W Lacrosse wins 3rd straight in 22-8 thrashing

After a rough-but-expected start to the season being shut out 21-0 by #4 Florida on the road and dropping a heartbreaker in OT to Winthrop, the Michigan Women Laxers have battled for back for 3 wins to set a program record for a winning streak.

After winning a 16-14 thriller in Berkeley on Tuesday night, Michigan, in their second year as a Varsity sport, traveled to the Bay Area to take on the Saint Mary's Gaels who aren't very good. At all.

What Michigan did in this game definitely had to boost their confidence. They set records all over the place in this one.

Anna Schueler's sole possession of the Michigan single game goal record lasted all of three days. Incredibly, freshman Mae Tarr came off the bench and tied Schueler's record with 5 goals of her own. Tarr was talked about by coach U on WTKA as a freshman who could contribute this season.

Four Wolverines tallied a hat trick in this one. Tarr with 5 goals, Tess Korten with 4, Jess Angerman and Sophie duPhily with 3.

Michigan's 22 goal offensive burst is a program record for goals scored in a game. The previous record was 19 against Fresno State last season.

Michigan really clamped down on defense in the second half. The Gaels only scored 2 goals in the second half and totaled FIVE shots.

Michigan is now a perfect 5-0 against the MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation).

The Wolverines return home from their spring break outing in California on Wednesday night to open Michigan Stadium up against Virginia Tech at 7pm. Game will broadcast live on BTN+.

The headline on MGoBlue.com tonight said that Men's Lacrosse had beaten Penn State, Temple and the Puerto Rican National Team.  It was actually Men's Gymnastics that won the Puerto Rican invitational tourney.  Fortunately softball's victory moved that story out of the top spot so that somebody noticed and corrected it.

Highlights of the actual gymnastics competition included Michigan beating #2 Penn State, which had beaten Michigan in an earlier meet, and Michigan's own Puerto Rican gymnast, Tristian Perez-Rivera, competing in his first all-around in front of his home crowd, and impressing the coach of their national team to solidify his chance to compete for his country.

Maybe not against the best competition, but it's great to see the offensive explosion.

Who will finish with the better record this season - the men's team or the women's?
