Volume fluctuating on ABC/ESPN sporting events.
For a few years now when I watch games I can't get a consistent level of volume on either ESPN or ABC and it's driving me crazy! I have Comcast for a provider and have no idea if there is anything I can do. I have googled this to death and the results have yeilded zero helpful advice. Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone have any advice?

I wish it was my ears because then I would have an answer. To give an idea I usually listen to my tv between 10-12 on the volume setting but when I watch games I have to turn it up to 35-40 just to hear the announcers and when they cut to commercial I might as well be having a rock show in my living room.

If commercials are the issue yes they are louder. I've always assumed it was by design. Usually I watch with just enough DVR lag to skip most of them.

Well, if you're in SE Michigan, Comcast has had its interesting moments all day because of storm-related issues last night, at least depending on where you are. If it has been going on for years, you could ask if they are doing work in the area - I had an issue with Comcast cutting out about once a day for a while because of upgrades which they decided to do piecemeal and apparently without letting anyone know.

Do many people in MI have directv?
Or are there reasons why satellite may not be widely adopted?

I have 3 TV's on my wall, all with a dedicated DTV Box, I have all 3 connected with a dedicated audio input on my receiver so that I can switch the audio at will.
Now mind you, I only have one of the DTV boxes connected with an optic audio wire while the others are hooked in with patch cords(RCA Wires, White & Red).
The audio is definitely sucky from the patch cord ones and just fine with the optic connection, but it's especially weak today, I don't know what the reason behind it is, but I'm sick of having to raise and lower the damn volume.

This inspired me to hook up my computer speakers to the tv and run sound through those and I get a consistent volume so thank you. My game watching experience is going to be much richer after an investment in after market speakers and probably a receiver. Thanks, Samsung.

I have Time Warner Cable, and it SUCKS! It cuts out at least once a week on me. I've had to replace my HD DVR 4 different times in 3 years. The cable company can never explain to me why they stop working correctly. I think I'm going to switch to DirectTV soon.

I used to have Charter cable and my FoxHD channel would disappear from the guide. When I would call for support I was told it wasn't even available and that I must be mistaken. I eventually called and posed as a new customer and had a sales rep confirm that FoxHD was a standard part of the package and went on to not get an answer down that avenue.
I recently had to call about my Comcast service and kept getting a message that all of the customer service reps were busy and that I should call back later. It didn't even give me the option to wait, they just hung up on me. Again, I called back and selected that I was a new customer looking for service and my call was answered immediately. Just a little trick I thought I would pass on.

Occasionally, TVs have settings like "Virtual Surround Sound" or "Dynamic Bass Boost" or some other marketing-speak for audio features that attempt to give you a Wow Experience™. These features tend to have a strange effect on volume, much like you have described. If you are using your TV's built-in speakers, I would suggest looking for any similar options in the menus and turning them off to see if it makes a difference.
