W Soccer ends amazing season (18-4-1) in Elite 8

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Michigan women's soccer's season ended tonight in a 2-1 loss at the #1 team in the country, Virginia.

Michigan had an amazing year, only giving up more than one goal in a game once (tonight). The only thing that kept Michigan from winning the B1G Championship was a pesky scoreless tie against wisconsin.

Another NCAA Quarterfinals year will be added to the rim around U-M Soccer Stadium.

Fantastic season ladies!

The summary of their accomplishments is nice:

"The Wolverines close out the season having set or tied multiple program bests, including highest finish in both the Big Ten Conference (second) and in the NCAA Tournament (Elite Eight), while tying the single-season record for wins (18). Led by seven seniors, U-M won 34 matches over the last two seasons, the most in a two-year stretch in program history."

Congratulations to the team and Go Blue!

A great season indeed!  A special shout-out I think needs to go to Nkem Ezurike, whose brilliant career up front for Michigan came to an end.  Ezurike is arguably the greatest player, and certainly the greatest forward, in Michigan women's soccer history, holding the career records for both goals and points.  Looking at her play, she towered over many defenders & had the ability to power through as well as finish with clinical finesse.  A great Wolverine and one whose legacy should never be forgotten.
