We're down 45-55. Get to work.
well that's just, like, your opinion, man
We're down 45-55. Get to work.
So obvious some sort of hack is going on. Our poll has over one million votes it looks like the other has.... 85,000. I think more than 8.5% of people would vote in both
okay can we boot this guy already?!?!?!? Mods please??!!?!?! time for him to go away permanently
This chain of comments is so delightfully nonsensical now that Mr. Ether Stench is six feet under.
Maybe Nebraska hired ACORN to give them a hand.
Holy hell. Is there really 1.4 million votes in that poll? That's a lot of bots... Good to see our EECS people are making this competitive again though!
There are so many votes in at this point that having people go and vote will do nothing. The only hope of winning is by scripting bots and at that point what does it even matter.
They have a 145,000 vote lead over us and the gains made today have levelled out to a consistant pace of voting keeping their lead at 10%. Given ESPNs history of not caring if 17 billion people vote on a helmet poll I don't think they'll be investigating the source of Nebraskas votes.
I heard he is what got us from 35-65% to where we are now...roughly 45-55%
As soon as we bring it close NU will bot their way to a bigger lead. Not only do we need to bot to make up the hundreds of thousands, we then need to bot more to beat their additional bot.
is in order to beat the hell out of them we need to "bot" the hell out of them?
All horseshoes must die.
how do i make a bot??
This is no longer a battle of who has a better tradition, but who has a better EECS department.
This failure is unnacceptable. How can Nebraska out Bot us? U of M cpu nerds please fix this.
For a little bit (I'm using quotes because I'm still guessing we had a few bots going from the start). But they took a huge (about 100,000-200,000 votes) lead over us using bots (either that or people in Nebraska might have nothing better to do, which IMHO is a reasonable explanation), and we've been clawing our way back in the last day.
Better ask Little Bill:
I hate Nebraska fans, not to put them all down but they always bring up '97 and the Heisman and they just seem really cocky. When we went to the Alamo Bowl a couple years ago, my family moved because there were a group of Huskers behind us twho were just completely obnoxious and I just never have met a Nebraska fan I liked. Maybe it's just me...
A Texas fan tried convincing me that Nebraska fans are WORSE than Buckeye fans. He has lived in both Texas and Ohio and said Nebraska fans are worse in his unbias opinion. He said he thanked the Big Ten for taking the "Big 12's trash off their hands for them".
I don't have a beef with Nebraska fans, but I still have always hated "Big Red." I have two issues with Nebraska:
1) They built their rep as a national power while in the Big 8 which consisted of Nebraska, Oklahoma and 6 "other" teams. It's pretty easy to pile up double digit winning seasons when you only play 2 or 3 good teams each year.
2) Dr. Tom Osborne is a Tressel-esque phony. His teams were rampant abusers of steroids and other PED's during his tenure not to mention the MSU-like rap sheet many of his later teams racked up, yet he is treated like one of the courtly, old-school gentlemen of CFB. He isn't fit to hold Lloyd Carr's jock strap when it comes to class.
I've met Tom O, not around a football field though. My great uncle worked with hiim while they both ran the pshycology dept. at UNL. He's a great person, on the field idk, but off the field he is one of the best.
To think I was voting mutliple times. I thought I was so sneaky. Haha, look at me vote 10 times in a row. Michigan will for sure win this. Nebraska won't know what hit them.... :(
I voted a bunch of times with private browsing but the number of votes is stuck at 1,453,906, 54-46 bad guys.
It is not a live update. It updates the total votes every couple minutes so your multiple votes will count.
It's up to 1,457,601 now.
Edit: Cripes, it's gone up to 1,465,168 since my last comment. The |-,@><()rzzz on both sides must really be doing their thing if the totals are still at 46-54.
At this rate, the vote total will match the entire population of the state of Nebraska (1.8 million). But I'm glad to see we're clawing back against them. I'd like to think our top-10 engineering program can match nebraska's engineering school. Go Blue!
I can definitively say that I am responsible for us catching up in the poll. I graduate from UM in 2010 and now am at Caltech. My roommate and I created the automated voting script. We started at midnight last night and we should overtake Nebraska by the morning. If anyone else wants it I can email it to you. The more computers we can run it on the better. You'll need Ubuntu.
Hats off to you sir. I would totally like to help in the botting effort, but I'm without Ubuntu.
if you want to get ubuntu you can download and install it as a second operating system. Google Ubuntu for windows. The first link should be ubuntu and then you can download it. However, to manipulate Ubuntu once you download will take a bit of computer skill if you're used to windows.
Id love to help if you want to email me the script [email protected]
Do you have ubuntu?
I did, but the Doc gave me a shot of penicillin and cleared it right up.
I wish you'd give me the name of your doctor, a summer cold is the worst!
I r has it, and I r should be doing better things than sitting on my computer all day... things like playing the NCAA 2012 demo while letting my computer bot.
Alright, here's the deal. I'll send the script around in the morning if we haven't taken the lead. I'm nervous about spreading it around.
I'd like a copy of that script, sure. ;)
It is morning and we've fallen further behind!
Sorry, don't have Ubuntu (not even sure what it is).
It's a linux distro, for the computer geek who is not quite ready to be a real computer geek.
I have 2 linux boxes, but Im guessing that I won't be seeing a copy of that script though. Too bad.
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto.
Since Nebraska's bots are frantically trying to catch up today - and our lead is down to 59-41 with only a couple hours left - would you mind putting your script to work again?
Thx & Go Blue!
Good Job!! GO BLUEEE!
Pointless?! The winning school's campus gets a ton of free copies of NCAA '12.
Looks like we are catching up, err botting more than them. Either way we're making a comeback.
Now I don't get it, should i keep voting 45x per hour or i'm just out of the league now?
Back down to 45-55 with over 1.7 million votes cast.
It hit the 2 million mark @ 7 am. It is now 8 am and there is another 100,000 votes. The machines have taken over. Where is Will Smith when you need him?
This is like the Illinois game all over again!
I would posbang you, but I can't, so I'll just say it.
Sportsnation voting for best tradition became self aware.
But look what they've done:
I am as mad as Jackie Chiles here. The fact that Michigan's famed banner tap is losing to Nebraska is egregious.
I mean, everyone, even if they aren't Michigan fan, knows the banner tap. What is the Nebraska walk?
Holy shit....and to think I was taking a moral stand on the ethics of voting Kovacs the best safety in the land.
I now see the folly in my ways.
And you convinced me to stop voting for Kovacs!
Where is that Kovacs link, anyway?
But I think we're on the same page on this one. Holy hell is this ridiculous.
In fairness, I think Nebraska started it.
Can you forgive me.......
we're still losing by 14%!
HAL: I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.
It was here: http://www.philsteele.com/
They just changed the poll to the best kicker, and Phil Steele wisely chose not to put a Michigan player in.
Also, let's help pos-bang the kicker from Fresno State with no votes to help beat ND.
Consider it done (although after I voted Kevin (I can't pronounce the last name) still only had one vote).
so did kovacs win?
the ND, FSU poll is only at 131,787 votes..
Lastpoll FSU was in they were losing the helmet poll and hacked the system at the last minute with a buttload of votes. Maybe they only pull out the bazookas when needed as well.
from 14% down to 6% -- gaining ground!!
I hope that Toyota isn't paying for their banner ad by the paigeview! That'll get a little expensive.
It's 47-53 now. Given enough time and a few more installments of "my bot's bigger than your bot," Michigan can pull this one out.
It's scary what some people can do with a bunch of 1s and 0s.
Wow Michigan bots are really packing some heat! We're back to within about 300,000 votes even though we were down by quite a bit 12 hours ago. Does anybody know when voting closes? Monday night I assume?
Tuesday at noon I believe so we will need to keep the bots roaring
Over 3 million, and we're within 1%. Damn our guys know how to code.
dont mean to hijack the thread, but this one seemed to fizzle a long time ago...
anyone know the difference between outdoor club seats and suites seats?
i have tickets to every game this year except minnesota and WMU. i have an opportunity to buy suite or outdoor club tickets for either (single) game...the price is pretty cheap too.
I was thinking that this may be a fun alternative to see a game...any help would be appriciated.
I knew Michigan fans and students were too proud to let those Corn Huskers take this one. Keep it up guys, let's show those Huskers they're no match!!!
50 - 50
Don't forget that NU always comes on strong overnight so no lead is safe
we take the lead!! 51-49 good guys with a 100k vote surge in the past 3 minutes.
the stock market climbs to new heights, as the whole world is adversely going broke.
Nebraska obviously started the bot competition, but we will be the ones to end it. Go Blue!
A whopping 3.4 million votes and we have now take a 3% lead. 53 - 47
This. Is. Hilarious. Well done EECS!!!
I am laughin soooo hard now. Nebraska, this is why you don't get into an Internet battle with the U of M
Impressive, how many you got running?
I turned mine off, you'll see the husker votes stop, I'm not about to distribute it. Nobody'd know what to do with it. Nor am I going to spend the 4th weekend messing with this.
Edit: wow nice (half assed) slashdot moderation system you got here... trolling? Um no, I was paying the UM guy who wrote the bot a compliment and telling him I was bowing out of the competition we had been having.
Get a real forum.
Thanks for playing. Have a nice day.
58-42 Michigan, 3.96 million votes cast. Yay!
when I saw Transformers 3... Any hot girls here?
our bots are superior!
61-39, good guys. 4.26 MILLION votes (something like 2.5 million of which are from today alone).
Tremble before the nerd power of EECS...
EDIT: In the last half-hour, more
bots "people" have voted than have voted in the other semifinal matchup all week.
...this makes me so happy haha.
63-37... That's so metal.
ND now using bots as well.
no, they aren't, I sent mine after that poll for 15 minutes because of all the fsu nerds claiming they were winning legit... I had seen them use a bot earlier in the week a few times when I was testing some things and pointing it at a poll that didn't already have a few 100,000 votes. I knew they'd go ahead and use it to make up the votes. It took them an hour, but they did, they are going to just get decimated in the finals.
look its someone not michigan posting on your boards, better downvote me quick!
Gotta agree with BD here husker. In November, you could probably post a game preview (assuming you have a reputation for being intelligent and reasonable) predicting Nebraska to win big, and as long as you explained all of your reasoning behind it your OP would be plussed more than it was negged. You might get ridiculed afterwards BKFinest style if we win, but that's another topic entirely.
At peace with the world. I'm envious.
We don't downvote visitors on spec. This board is frequented by a few Sparties (GoBlogSparty, etc,), ND fans (Irish), and even Ohio State fans (NotABlueFan... though he's been around less lately for obvious reasons), none of whom are negged on sight.
We downvote stupid. Don't say stupid shit, and you'll be fine. In fact, your people are strange and new to us, so I'd encourage you to stick around and enlighten us on Nebraska stuffs.
With that said... HAHA, our nerds are beating your nerds in this nerd-off that is tangentially related to sports...
Yes they are, quite well might I add. Although it's just me and as I said before I stopped running it... There was no nebraska botnet, just one guy and a linux box. Nor am I an alumnus of well anywhere, yet, I but I didn't attend UNL. I'm just a fan, and a nerd who was getting a kick out of all the ridiculous commenters and people taking those polls seriously.
Apologies for the downvote thing, I just had posted 2 replys that were downvoted for trolling, when that was not my intention at all.
It is good to know that it was all in fun. Now on to the rivalry.
By the way you lost the Missouri game. The officials just forgot to score it correctly.
Once you get the hang of it, you won't be cited for trolling too often.
I think it's great to have a Nebraska voice on here. Welcome!
we're up to 69% and well over 5 million total votes cast. i am thoroughly amused and impressed by the techies.
Ahh I can't wait to get my hands on a free copy of NCAA 12. It's a little inflated to have us as an A- overall team, but I'm not complaining. (ot, but I personally think having a hybrid-pro/spread offense will keep our long field efficiency high as well as increasing our red zone efficiency, while switching to a 4-3 will allow our defense's strength, the line, to really bring pressure on a qb. Let's be honest... a freshman in high school could make any throw without pressure from a d line)
That, and reading the comments below the poll, I have to say that Husker fans really aren't as bad as the Texas people say they are. It was a tough battle of bots but looks like we won out in the end (or have we?).
with over 5.5 mil votes!
Nothing like a good solid victory to ease the pain eh fellas?
my vote just doesn't seem as important as before.
This seems kind of like the scam in Office Space, doesn't it?
75%-25% with 6.69 million votes cast. Someone at ESPN thinks they've struck pageview gold.
dose not care they just show the ad people that they got over 3 million hits to get money
Rumor is that ESPN is considering dq'ing some if not all 4 of the groups, but it may just be like the other useless Internet rumors, but wow I think this is just plain funny that bots may ruin espn's precious polls
Ha... rumor from who? If anything they'll make a big deal of it and promote the final as "who can bot the best?"
77-23 good guys.
7,143,662 votes later..
