It's a little hard to read the date on that, but I think that's from August 1974.

I do remember those days ... but not that specific issue or cover story.

Treating heart disease has come a long way since then.  My next door neighbor just had three stents put in arteries of his heart.  Went in at 5:00am and was home that evening.

My neighbor had an aortic stent put in a couple weeks ago and that was outpatient too - spent maybe 10-12 hours at the center between the procedure, recovery and observation. It is pretty cool what they can do now.

It isn't just heart disease either really, but particularly relatively minor surgeries seem like in-and-out things now. When my sister developed appendicitis about five years ago, that was actually outpatient too. The description my dad gives of his appendectomy in 1953 is almost alien in comparison.

At first I asked where is the scar and then I realize the black line is it.

That is a HUGE scar! Mine barely covers four inches on my chest and this was done in 98.

Bo would have been about 46-47 about that time.  He looks good.  His heart issues were probably congenital.   He probably wasnt a smoker or heavy eater.  Its a shame, however some guys can have bad hearts and be relatively skinny and others can be huge and fat and not have issues.
