Vincent Smith continued his good play for the second straight week. It looks like he's finally healing up from that ACL injury he suffered last year. Thoughts?
I think it's good that Vincent Smith is contributing to the offense and providing a threat from the backfield.
And those are my thoughts.
He has got better every week. Good for him, i know a lot of people on here were giving him a hard time earlier in the season, hope his play the last 2 weeks tones that down a bit.
Also, we don't know what is going to happen next year as far as the starting running back. Will it be Hart? Fitz? No one knows, but I do know Vincent Smith will continue to be a contributor as a first or second back. He is vital to our team. He is a reason why I dont think Malcolm Crockett is a need in this class. Then again, anyone who wants to wear the Maize and Blue and is given the opportunity, we will take him.
I was one of those people criticizing his play early in the season, and wondering why Rodriguez kept giving him the most carries. No more -- he's been far and away our best runner, including Denard, the last two games. Maybe his leg is finally getting back to normal. Whatever the reason, he is simply not the same runner he was in the first half of the season (in a good way).
I think a lot of people are going to be watching/interested in the RB battle during spring and fall camp.
I've just been waiting for him to (hopefully) get fully healed. It seems he is coming into his own - great to see.
It's too bad he couldn't have gotten one more yard to break the century mark, great game though.
A good game from Smith. I think he is finally 100% (or very close) from the injury. He seems to be better with his cuts and acceleration.
I loved seeing him lower the shoulder and really plow into the defenders a few times.
Completely agree, he had a gain for only about 2 yards but he lowered his head and really delivered a blow to the LB tackling him. Something that won't go down on the stat sheet but a nice play regardless.
He's the best back on the team right now. I'd like to see Shaw or Hopkins take over because Smith is obviously limited physically, but he's playing well.
His touchdown per touch rate and yards lost totals are among the programs best
Getting better and better post ACL
Upperclassmen years are going to be fun. Tough player
I keep carrying the banner for Smith if only for his blocking abilities. Blocking from the back and the WRs in this offense is huge and Smith has been outstanding. Case in point - IIRC, Hopkins was responsible for at least one (maybe two) of the sacks due to missed blocks.
Considering their frontline and kerrigan, I'd say he did a good job today. Not to mention the fact that it was pissing all game.
I'm a PT, and I will say that although players typically return from ACL injuries in 4-6 months (very rarely four), it does take a full year to 18 months to return to the mystical "100%." Truth be told, research shows that even five years down the road the operated leg never returns to true 100% strength. My guess is that Vince is at 85-90% strength on his operated leg, and will continue to slowly improve as will his acceleration in particular.
I'm not a PT, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, and I concur.
I always liked Smith. Not terribly flashy, but doesn't drop passes out of the backfield, and doesn't fumble as much as Denard or Hopkins. Turnovers are going to drive me to drink. Oh wait...
He may be physically healthy, but he does not have the same shiftyness as he did last season... makes me sad.
Your profile pic agrees
so forgive the stupid question but, how did Shaw look today? He is the one that gives me the most hope to provide DRob relief as primary running threat.
Kudos for V. Smith for a great game.
then he got hurt and never returned.
now. He still lacks the big play potentialnyou would like to see but it is clear the coaches trust him to contribute to the offense in many ways. I think they will take solid right now.
has definitely been better lately.........he had a solid game today.
Reminds me of that mgoblue.com practice video that made the rounds - Smith smoking fools in that tackling drill. Dude lacks game breaking speed, but he's strong as hell for his size.
Smith had a great game, but I really thought Lewan had a great game running the ball today.
He is credited with zero rushes for 11 yards.
He is approaching the singularity with that average.
I dont know about u but I still say hes to small to be a feature back, cause against the Ohio States of the world we need some thunder wit our lightinng and VSmith is a great back but he aint Noel Divine, hes not breakaway fast nor powerful, but it must be because hes the most dependable back we have, were in the hell is Fizgld tousain??? geuss its D. Harts to loose, personally i like Hopkins better than Smith but Hopkins gotta run wit some anger...
