W Soccer knocks off #19 Rutgers in 2OT
It was a soaking wet, muddy field tonight in a battle of teams with great goalies.
Michigan scored a HUGE win tonight over #19 Rutgers.
This is the one sport Rutgers is actually good at. They went to the final four last year and you may have heard of Carli Lloyd of the USWNT. They sit inside the top-15 in RPI.
Anyways, Michigan opened the game with a score from Nicky Waldeck about 10 minutes in. It wouldn't be her last.
Rutgers would score the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead with about 15 minutes to play. Waldeck would score again late in the 2nd half to tie the game, and it was all Michigan from that point forward.
Rutgers at one point had a 21-7 shot advantage. Goalie Sarah Jackson played an outstanding game, so much so that she had to change her jersey at halftime since it was so muddy from diving everywhere. She had over 5 saves tonight, many of them amazing catches above her head.
Michigan scored the game-winner 3 minutes into the 2nd OT. It was scored by, guess who? Nicky Waldeck with the hat trick to give Michigan the 3-2 win in 2OT.
The all-time series is now deadlocked at 1-1-1.
Michigan is now 8-1-1 and 4-0-0 in the B1G, moving themselves into first place with 12 points.
We'll play Maryland on Sunday at 3pm.

This women's soccer team has a chance for a really special season. Coach Ryan has been building up our program for a long time, and he has brought in some great players. Reilly Martin stands out to me especially with her phenomenal dribbling & distribution, but there are talented players all over the roster. Very excited to see where things go from here.

No respect for the dead. I hope no one goes to jail for that. Craig James got away with it five times. Allegedly.
