Well, it's still better than getting beat straight-up for a TD.

What bothered me was how they picked up the first down on the running play before that.  Our defenders met the ballcarrier a good three yards in front of the first-down line and we didn't wrap him up.  If we had, the clock would have continued to run and IU probably wouldn't have had enough time to run a play AND kick a FG.

Just because you don't play prevent doesn't mean you give up a TD.

AND

...just because you PLAY prevent doesn't mean you WON'T give up a TD (see last weekend).

Put Funchess on the goal line and play a soft coverage with the other 7 guys (rush 3). There's a middle ground between "normal" base defense and all out prevent.

You don't have to give them 3 because the alternative is 7.

Let's hope we stay aggressive because I have thought Al has mixed it up well. Really only a couple calls early on that were odd but for the most part it's been very solid.

Second half I want to see more of the same. If we become a successful hybrid we become harder to stop!!

Halftime box score. Note the average yards per play here - 5.73 yarda allowed per play would be above our average, but we're not allowed them to run the amount of plays that they would like. Not a bad achievement there.

Oh well, IU has a good offense so it's good we just held them to a field goal. But on the plus side, the offense looks to really be humming.

Just keep doing what we're doing and we'll be fine. Also, OSU losing at home to Iowa at the half. Hopefully this'll shut up all the nutcases talking about them winning a national championship.

IU has proved they can score quickly.

This first drive is going to be huge. We need to keep controlling the ball.

Just worry about first downs, eventually it'll turn into 6.

Speaking as one the more virulent anti-Al posters around here I will give credit where credit is due.  Not only did than half not suck it was actually pretty darn good.  I like how he mixed up formations, play calls and players.

The thing that pisses me off more than anything is that i KNOW he can do this.....I just dont understand why he doesnt more often.  For some reason road games are his achiles heel and his play calling away from Michigan stadium is radically different (or so it seems) then when he's at home.

Shotgun. Funchess will have a big half now that gallon had a big one. Defense needs to get better, can we get a little tighter in those receivers please

Will we try to get Funchess more involved this half?  He has only one catch.  IU is probably going to start shading a safety over to Gallon's side, leaving Funchess in more single coverages.

Just hope they stay aggressive.  No need to fear Indy's D.  Can't assume we'll shut them down, either.  Gotta keep the pressure on 'em.

Secondary, and defense in general has to be better. Make field goals gibbons. Run forward norfleet :)
