Ann Arbor has always seemed like a fair slice of American pie to me - it's got all that's good and controversial about the country within its borders. Colorado's got a whole lot of millionaires trying to be cowboys. Never seen as much plastic surgery as I did during my stint in Aspen... and it wasn't the good kind.

That's a good point, and made me chuckle. Still, I'd say the difference between A2 hippies (at least the ones I hung out with, and I must admit I'm a recovering hippie myself!) and those I've known in CO and AZ is that the A2 hippies seemed to be more intelligent and committed to academic success and social/environmental justice, whereas the Western hippies seem to be more braindead and just looking to escape the realities of the world.

I lived in CO for 8 years and just moved about 6 months ago. My wife got her masters at Denver University. We lived in the Highlands and I loved everything about that state. We still plan on taking our yearly snow trip to Teluride. Sad that baked burnt down, looking forward to the new one

Maybe Toney Clemons called him.  Remember Toney saying something along the lines of this offense just didn't fit his style of play.  How has that worked out so far?

Toney Clemons:

RECEPTIONS YARDS TOUCHDOWNS
18 219 1

Michigan:

RECEIVING       GP  No.  Yds   Avg  TD Long Avg/G
-------------------------------------------------
Roundtree, Roy   7   33  395  12.0   2   74  56.4
Stonum, Darryl   7   24  323  13.5   2   66  46.1
Hemingway, J.    5   17  366  21.5   2   70  73.2
Odoms, M.        6   15  214  14.3   0   49  35.7

Getting upset about your spot on the depth chart and deciding to transfer is natural; but seriously, CU?

That program is a train wreck right now. By the time he plays, he will have a new coach, more than likely a new system, and will experience nothing but the pains of rebuilding (Assuming their next coach does, in fact, make them good again).

He should get to play a little, and it does still have a rep as a pretty good party school.  I'm sure he'll have a good time there.

As for Michigan: he came, he saw, he failed.  No disgrace there and no ill will.  He hasn't disparged the school or its coaching staff on the way out.  I will, of course, reserve the right to change my mind about the "ill will" thing if he trashes Michigan once he gets there.

I don't think he will, though.  He seemed pretty solid and I think he will stay classy.

Seeing another headline with just Buffs I mistakenly assumed Buffalo in the MAC.  Not sure what he hopes to gain as I expect them to change coaches and any promises made to him may go out the window.  Good luck to him, Boulder is a nice place.

When considering the legitimacy of his alleged claim, "I'm the best safety on the team," his decision to flush himself down to Colorado is very telling.

I'm not going to argue that Vlad Emilien is fast right now.  He's not.

But he would have to have been Usain Bolt fast to catch Carlos Brown on that play.  I'm not going to hold the 2009 spring game play against him.

He actually looked slower in the 2010 spring game, which occurred about a week or two after he re-tweaked his knee and was dusted by slow-ish receiver Roy Roundtree.

You are beyond insufferable.  The whole entire point of the videos was "LOL Emilien is slow" and you somehow turned it into how that play wasn't his fault (not the point and no one cares), no one except Usain Bolt could have caught Brown (again, not the point), then somehow managed to state "I'm not going to argue that Vlad Emilien is fast right now.  He's not."  Well, no duh, welcome to 6 posts ago.

The point you're missing is this:

Only the fastest of the fast would have been able to catch Carlos Brown on that play.  It was a missed assignment by the linebacker, which allowed Brown to be full speed and heading toward the sideline before 95% of safeties would have had time to track him down.

That play isn't evidence of Emilien's lack of speed, unless you're saying that all players who can't catch Carlos Brown in the open field are slow.

I can show you evidence that Randy Moss is really fast and outruns all kinds of defensive backs in the NFL.  Does that mean that every defensive back he's ever burned is slow?

Let me get this straight:

1.  Someone posts the 2009 and 2010 spring clips that show Emilien being outrun.
2.  People lol at Emilien's speed.
3.  You jump in to point out that the 2009 run was Leach's fault not Emilien.
4.  People point out no one cares about that we're just lol'ing at Emilien not being fast.
5.  You say something about Usain Bolt.
6.  Again it's pointed out no one is contesting that Emilien is fast.
7.  You loop back and point out that the 2009 Spring play isn't evidence of his lack of speed, which, technically, sure you can be right.  Add something unrelated about Randy Moss.

Congrats, you managed to start a thread showing how superior your logic skills are and we're at the same place we started in, that Emilien is too slow to be a safety, except you managed to successfully argue we shouldn't use the 2009 clip, just the 2010 clip to ascertain that.  Good work.

1. The 2009 clip shouldn't be used as evidence that he's slow because that's not really what it shows.  All it shows is that he was unable to catch Brown (a very fast back) and make up for Leach's mistake.

2. The 2010 clip shows Emilien a week or two after he injured his knee.  Was he fast in that clip?  No.  Could his slowness also be attributed to the fact that he had a recently injured knee?  Maybe.

I hope that's simple enough for you to understand.

Dude, there are speeds between "catching Carlos Brown" and "not catching Carlos Brown." You're making it into a binary statement. The point of those two Spring Game videos is to demonstrate HOW slow Emilien is. Carlos Brown's a fast guy, but the separation he got was ridiculous, and it was so because Emilien can't accelerate. When they both hit their top gears a few more yards downfield, Carlos was getting another step in three. We've seen thousands of football players running downfield; Emilien is about as fast at this as I am.

Did he re-injure his knee before Spring this year? I don't remember anything like that. If he was hurt so bad that he had lost like 30 percent of his speed, he wouldn't be on the field. Getting lapped by Teric Jones was demonstrative of a man who just doesn't have defensive back speed anymore.

My understanding was that his knee injury in high school was catastrophic, that OSU cooled on him because of it, and we took a flier on him hoping the knee could be repaired. But he never got his speed back, and got passed on the depth chart.

Those videos clearly show a guy with speed problems.

By the way, I didn't LOL at either of them. I thought Vlad was a great guy, a workoutaholic, and had a rep as a great teammate. He left because he doesn't have the chops to get playing time for this team, unless he can get more of his speed back.

Did he re-injure his knee before Spring this year? I don't remember anything like that.

Yes, he did.  He hurt his knee in the first few practices of the spring, and the injury was still hampering him by the spring game.  In fact, in the week leading up to the "game," it was unclear whether Emilien would be healthy enough to participate.

So...yeah...I don't take the 2010 spring game to be wholly representative of his speed potential.

Wish the kid the best, and you hope that his slow recovery from injury was the cause for his failings, but I'm not sure going to Colorado is really going to improve his stock.  Still, not going to badmouth the kid except to say that leaving with the "I'm the best safety on this team" when it is rather clear you weren't probably is a statement he wish he could take back.
