In case you missed the tweet this morning, I wrote a rant on mgoangst. My boredom will probably lead to more spring game every snap videos shortly.

Video: OSU and ND Spring Game Highlights
Looks like the middle of the field is wide open. This won't be the same team we see in November, though. It is a good sign for us though. They definitely don't look like a team that is going to end up in a bowl...
Our starting MLB, SDE, DT all didn't play.
I rescind my statement then. With stronger play from that front seven, I can definitely see you getting to a bowl game this year.
The news must not have gotten up to Denver... Who's gonna be the one to tell him?
Either my sarcasm emitter or your sarcasm detector is broken. I just hate ending my posts with some dumb internet lingo like /s.
#NoMoreForwardSlashes
I'm with you on eliminating the /s. I was referencing the fact that DenverBuck posted twice trying to defend the defense while ignoring the bowl statement. Sorry to have made you question your sarcasm machine. I enjoyed it.
I agree about eliminating the /s. I never use it anyway. If people are really so oblivious that they can't understand sarcasm, the "worst" that can happen is "minus one mgopoint" under the current system.
Mgoblog prides itself on being the most intelligent commuity in the sports blog-o-verse. Is it really necessary to explain sarcasm to such an intelligent group?
I'm jumping on this bandwagon, although I feel like the writer can shoulder some of the blame as well. If the writing doesn't convey the sarcasm, fail. Regardless of the blame, that /s thing is annoying.
Also, the first team D was divided between the teams. Any OSU fan will tell you that we aren't at all worried about our D this year.
You could run the table at 11-0 this year, but it seems rather unlikely you'll get that 12th victory.
Oh snap...
is worried about a defense that gave up 26 points to Purdue and 40 to us? I think expectations are a little high in year one. Let's see if you can make a bowl game before you (ohio fans in general) start claiming that you'll win multiple NCs in the next 5 years.
Just a few days ago I was wondering why I didn't know of any teams that did that. It's a cooler concept, IMO.
*sponsored by Coleman.
Not AT ALL worried ? I dont expect them to be bad...but they were weak last season and need to improve..gave up some big games...So to not be worried AT ALL seems very cocky
During the game, one of the announcers said that they would be playing a "simple defense with little to no blitzing or stunting."
Sounded and looked like NFL pro bowl defense. Urban wants his O to look good.
ND running backs look fast and solid. but other than that ehh.
Ohio looks like when meyer was in florida for the last year. and their defense looks awful.
no doubt about it, but I think their run defense was pretty terrible today. Missed tackles, missed assignments, and getting blocked into submission. They better really work hard at the point of attack or they'll have another tough year.
Worse than their run defense, their corners looked horrible. Given that they only have 4 scholarship players, teams are gonna pass all day against them. They all looked like Gary Gray out there with their backs to the ball.
But the ball placement was pretty good on some of those throws and the receivers made good catches. Moreover, the D did get a couple INTs.
Who is #4, (the running back)? I looked on their roster and the only number #4 is a safety? Kid looks pretty impressive?
#4 is George Atkinson. He's third on the depth chart behind Cierre Wood and Theo Riddick.
Did anyone else get the sense that ND was playing with a lot more intensity than Ohio? Seemed like they were running faster and hitting harder to me. Obviously I'm not expecting Ohio to be loafing when the season rolls around but I thought it was interesting. Also Ohio's secondary looked a lot like ours two years ago. Lots of space.
The OSU offense seems to be tearing up the defense, which is basically the exact opposite of how it should be. I doubt that Urban has turned them into a juggernaut so quickly, so might they have some questions on defense?
They weren't allowed to go after the quarterbacks for most of the game, so that probably made the defense look worse and the offense better.
Braxton badly underthrew a receiver for a 40-45 yard gain. Sometimes the offense can make the defense look poor, but I don't think that is the case for them today. The defensive woes looked self inflicted.
It is only April, but I wonder if Urban regrets signing that contract with his family. I'm sure he realizes he needs to put in more time with this team right now. Does he have an out clause for that contract?
Wow ND's defense looks horrible... The LBs are reading run... and then both run to get eaten by blocks. Not to mention confusion in man coverage by their secondary. Of course, it's just a spring game so it doesn't mean anything, but they need to be wary with that. Whomever #38 and #28 are, they are very bad. Out of place on 4 of those highlights.
As for Ohio, a lot of those highlights seem to be the main result of miscommunication in zone coverage. It looks like they are running a Cover 3 in a lot of those highlights and nobody is picking up the receivers who are doing digs/sitting in zones. That's a recurring strategic problem that they probably will work heavily on in the fall.
ND seems like they really need one superstar DE to help that defense...
The ND defense didn't look all that hot because Manti Te'o, Stephon Tuitt, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Zeke Motta, Jamoris Slaughter, Danny Spond, and Bennett Jackson all only played one series.
This game was for the second and third stringers on defense.
What are they doing at the 1 minute mark of the Ohio highlights? I am unfamiliar with this play. It appears the QB is on his knee? And then the running back (full back?) kicks the ball?
I guess you didn't watch the Sugar Bowl.
Nope. I was too busy thinking about brunette girls.
Miller looked good as did Thomas. Ohio is going to be short of receivers this year. Urban is preaching a young fun cutthroat brand of football that will be very attractive to top talent. Ohio is going to have solid linebacking and d line play.
Notre dame looked pretty weak defensively. The qb carousel will likely continue and Kelly's face will be purple by mid September. Notre dame did look good at the rb position. Daniels looked legit and Eifert is simply a matchup nightmare.
I'm still not afraid of Miller's arm. I know he kind of torched us last year, but he was way off on some of his throws in that game and our secondary will be improved. He's still a poor man's Denard in my eyes.
It’s always tough to tell from spring game footage, especially highlights, but ND’s defense looks awful. Sit everyone except Manti Te’o, because they’re just getting in his way. Although I suppose our defense wasn't very impressive in our spring game either. Anyway, thanks for posting this.
Notre Dame's defense looks rock solid.
we'll see how long that holds up now that aaron lynch is gone. granted, te'o is damn good, but they've got some holes to fill.
and the two evenly-matched squads, it looked like Notre Dame was playing Navy.
I've always enjoyed Cierre Wood's game, that said I also enjoy him fumbling at the Big House UTL.
should be noted that John Simon diidn't play much in the spring game and he's gonna be Huge for them this fall,
I think they pretty much did what we did with Denard i.e. "We know you're a beast, so let's see what everyone else can do"
Video only shows the tunovers and offensive highlights. Defense was solid and front 7 is very good again. Safeties are good but the corner besides Bennett Jackson is a big question mark. #4 George Atkinson III is electric but is also 6'1" so he is hard to bring down. Cierre Wood got bigger but with our RBs he won't be needed to carry 30 times a game. WRs are a big ?. Davaris Daniels #16 needs to step up to help replace floyd. Our TEs are the best group in the country. Besides Eifert we moved 6'7" Troy Niklas from OLB to TE and immediately started playing with the 1st team. He was out with a concussion for this game. Everett Golson looked Really Good. Rees sucks. Hendrix has accuracy problems. Look for Golson to start.
WHO CARES !!!!
Go Blue!
Well you guys posted a video on it and were analysing it so...... i guess you do care.
Well you guys posted a video on it and were analysing it so...... i guess you do care.
…Me? I found it pretty interesting insight. In fact, that kind of content is why I come here in the first place, and I suspect I’m not alone. No need to be rude.
Thankyou. BTW for the OSU fans on this board, Miller can't throw for shit.
Congratulations. You've earned your place.
Honestly I'd rather start Rees over Miller if they were both on ND. He's that bad.
I may be wrong, but isn’t ND’s offense predicated on spread to pass? Miller is very athletic, so he can be really effective in a Meyer type offense that often utilizes the QB as a run threat. Don’t think he’d do well at all in ND’s offense though. Apples to Oranges, I’d think.
Kelly adapts the offense to whoever the best QB is. Last year it happend to be two prostyle guys w/o wheels in Crist and Rees. Miller reminds me of a little faster but not as good passer in Andrew Hendrix. In passed years Kelly would rather have a Pro stlye guy than say someone like Denard who's game is dependant on his running ability (No offense). The new offensive coordinator Chuck Martin seems more run oriented but we shall see.
BTW I was referring to this coming year with Rees and Miller and not 2 or 3. Miler obviously has more potential.
I can't help but read your posts in Owl's voice. All the rolled "R"s are messing with my head
How riveting. I wonder if this is a relatively regular reaction to reading my ramblings, or, rather, restricted to you?
It's not restricted to him anymore, damn you BISB
I know it's not the same guy but this is the owl voice playing in my head. And welcome to the board Mr Owl....you're off to good start!
Takehomes from the ND video: if Borges can get Denard in space, watch out. He might very well push to break the longest running touchdown in ND stadium history.
I'll be honest, Ohio running the spread scares me quite a bit with Braxton Miller at QB. The thing that doesn't scare me from an offensive stand point is that's all they have. Their O-line is average, and they have no playmakers at WR and RB.
Why does it scare you? Have some faith in mattison. He went against that d every day at Florida and in the sec.
I think we have more playmakers than you think we do.
SHH let them find out when the time is right
Braxton Miller is extremely elusive.
Is when he says there is a heavy blitz on the Williams interception. They brought a whopping three man pressure on the play. Only the best and brightest at Notre Dame.
Cierre Wood should be one of the best players in the country. Notre Dame needs to make him at that offensive line the focal point. It was there all of last year.
will be coming soon I will save my sarcastic critisism till then
will be coming soon I will save my educated guess till then.
atkinson looks good. That's a tough 1-2 punch at RB. Rees and Hendrix looked pretty meh. Gholson (sp?) looks more natural, but he had lots of double clutch throws, obviously doesn't know what he's doing out there yet. I can see what the grumbling is about down there.
I wonder if B. Miller has small hands. He just doesn't throw a tight spiral. How did meyer luck into 2 running QB's his first year and RR got none? c'est la vie.
Wait until you see every snap. Atkinson had two unforced fumbles.
Considering that we "won" the Terrelle Pryor sweepstakes, maybe Rich Rodriguez missing out on a running QB wasn't the worst thing ever.
will there be every snap videos for michigan defense in spring game or overall every snap for the entire game? love these!
Hard to separate offense and defense during the spring since they are playing against each other.
http://mgoblog.com/content/three-headed-quarterback-film-reprise
i didn't word it right . Will there be every snap for the michigan spring game like ND? thanks for clips though.
Of you guys know how to post a video on Facebook?
Just copy and paste the link address on to your face book wall
i agree with you Run 2 daylig. They need to take advantage of there offensive line and pound the rock. If turnovers dont kill them again this year ND could have a huge year offensively.
