VIDEO: Inside Michigan Football Episode 3
Includes some of Hoke's postgame locker room speech. Hoping to get a 720p copy of this up eventually but this will have to do for now.

I'm just not sure how I feel about the Legend Number thing. On one hand I think it's a really cool way to honor them without retiring the numbers. On the other hand I feel it's kind of unfair to take a good player and basically make him wear someone elses number, essentially keeping that player's number from ever becoming "Legendary."

I think Hoke said he's not forcing the jersey on anybody. They can decline if wanted. But then they are passing up the locker too.

Yeah, but do you really want to be the guy to decline? I feel like Hoke wouldn't like that very much.

I'm not particularly crazy about the patch thing, but I think the chances of some of these scenarios people come up with actually happening are pretty slim.
My guess is you would just add his name to the patch too. It would be the Oosterban/Ryan patch/locker/what have you. I know that takes a little away from it, but it would also be kind of cool to have a list of legends who wore the same number. I understand that it could get a little ridiculous decades from now, but I would hope that would mean we have like 7 national championships if we have that many 3-year All-Americans.

I see where you are coming from, but with a program that has had 133 teams, there is going to be baggage that comes with almost any jersey, this one just got unretired with some pomp and circumstance.
Giving an important jersey to a player didn't seem like a negative when #1 was the defacto "legend" jersey for wideouts. It didn't stop Braylon for making his own mark, if anything it was cool to see players add to the status of the #.
I sincerely hope this will not hinder Jake Ryan's pursuit of "legendary" status.

Devin is a phenomenal interview, would love to see him have a football-to-television career like Desmond.

How would you answer the question posed to Hoke: "What area on the team do you feel gives you the most consistency each week?"
I would say pass protection and special teams.

But that single interview with DG made him one of my favorite players...
I'd always hear that he wasn't the most focused kid (similar to BWC)...and knowing that Denard was the starter, he wouldn't put his all into being a backup. You'd also hear rumors that the reason the coaches got him on the field more last year was to keep him involved and keep his head in the game.
After watching that...I can't say any of that stuff is untrue, but I CAN say that it is the past. This kid said he wanted to win the WR of the year award. His favorite play of this year was a block.
In the end, I think Devin just wanted to play. I'm excited to see his potential at WR. He's currently our go-to-guy and he's getting significantly better every day.
I think it's going to be tough to beat out Bellomy (who I think is underrated)...especially with his potential at WR. A Bellomy to Gardner combo might be too good to pass up unless Darboh or Chesson turn into Braylon in the next 6-7 months.
No matter what he plays...I'm rooting for the kid.
