VIDEO: Michigan - Alabama Full Game
If you were wasted last night (and judging from Twitter, you were), you may want to re-watch this and see what actually happened, but probably not.

Any replay of that game should not be allowed.

I drank as much whiskey as I could get my hands on to forget about this game. No way I'm going back down that tunnel of pain.

Sad thing? I'm such a masochist that I just rewatched the first few drives of the second half. On O, it seems like Borges finally figured out "hey, maybe we should run Denard, because, you know." On D, although gap integrity was much better than the first half, tackling was perhaps the worst that I can remember since GERG.
On a positive note, I have to love Denard's toughness--it was clear that he was trying as hard as he possibly could to carry the team. And despite the two interceptions (which I think were more in the poor decision category), I felt that he threw the ball as well as he ever has. Some of those windows were extremely small, and he was getting it there. Despite the ugliness of the game, I still think that this team will challenge for the B1G championship--almost everyone else in the league looked pretty pathetic this weekend, and no one else was playing anyone even distantly close to the level of Bama.

"Now remember folks..."
Brent Musburger needs to retire already. He gets progressively worse every year. When my family watches the game, we're at the point of muting it and listening to the radio when he's the play-by-play.

I think it was the 3rd quarter when Musberger finally corrected himself and then on Smith's next carry he called him Devin again.

It was the de-facto number one team in the country, and the gap between this team and the number 2 team (USC, Oregon, LSU, etc.) is significant. Yes, we lost badly and were outmatched in almost every aspect of the game, but it's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. It's all uphill from here - we won't face a team nearly as good as them all season. (However, a team that is a lower quality, "generic" version of the tide is...Sparty - we better figure out how to play when Denard is made ineffective as a runner.) I thought if we just made it out of the game healthy, it would be good news but even that didn't happen. And is it just me or did Denard actually regress as a thrower? He was airing out and lofting up even some short passes.
Next saturday can't come soon enough.

in truth--Michigan is going to be in some dogfights this year, even with a more even playing field. Some of us are going to be thrown back on just loving our team even if they aren't world beaters.

I was pretty wasted last night so thanks for posting this so I can break down each play a little more rationally.

Havent/probably wont rewatch but did anyone else think James Ross looked pretty damn impressive? I think him, Bolden, Pipkins, Odjemudia, Wilson, Norfleet, Kalis, Darboh and Funchess will all get serious time as the year goes on and by the end of the year - And play pretty well.

You will see the two blatant NON CALLS that changed this game for the worst.
1. There is a CLEAR face mask penalty that should at least off-set the holding call on Lewan. Michigan is then not in a 2nd and 20 and conversely, not in a 3rd and 20 when Denard throws a pick off his back foot to a spot he thought Roundtree would be at.
2. On the INT - there has been debate about this and whether it is a call or not. HERE IS THE FOOTAGE. Roundtree is off balance... but the ball is clearly in the air. Roundtree's eyes and head are up, watching the ball and he is running to a spot. The defender pushes him down, clearly impeding his ability to get to the ball. HUGE, huge non-call.
It isn't "whining" to point these things out. Call a fair game and then make sense of the pounding that UM took. But it wasn't a fair game in the least - and small non-calls like these change outcomes. They really do.

It is also airing on ESPNU right now. Just a FYI

Thank you, Thorin Son O' Odin, for bothering to record, edit and post vids of the Alabama game timely and expertly - damn the copyrights, full speed ahead. I missed out on watching the game live because I attended a wedding last night.

The play at 1:12:10 (1st half) was the best pass I've ever seen Denard make.
I'm predicting Norfleet will take at least 4 kick returns to the house this season.

I was at a wedding with little to no cell service so only got sporadice and depressing score updates via text. Then i read and had many sadz.
But watching makes me feel better. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with this team, and if it had played anyone but Alabama, there would likely be a win to start the season and a lot of talk about how good this team can be with a lot less focus on the problems that are likely in a first game no matter who the opponent is. But they played freakin' Alabama.
I'm blaming this one on DB. What was it about the 2010 UM football program that convinced him that two years later it would really be able to challenge one of the top 3 teams in the nation? It's not like the Alabama juggernaut arose last year. If his only excuse is that in marketing there's no such thing as bad publicity, he's an ass. Just like the coaches need to scheme for the players they have to succeed, the guy scheduling games needs to make it so the team has a chance to succeed.

Like I've said in other threads, this game was beneficial in a long-term sense by allowing us to raise our game. I have to think we can use this game as motivation to manhandle teams like MSU, Nebraska, and Wisconsin (when we play them, when!)
