It's recruiting not coaching ability that people are excited about.  He is the Ohio recruiter for a Kentucky team that has been cleaning up in Ohio with all the recruits just below the Michigan/OSU level.  Beating out the rest of the B1G including MSU for recruits.  In terms of coaching ability, he is either a mediocre coach or a coach of a position that just doesn't get used much in the offense at Kentucky.

If Harbaugh and his OC want him, guys who like using TEs, then I'm inclined to believe the latter but we won't know until the season if he coaches as well as he recruits.

A perpetually poor UK team is not greater than a highly successful (in recent years, of course) MSU team simply because SEC.

As a player, would you choose to go to Kentucky and get annihilated by nearly everyone simply because it's an SEC school, or choose MSU and very likely compete for a B1G championship?

Hold on... to sell collectively, the idea of playing in the SEC and near home for all those local area recruits, is more enticing than going much farther to say msu big ten. The key was the big sale to get a bunch of them to come.

I wondered the same thing. I know he coached high school in NW Ohio a few years back, but someone I work with (and trust completely) and also coaches HS football was shocked when I mentioned him tied to UM...he seemed to think he was kind of a shady individual. Recruiting is important, but is there not someone who is both a good recruiter and coach?

I live in Kentucky and went to watch the UFC fights last night at a neighbors house with a bunch of diehard UK fans. A couple of them are connected to people in the UK athletic apartment. I walk in wearing Michigan gear like always, and the first thing that was said was "stop stealing our coaches." I only get along with them because we all hate OSU. They said Marrow is going to Michigan, and that Damian Harris is close to Marrow. Marrow leaving to come to Michigan is probably going to end their chances with Harris. But they are still hopeful.

It could.  Harris had a good connection with Borges and lost interest in Michigan when Borges left.  If they bring in someone he has a similar relationship with it could impact his decision.  Either way we'll know soon since he currently plans to announce in about 5 days.  If that gets pushed off it's likely a good sign.

I assume Marrow has accepted, just as other coaches have already accepted, but they all have to finish the contract, if they havent already, and then wait for the official announcement.

Does anyone have a Durkin update? I know it's pretty much a done deal but we only have a month for recruiting. Officially naming him part of the staff helps with Iman Marshall and probably KLS.

Does anyone know why Harbaugh is targeting Marrow for his staff? I didn't see any prior working relationship between Harbaugh and him. I'm not saying he wouldn't be a very good hire, I just don't know why specifically Harbaugh wants him over other candidates for his staff. In other words, does Harbaugh know him? Or was he highly recommended by someone? Just curious.
