W Lacrosse beats California in 16-14 shootout

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Didn't get a chance to post this since I went to bed after that debacle of Basketball game last night, but there was a bright spot on the day in Michigan Athletics besides Baseball beating Stetson.

Women's Lacrosse went on the road with a 1-2 record coming off of their first win of the season, an 18-6 blowout win against St. Bonaventure at Oosterbaan.

The Wolverines traveled to California Memorial Stadium to take on the 1-1 Cal Bears in a rematch of their classic 13-12  2OT game from last year that Michigan won.

This year was no different--in result and game pace.

Amazing stats, really. Michigan took 22 shots in the game: they scored on 16 of them for a .727 shot percentage.

The best stat of the game: Michigan had three players with hat tricks. Anna Scheuler set the new program record for goals scored in a game with 5 goals, Kim Coughlan had 4 goals and Jess Angerman had 3.

Michigan is now 4-0 against MPSF teams.

Judging by the way that we were outshot, Cal only going 2-11 on free positions and us taking 48 penalites (!) I am surprised we won.  Looks like we played really smart on offense, and good for the team to take a road win.  Tough to get those wins on the west coast.
