This year is a race to the NIT imho, but it also builds for next year. I haven't ruled out NCAA but Uconn is a must-win and we have to pretty much run the B10 schedule now. With injuries and underachievers the B10 schedule doesn't look as tough as it once did. I think the only 2 assured teams in the NCAA are Wisc and MSU. Purdue is in unless they continue to collapse like the rest of the B10 teams seem to be doing this year.
Last night when Manny was getting a "rest" we saw what I think is the future of M basketball. With Manny out, they ran 100% of JB's offense which is basically a 4-out with the big at high post. When Vogrich was in with Stu, Novak, Morris, and Simms the floor spacing opened up. This is exactly what JB's offense is supposed to do.
Each game I see Morris I get more excited about him as PG and think that very soon he'll be starting and Stu will move to shooting guard. This is a winner because Morris is a much better PG and a bigger, more active defender. Stu is a spot-shooter than can drop 3's at will when he doesn't have to run point.
My only question is who will play the part of big next year. I think Simms is gone and Gumby is definetly out. Can we find a euro-style big that fits JB's system in the guys on the bench or that we are recruiting?
