Video released of York Assault

Submitted by michchi85 on

Found here.  It's not pretty to watch, and York blindsides the guy.  After seeing this, I have a hard time seeing him back on this team.  Very cowardly.

No, you should read and comprehend my entire post. In no way shape or form do I make an excuse or condemn the actions of Mr. York. In fact I did state he should be punished and by no way was he in the right. My statement and point was to stop saying he could have killed someone. What is the word you were using in your attempt to insult me. I'm curious

Actually, it does happen pretty infrequently.  There were about 700 homicides in the U.S. last year caused by fists or feet, and most of those are prolonged beatings.  There were roughly 760,000 cases of aggravated assault.   York's size and the blindsinding definitely increased the chances, but killing someone with one punch is still very difficult to do even if your'e trying.

If someone hits their head on a curb after being punched the cause of death wouldn't be hands or feet, correct?  All of the people who are punched and hit their head on cement and suffer permanent damage aren't in those stats either.

They're saying he could be knocked unconscious and hit his head on the curb, or break his neck as it's limp and cannot be braced from impact to the impact of the fall.

Why are you even arguing it? Just because something isn't likely makes it impossible?

You're very trusting of crime classification methods (e.g. of the 3 links I posted, at least one if not two will not be classified as homicides).

And even so, I don't personally think almost twice a day across the country is infrequent. And difficulty is irrelevant to the argument as to whether or not he "could have" done it.

He needs to be off the team and I think he needs to find another school. I'm sure someone will still let him play football anyway.

He should have known when he threw the punch, what the results of his actions would be.

I'd be surprised and disappointed if he is allowed back on the team.

Two cowardly acts back to back, he sucker punches a kid and then takes off..absolutely disgusting.

Not sure if Jones knew or not but it does seem a bit odd how he got out of the way right before the punch.

Ahh Csonte! One thing I never in my life understood. Why kids can think knocking someone out who is defenseless is fun? I don't care if the dude is bigger, if the dude bumped into or is talking shit about your momma. Why in the hell is it fun to punch someone blindly? I've seen it a million times. Just senseless and cowardly. Show this video and hopefully some photos of the kid who was injured to the rest of the team and make sure this shit never happens again. Just awful. Good luck my man, I'm sure you will get a 2nd chance somewhere. Don't Titus Young it.

I usually try and look at things from both sides before coming to any conclusions, but this is horse shit. That dude has his frickin head turned and his hands in his pockets! What a chump, get his ass out of here

I know this isn't my decision to make, but if it were, I'd throw this kid's ass off the team and think nothing of it. I don't want someone like this representing my team and my university.

He shouldn't have thrown the punch no matter the scenario. Be the better man, remember the teammates you'd be letting down by fighting, and just walk away. I guarantee that even if that guy was talking some mad shit, had C'sonte walked away, the guy would've woken up the next morning and not remembered any of it. Nor would he have cared. But of course, C'sonte didn't walk away.

To throw a complete sucker punch when the guy wasn't even looking, and then to just run off like that, shows he's nothing more than a brute and a coward.

To sucker punch someone face to face in the heat of the moment is one thing, but to take 2 seconds to line it up and blindside someone, well that takes a special kind of person.  Boot him - we need leaders not thugs.

For which the school has a right to expel
the student after due process pursuant to the Student Code of Conduct?

The process is confidential and result would be unknown Nevertheless, the football program may not have the option to reinstate him, which they should not do anyway.

A scholarship should be available this year and next for a deserving athlete.

That was a brutal shot. This kid needs to be off the team, and likely in jail. I do hope the team is still able to offer a structured support environment for him to take advantage of if he so chooses. We all make mistakes...his was just particularly stupid and reckless.

involved in the initial encounter was a former UM hockey player who is now in the NHL Either there had to be a previous confrontation or they are talking about the victim's friend who they allowed to walk past.

This is too much.  UM cannot allow this vid to become the "face" of the program.  First, Hoke needs to act swiftly, given the video evidence, and dismiss York from the team...not waiting for the legal process or other bullshit.  Second, the victim deserves an apology from Jones and the University (obviously from York as well, but he is not our guy after number one).  Third, York can rehabilitate himself through counseling/complying with the justice system and facing his punishment like a man.  Fourth, if he wholly commits himself to point three, York will likely find a program willing to give him that second chance.  But not here.  See Dorial Green-Beckham and OU.

Is this also considered a "hate" crime?

So dissapointed in Csonte.  This type of punch can easily kill someone.

Don't race bait this thing. Kid was an asshole college kid who should be kicked off team but there is nothing here to say he targeted the guy based on race, rather the evidence suggests he targeted because of a dispute about his sport of choice and that they were "jaw jacking" each other. Ignorant comments like this are for Osu and MSU boards.

Get him off the team.  We don't need people like him on the team and it opens up another scholarship for someone that deserves it.

Hoke needs to dismiss York from the team immediately, if he plays for Michigan again it will be a travesty.  After being kicked off the team, not only the legal process throught the courts should occur, but whatever disciplinary process the school can take to remove York from the University all together needs to happen.  He assaulted and seriously injured a fellow student athlete.

And Jones?  He was part of this too, he set the guy up, knew what was about to happen and I believe should face discipline too.  Jones knew York was winding up, doesn't a decent human being try to at least stop their teammate from making a terrible mistake like this?  And how about helping the victim who may have been laying their on the ground dying.  His jaw was broke in 3 places, he lost a tooth, and suffered a serious concussion.  He will likely be dealing with the effects of this attack for months if not years.

York is a gutless thug and Jones is a coward.  I will never cheer for either if they ever see the field for us.
