Very OT: Eminem --- Detroit vs. Everybody (NSFW)
It's super slow around here...so why not? Plenty of people on here are from the Detroit area and/or fans of Eminem.
Eminem feat. Royce Da 59, Big Sean, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf and Trick Trick. Produced by Statik Selektah.

I feel bad for Maryland once Norfleet gets wind of this. I'm predicting 5 punt return TDs and the Heisman.

and much better than Eminem, IMO.

At this juncture, yes.

Yeah, I like a lot of Eminems early stuff, but none of his recent albums are as good as the stuff that Danny has been putting out. XXX and Old are amazing albums (Old was probably tied for my Rap AOTY last year with RTJ1) and Danny's features are always strong.

That might be an unpopular opinion, but I agree.
I really like the collaborations he does with artists that you wouldn't think fit together. I really like the tracks he did with Purity Ring and Rustie.

I love Eminem's verse. I think Danny Brown's verse is the hardest to understand.

I agree that he was difficult to understand. I really wish he would've used his "old" voice for this track. DSOM/Hybrid era Danny Brown fits this beat a lot better.

Danny Brown fan with a Centipede Hz MGoPic?
Love it. +1

Danny brown is terrible.
(Also, I'm going to marry Dej Loaf)

Big Sean's verse was straight fire. Best verse I've heard from him since all of the lights remix.
honestly, they were all fantastic. One of the better rap songs I've heard. I'm excited to see if they remix it. Black Milk and Trick Trick totally deserve a go at it.

Serious question - did the "vs. Everybody" thing start in Detroit? Or was like Gary, Indiana or Trenton, NJ or some other city doing that ten years ago?

It was Detroit.

Not a bad verse by Em... man I miss the good ole days when he was on top of the game. Beat is simple and dope.

"Cough up a line, 313 where I'm from/ Xan got me crosseyed like Bernstein's son"
Favorite line of the track.

Danny Brown is nice.

but the track overall is kind if weak, IMO. Don't dislike Eminem but not a fan. Danny Brown has some good stuff but other than that line I want really feeling it. Maybe I was expecting something else from a "Detroit vs Everybody" titled track/lp

Just like you, I couldn't feel it, from Danny Brown's and Eminem's speed-spitting to Big Sean's lack of...presence, even if he did have some decent punches. The beat didn't do anything for me. There wasn't anything interesting going on with the loop. the track didn't bang or bounce like hip hop music from the D is known to do (see Dilla, Black Milk, Waajeed and the next closest thing from the D, 14KT, from Ypsi). Overall, I thought the verses were just average. I expected more...viciousness...from a track that aims to go against everybody.

Elzhi should have been on the track
November 11th, 2014 at 9:20 PM ^
That's what I was thinking when I saw the names on the track. Detroit vs. everybody and you don't have a verse from Elzhi??!!

Love that Eminem rounded up the local guys. Need more stuff like this.

Coincidentally Eminem and Rihanna were just the closing performers on HBOs Concert for Valor. Metallica anchored the middle. It was a good show.

I don't have any good, concrete reasons to do this but I credit Ace.

Well.....?

Big Sean's verse is sick. I don't know what you guys are listening to. The hook is incredible, too. Here's a few snippets from
Big Sean's verse.
Boy I hit the beat I just treat that shit like a diary
I'm offended if you hear my new shit and you ain't rewindin' me
Self made, I never needed your bail or a wire, see
I'm never callin' collect, I call to collect
My homie wanted a Chevy so I put my dog in the vet
Or
Reminiscin' on listenin' to 50 fifty times a day
Back when tenth grade was like fifty days away
Tryna get paid fifty ways a day
Used to put fifty on the layaway, now my closet fifty shades of grey
Or
Bitch I'm the D, can't no offense dunk on me
I'm Mr. Big Shot, these hoes get drunk off me
I'm overrespected, my mama gated community's overprotected
So futuristic, I'm already over my next bitch
November 12th, 2014 at 1:12 AM ^
Lyrically it's a very good verse, but his delivery doesn't really click with me on it, and it kind of holds it back. That being said, people are definitely sleeping on that verse.
November 12th, 2014 at 12:35 AM ^
So old that I would've thought Detroit vs. Everybody would’ve meant a collaboration among the Temptations, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, Mary Wells, the Commodores, the Jackson 5 and Jr. Walker & the All Stars.

Who is on the first verse? Is that Danny Brown? (Sorry I dont listen to much hip-hop anymore)
November 12th, 2014 at 1:47 AM ^
Royce Da 5'9". Personally thought he had the best flow for the beat.
November 12th, 2014 at 6:48 PM ^
Yeah, definitely. Nothing in his lyrics really knocks you over, but IMHO he's got the only flow that really feels like the anthem the song is trying to be.
