The Victors Rally at Michigan Theater on Feb 21. WTF is this?

Not a critical post. I just had dinner at Blue Tractor in AA (f-ing good place by the way). When I was walking out I saw a poster by the door for a "Victors Rally" to take place on the 21st at the Michigan Theater. All I could glean from it was that RichRod, Rick Leach and "other coaches and players" would be on hand and telling stories and showing video clips. It also said it was being sponsored by some HR company. Never seen blatant sponsorship of the football program like that. Was a little weird. Anyone have any idea what this business is about? Why are they having a football rally in the middle of February? Who all is going to be there. Why is this happening. Some of the online links are a little weird too. One mentions something about this "not being about politics"??? If any of you who are more connected know anything about this I'd love to know what the story is.

Just a little odd. Mentions of country and politics?? Also the mention of the sponsorship by some company I've both never heard of nor can remember even being mentioned in any other athletic dept sponsorship (like Domino's or Alro or some of the usual corporate suspects). Further, why hold it at the Michigan Theater which they have to pay for versus any number of on campus venues that would be free.

Rich Rod and David Brandon will be there, according to umgoblue.com Even with them, I agree that the whole thing seems strange. It's a corporation, not the athletic department, organizing it as far as I can tell. Which is not to say that it couldn't be a nice idea, but it still seems odd.

Well Junior day is the 20th right? Coaches can't actually recruit players at junior camps, http://tinyurl.com/yklxhdh Something tells me this isn't really for the fans, lol So its off campus, after the camp concludes, cheap and with little outside advertising, coaches and players attending and all those juniors just happen to be in town.
It is about the kids who love to play the game, work hard and try their best to win...for themselves, [oh yeah] and for all of the fans.

I saw an advertisement for this about a week ago, and had a similar "WTF" reaction. Irish brings up an interesting idea, but even that would be odd and unprecedented. Maybe it is just a PR event to try and win back the support of older "on the fence about RichRod" alums, and possibly slip in a quick presentation about the luxury boxes?

Sam Webb interviewed the guy who organized it on February 12 (Podcast # 7 Victors Rally Event Preview). You can listen to it on itunes or at wtka's site under Michigan Insider. The thinking was that since we didn't have a bowl game they could do this as a rally to support Michigan football. RichRod, Leach. Barwis,Gary Moeller, Jim Brandstatter, Frank Beckmann Sam Webb, and other guests which the interviewee wouldn't reveal. It is not a University sponsored event which is why it isn't in a campus building.

I heard Sam interview the guy on WTKA. If I lived anywhere near Ann Arbor I would be all over this. Let's see... watch Michigan football highlights at home... or watch Michigan football highlights with Rich Rod and various current players and alumni... tough call. :)
