WTF happened to FGs?
Vs. Indiana open thread
Special teams just continues to deliver
Welp. Gibbons is entering bad Gibbons mode.
Gallon was in single-coverage at the top. Gardner's got to give him a quick toss there.
Here we go with this shit again
That was a bullshit flag. Perfectly legal what Gardner did.
Didn't get the pass to the line of scrimmage so it was the correct call.
Oh right.... I forgot he ran 15 yards backwards first.
Doesn't it have to get passed the line of scrimmage?
It was the right call. I don't know why it was so late but it was correct. He threw it to no one and it didn't reach the line of scrimmage.
It was the right call unfortunately.
If your going to bitch
What the f special teams
Gibbons is terrible.
It's cool that this is only the 2nd Michigan game you've ever watched but prior to that he had tied the all-time record for most consecutive kicks made at Michigan
so you are wrong
Is he kicking too low or are they not blocking well enough on field goals?
Little of both. I thought the kick should have been higher
Uhhhh why can't we do field goal kicking anymore. I thought we had made a lot in a row at some point. Now 0 for the last 4, right?
No, it's like 2 for the last 6.
So you're saying it's on Borgess?
What the hell is going on with our fg unit? Is Gibbons lime driving it too much or have we forgotten how to block. In either case, Gibbons belongs nowhere near the Groza anymore.
Remember when kicking field goals was automatic?
Pepperidge Farms remembers.
Gibbons we got your back. Relax and think of what got you here...they're still there you just have to find them.
Has to scramble sooner, that's on him. Why do all of gibbons kicks start do damn low? Get it up!
They got push. Don't think that's on Gibbons. It happens. We are up 7. Plenty of time to complain if we start getting too predictable/stubborn/not creating push etc.
Edit: guess I was wrong. Play through it Gibbons you can do it.
the kick is in slow mode, snap, step, kick. Quickly please so they can't knife thru our Swiss cheese o-line and get their hands up.
empty possessions against this offense
Kickers seem to go from "I cant miss" to "I cant make it to save my life" pretty fast. Not sure what the issue is but i'd think strongly about having Wilie try the next one. Gibbons confidence looks pretty shaky right now.
Epically regressing to the mean.
Let's find whereever Rivas is hanging out these days, glue a scruffy beard to his face and give him Gibbons' jersey. No one would know the difference...(except for those suspicious why FGs are starting to get made again)
Kick it higher man!!!!
This one is for the running count, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck fuck fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, and shit.
LSA, that is 27 fucks and 1 shit.
Fuckin A right.
Welp, that was all on Gibbons.
Zing pow ding
These kicks all look too low and he stubbed his toe in the PSU game. Who does that?
Gibbons is known for kicking the ball low occationally.
That's one way to make up for a missed FG.....
Oh hello pressure on the QB.
I'm noticing a lot of true freshman playing. I hate to burn Bosch's RS. Maybe Gedeon is already playing special teams, but he's on the field too. I know Stribling is already playing which is good because he has height and has looked great in practice clips that I have seen. But, man I hate to burn Bosch's RS.
Gedeon has been out there on defense in previous games. His redshirt is long gone
Throw the ball away!
Welp, Shane Morris
Jesus Christ Devin just throw the ball away. He's got to stop trying to be the hero
In his defense he kind of has had to be the hero.
DG , chill man
Throw the fucking ball away. This is getting ridiculous.
Come on Devin, just get rid of the ball. 1st and 10 doesn't require a superhuman effort.
comfortable when I see that confused look in our QB's eyes
If only Mattison coached this aggressive last week
Try's to do to much.
Phew... lotsa bad decisions.
Come on man.
The damn ball devin, quit scrambling sideways and backwards, damn learn from your mistakes, mental mistakes
Nice call, Borges.
We cannot just line up and ball. We need Peppers so bad.......
Wrong game. The offense has put up quite a bit of offense. Should have 17 points and threatening for more right now. Pretty good to me.
That may be one of the best calls I've seen by Borges all year.
Nice to see Green falling forward.
I've never seen a throwback not work. Moar!!!
With a hold
I'd agree. Devin needs to tuck and run or throw it away sooner. Hanging out in the pocket too long is going to result in a turnover sooner rather than later
How does Borges get blamed for our offense? You never know what Gardener you are going to get on any given play.
And Touisant cut back way too much..
Iowa up on Ohio in the second quarter, 17-10. Sorry, but I think Ohio's being exposed. They are not the team everyone thinks they are.
Don't think it's OT but very early in that game still.
It's OT topics that people get all worked up about.
And I don't want Ohio to be exposed now. I want them to be undefeated, come to Ann Arbor, and lose
DQ 5 buck lunch.... Be right back
Coming right at you
A well-executed tailback screen may be my favorite play of all. The D thinks it's getting a monster sack and then - whoops - there's the TB running behind a convoy.
I'm stuck in a buckeye bar. Anyone know where I can listen to Beckmann on my phone? I heart radio and wtka app just play commercials. Tia
Wtka sport talk 1050 , app in the App Store
Or not, I guess they don't play the live games on there. My bad
Why you so slowed down ?
Nice move, Gallon!
Ever put receivers in motion?
Gallon reminds me of a miny Anquan Boldin. Like a little pinball out there.
A beautiful mistake?
Holding on Williams.... but I'll take it!
Jeez he actually did the right thing breaking it out
Good for Fitz. He deserves that after all the "help" he's gotten from his O-Line.
Hold by Williams. Least refs missed it
I saw that too. But the refs missed far more blatant holding on the ensuing return. Miller's was very minimal.
Looks like we got "good Borges" this game. I'll take it.
Well Notre Dame never holds so whatever don't care. Punt coverage le sigh.
Excellent coverage as usual.
Coverage . . . come on guys.
Another special teams win.... man, how does he fumble and go for 40
He was past line of sxrimmage
Don't let them back up off the mat!
Big fat holding call missed. IU blocker literally just holding our man down and pushing him into the ground.
Eh, Miller's was borderline. That was blatant.
Great, a bobbled return that should have only gone to the 10 goes to the 43. Wonderful.
Gotta be shittin me.
Jesus.... a pick six converted into a TD.... that's amazing
Only to us
& damn. Let them Right back in it
It went from 28-7 game almost over to 21-14. Good god
Should've had a pick 6 - instead, we give up 6. Are you kidding me???
Sorry, good play by both teams. Advantage IU. IU touchdown. I see the problem with the scoreboard, but good play by Taylor. Not sure why you're wigging out.
We are really unlucky on these near-interceptions. How do we keep missing the ball?
Sigh. Why couldn't Raymon have just picked that ball off?
14 point swing
Our DBs need to learn how to make plays.
Dang it, that ball was in Taylors hands, he's got to at least not let the receiver get it.
Wilson, where are you? How did Taylor not pick that?
Does that not ALWAYS happen in football? One play earlier you've got a pick 6 in your hands and you manage to hand the ball to the other team and the next it's TD going against you.
I'm convinced the Gods of football allocate a certain number of chances to stop the other team. Spit on their gifts (as we just did) and they smite you with their might hands.
These are some Denard throws. It can't be sustainable. Right? Guys... right?
How much bad luck have we had on almost picks this year? I feel like at Penn State they had 3 straight throws at the end that we could've legitimately picked off to seal the game.
Only to us could this happen.....
Holy hell. worst return ever.
What. The. Fuck.
Isn't having a good day...
Norfleet caught Gardner disease. You can't keep doubling back like that, guys
Benched. That is fucking bush league bullshit.
Somebody's been hanging out with DG
Dennis has the 'bigplayitis' nice coverage by IU...
Can we get our guys to stop playing hero ball? That was terrible.
This team is cursed!
That sort of thing sometimes goes TD. For us, it goes to shitty field position
That was a great return
Run forward! Are you fucking kidding me?
Political correctness be damned - our special teams are retarded.
Add another one that needs to get axed after this season.
Gotta get out of here
IU LB handled our O-Lineman with a body slam that sent him reeling. Not pretty.
IU LB handled our O-Lineman with a body slam that sent him reeling. Not pretty.
Benny hill nooooooooooooo
Green is a pig. I like that.
Last year when Gardner used to be able to get guys to jump offsides?
Green gets yards because he moves forwards, unlike Fitz.
But don't jump man. Your bigger momentum: use it! Drive through man. Don't jump!
not sure the little hop was needed, but I'll take the 1st down.
Because each week we have a different identity. Thank Borges.
Gallon, you gotta have that!
I have no doubts that I will die watching a Michigan game in my living room. I might as well turn a coffin into a couch and save my loved ones some time and energy.
Maybe we can get a bulk discount
just as long as that doesn't happen too much...
bigger than just the new set of downs. IU is going to have their hands full if they can't handle our running game.
Now Gallon with a huge drop, Jesus
Gallon drops the easiest throw all day.
Gardner looks good thus far. Gallon has actually let him down twice.
has had since the ND game, maybe even better.
looks awesome when in the shotgun. Making good throws on this drive.
IU knew our play there.
You think it had something to do with us being in I formation?
Manball check...still doesn't work.
Green looking like a character from Scooby-Doo. Never seen a running back start get their feet going before he starts moving.
Excellent cut up field when he just needed that extra yard
Nice delay. Borges is actually mixing it up a bit for once.
a shotgun/spread. Do not forget.
Bout damn time. He and Hoke need to realize that their personnel does not suit manball.
Devin could tuck and run up the middle so much more often than he actually does
Give IU a second to drive before half
Not liking the clock milking from 50 yards out. They look to be leaving too little time to get near the end zone.
So you want the quick-strike IU offense to have a better shot at the endzone before the game ends?
Sorry, but I think you're very wrong.
Disagree thought they did that drive quite well.
You don't want to give IU offense much time to operate. Not saying that just because they scored I thought that was really good.
Liking a lot of things in this game so far. Nice adjustments. Say what you want but there is definite improvement in play calling and execution. Still mistakes and need Gibbons to see the ball go through the uprights for confidence but really encouraged.
My concern was from when they were at the 50 with 1:30 to go. With all the struggles to get to the line with more than 10 seconds it felt like one mistake and they would blow a chance to score. Then they picked up the pace well, a bit too well.
That lass did not scare me
Why would she scare you?
Has Jackson ever gotten this many targets before?
Yes Devin, MOAR throwaways.
Any chance that anyone is keeping track of Pass/Run play calling on first down?
No idea but it is way less predictable this game than PSU.
That almost looked too easy. Devin was staring it down the whole way and Gallon was still somehow open by 5 yards
A lot of time for IU now..
Unstoppable Catch God
OSU down 7 @ half.
Beautiful. More shotgun formations the rest of the season please.
Indy's defense = Still not good, not good at all
That said, I wonder if we don't beat Penn State running this type of offense
Have to wonder? Penn state is terrible
Some of those tackles & some of those picks the way they played. Indy D another level of not good
should've beat them even considering we had 27 yds on 27 attempts if we had only made a 33 yd FG (or any other number of things). Definitely would've won
Has to get stop or we gain no advantage
Magnuson is killing it.
Bosch is doing pretty well also.
Eh. IU defense not that good.
Beautiful drive - everything was clicking.
Gallon now has 170 yards. The school record for one game is 246 (Roundtree in '10 Illinois).
like he's been there before!
And a lot of guys do that these days.
With the NFL taking dancing out and CFB having its rules. It's not really "cool" to do anything else. Some guys drop the ball, but you see plenty of guys hand the ball to the ref after first downs and touchdowns.
Love the choice to kick it on the ground. Good call.
Mix up the calls, make Gallon the focus of the offense and we do good. Sounds pretty straight forward to me.
Good job Coach Borgess, hopefully these adjustments are here to stay...
is schedule Indy's D here on out
Yeah, we're dropping at least 50 today. No wonder cork cook looked like Johnny football last week.
Good job? Half the board was calling for these adjustments weeks ago.
Caveat: Indiana's defense is bad. However, unlike the tackle over I predict these changes, if kept, are sustainable. There are definitely things to improve but if the offense keeps going for the jugular while making some strides in Manball I'm a happy man. Also the iPhone just autocorrected to Manball; happy days yeah.
No score in less than :30 this time!
So lucky no 15yd penalty = field goal range there!
If you need it
How did we let them move the pile 3-4 yards? The half is over if that doesn't happen.
They still had all 3 timeouts iirc. Half wouldnt have been over. If anything, moving the pile took off a few precious seconds
For a change?
Great call on the squib
IU kicker better than ours? That hurts.
Whatever. Ill take it.
This one isn't over by a long shot, I think both teams are pumped up to begin the second half.
Mattison is getting soft in his old age. It kills me watching how loose we play in late situations. Be the aggressor.
One thing that Mattison really fails at is defending the two-minute offense. Doesn't seem to realize that you still need pressure against shaky QBs.
Of course squib kicking to give Indy a short field doesn't help.
You can't play prevent with 8 seconds left and a 10 yard out away from a FG.
Well, it's still better than getting beat straight-up for a TD.
What bothered me was how they picked up the first down on the running play before that. Our defenders met the ballcarrier a good three yards in front of the first-down line and we didn't wrap him up. If we had, the clock would have continued to run and IU probably wouldn't have had enough time to run a play AND kick a FG.
Just because you don't play prevent doesn't mean you give up a TD.
...just because you PLAY prevent doesn't mean you WON'T give up a TD (see last weekend).
Put Funchess on the goal line and play a soft coverage with the other 7 guys (rush 3). There's a middle ground between "normal" base defense and all out prevent.
You don't have to give them 3 because the alternative is 7.
You can play soft, and not be in a full prevent.
Put Funchess on the goal line and play a soft defense with the other 10. Rush 3.
Bosch is playing well. I like it!
Iowa has already racked up 17 first downs on the Ohio D in one half. Dang.
Halftime box score. Note the average yards per play here - 5.73 yarda allowed per play would be above our average, but we're not allowed them to run the amount of plays that they would like. Not a bad achievement there.
3rd down efficiency
|2 for 6||4 for 7|
4th down efficiency
|0-0||1 for 1|
|9 of 15||12 of 18|
Yards per pass
Yards per rush
|Avg. Yards Per Play||5.63||7.73|
Check 1 2 check check.
Looks like the internet is working.
Oh well, IU has a good offense so it's good we just held them to a field goal. But on the plus side, the offense looks to really be humming.
Just keep doing what we're doing and we'll be fine. Also, OSU losing at home to Iowa at the half. Hopefully this'll shut up all the nutcases talking about them winning a national championship.
start sharpening the knives for Mattison?
Are you out of your mind?
IU has proved they can score quickly.
This first drive is going to be huge. We need to keep controlling the ball.
Just worry about first downs, eventually it'll turn into 6.
More passes to the flats and screens please
Speaking as one the more virulent anti-Al posters around here I will give credit where credit is due. Not only did than half not suck it was actually pretty darn good. I like how he mixed up formations, play calls and players.
The thing that pisses me off more than anything is that i KNOW he can do this.....I just dont understand why he doesnt more often. For some reason road games are his achiles heel and his play calling away from Michigan stadium is radically different (or so it seems) then when he's at home.
I couldn't agree more. It's a head scratcher.
Shotgun. Funchess will have a big half now that gallon had a big one. Defense needs to get better, can we get a little tighter in those receivers please
Will we try to get Funchess more involved this half? He has only one catch. IU is probably going to start shading a safety over to Gallon's side, leaving Funchess in more single coverages.
Just hope they stay aggressive. No need to fear Indy's D. Can't assume we'll shut them down, either. Gotta keep the pressure on 'em.
Great post. Gotta stay aggressive. Defense needs some stops
I can't believe they burned Bosch's RS- that line has completely regressed since the ND game. the coaches are clearly desperate
If he can contribute now, why play for tomorrow, oline has struggled, need somebody to step up. Now if you wanna talk about burning redshirts, start with Morris.
I don't even care, I'm happy.
It's time for a mood check!
They burned it, he's playing pretty good makes u wonder why not play him earlier or is this just cause it's Indiana
which is a bummer. Need more TVs
Janson gets to the point doesn't he?
Look at the douche flipping off the camera. So edgy.
Secondary, and defense in general has to be better. Make field goals gibbons. Run forward norfleet :)
Bosch is good
Well thats a bad start to the half
This team cannot get out of its own way
Well, that's just a wonderful start to the half.
We're handing out points again. Frustrating
way to come out swinging offense
I needed a reason to start drinking.
It's cool frank, you got a little Tom in ya
DONT EVAR GET IN I FORM AGAIN
So frustrating. We kill ourselves over and over again.
Lol, that pitch play wont be run again this season
Until it is in the next quarter. Borges'd
Having Gardner pitch with his left hand is not the smartest of ideas IMO.
Why pitch? Why??????
I hate football. We just gave this trash Indiana team a free TD. 2nd easy TD of the game for them
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, shit.
We seem to give up a lot of TDs on 3rd and goal. We're always one play away from holding the other team to a FG attempt and can't get the stop.
Of we didnt make it hard I guess it wouldn't feel right...
Gardner. It was a good pitch, Fitz simply dropped it.
It wasn't a perfect pitch. Both guys should/could have done a little better. It still should have been handled as it wasn't awful
I thought that was more on Fitz. The pitch hit him in the chest.
He put some weird spin on it for no reason
That wasn't his fault. Fitz should have made the play.
inferior team hang around. Great teams do not do this week to week.
Good teams do not do this week to week!
You think that Michigan is a great team?
This team, as a whole, is just not very good.
Unfortunately, this is true.
If history is any indicator we're now destined to win this game in 4 OT's. We got the same break on their first possession last week at Penn State and see how much good it did us.
Got this one in the bag now.
When's the last time you've heard,"and that's a big play for this Michigan defense!"
Akron game. Right at the end tho.....
How about first drive after halftime last week.
Probably Raymon's +4 INT last week or the big stop on 4th and short last week?
We will still win this game by 15+
That's the spirit
C'mon Fitz... need to get the first down there dude.
