Optimism Attache

I'm not a rocket scientist--nor are my countrymen whose 'rockets' always end up on the seafloor--but here is a crazy idea: What if he was contacting him about coming to Kentucky? Marrow's obviously feeling successful, getting courted by a big-time program. Why not take a shot on Mr Clark now? I know it is a bit farfetched, especially considering Clark's comments, but you never know.

"Clark told MLive he spoke with Marrow over Twitter direct message on Sunday, the first time he's really ever talked with him, as he's not interested in going to Kentucky. And while Marrow didn't directly mention Michigan, Clark said he left the conversation more or less convinced that Marrow is leaning toward taking a job in Ann Arbor."

The rehashing of this for the point grab is weak and your context doesn't even follow the meme around coaches. We get the NFL guys are dumb asses who protect the sheild at all costs. But does the same tired (yes, already) take have to be in every thread?

Yes, as you can tell by the <700 points I've accumulated since 2008, I like to throw in lots of random crap just to run up my point total.

You might not have appreciated the attempt at humor, which is fine.  I would point out that your erroneous assumption didn't add a whole lot to the discussion either, but did serve to make it a bit nastier.

...Tell you what, if your delicate internet sensibilities get upset so easily, if I bump into you on game day in Ann Arbor this fall, I'll have UofMDDS96 buy a beer for you at Ashley's. :-)

It would be really bad timing for a UK TE coach to start following a TE prospect in the same week that prospect announced his SOLID final 2 teams. One of which has offered the TE coach the same position at their school...it doesn't make any sense for Marrow to follow Clark now, unless....

Not necessarily. A lot of UK reporters are local reporters just like UM has/had. They are hearing a lot of local things who are close to the program. Sound familar?

Regardless of that fact, it looks every bit that Marrow is using UM's offer as leverage. If not, he wouldn't be undecided. We would or should have heard either a solid rumbling of one lean or another to yes or no.  It doesn't make sense for Marrow to remain "undecided" but yet wants to "meet with UK officials" this week other than to see what offer UK counters. Just common sense unless there is some weird crazy clause in his contract which is making things sticky, or trying to throw a lot of people off the trail for some reason, but I highly doubt that.

We'll probably get Marrow if UK doesn't counter with what he thinks is acceptable.

Scout has an article up saying that Chris Clark talked with him. Chris said he was surprised to hear from him seeing as Kentucky had not been recruiting him. After the conversation he (Clark) was left with the impression that he was joining our staff. In fact, he mentioned that we were an outstanding school. It is up to read now. Free side of the website too.

You can still apply the leverage theory. Here's why. If he wants to talk to UK first, then he must have more interest in staying at UK if they can match or exceed UM's offer...otherwise what else is there to even think about?

It's just purely speculation but out of all the coaches, Marrow is dragging his feet the most and usually when (not always) that happens, it's because of $$$.

I did see the Chris Clark twitter info after I posted my first response. What I found pretty odd is that Marrow didn't say one way or another WHO he was recruiting for. Real odd and in my opinion, kind of sketchy for both programs. Not cool IMO.

If he cold called the kid, still representing UK , they could be playing Harbaugh's game. Harbaugh is cold calling recruits not previously interested in Michigan....perhaps they figured they do the same.

Would be better if it was the other way around and he followed Bunting and Clark followed him. Marrow feels like a big deal mostly because of how bad 'BBN' wants him.
