyond me.

Never Forget.

2014 is the year I dare myself to cast an analytical eye on our secondary, and thats only after sacrificing a random MGoBlog poster on the 50 yard line.

It's Miller time... and Bellomy's most important year of his career.  Even if Russell doens't show a 20 yard out ball - just to competently be the #2 woud help this team immeasurably.  It's now or never for these guys.  Fall is big for Bryant as well if not spring.  Moar spring ball please.

I think every year we predict half of the freshmen class will redshirt, and it never happens. A lot of those guys will burn redshirts on special teams. Keep that in mind.
