Verification of Trey Burke Rumors? [ED]
Hi guys. I am not trying to cause a panic, but I heard a rumor from a friend (caveats, grain of salt, etc.) that Sam Webb mentioned that he believes Trey is leaning towards the NBA now. Is there any truth to this? I could not find any mention of it anywhere and cannot listen to Sam's radio show.
Sorry if this has already been discussed. Any info is appreciated!
[ED:BISB - So much speculation. So many threads. So little actual information. We've pulled several of these threads thus far, but for now, let me just say: we. don't. know. Sam Webb has heard he's leaving. Chris Balas has heard he's staying. Nostradamus's 3rd Quatrain indicates that he shall lead a great revolution, but shall be struck down by a son of the East. I know patience isn't our thing, but PATIENCE PLEASE]
It's on the Scout premium board and is couched in THIS IS MY OPINION type stuff. Rivals has opposite information. Take it as you will.
You should probably add a question mark or something to the thread title. I just about had a heart attack for the second time this morning.
Edit: Much thanks, and BISB: we all know Nostradamus was a huge Duke homer. You can't take anything that guy says about basketball outside Durham seriously.
And here I always thought the guy cheered for ND.
You're thinking of this guy:
Mea culpa.
First, UMHoops has a run down of the current situation up right now:

Second, Sam said this morning that it's his opinion that Burke would leave if he was going to make his decision today.

The good news, I think, is that Burke may not have received his Advisory Committee report yet. Sam emphasized that the situation is fluid.
Sam Webb stated very clearly that it's his OPINION that Trey Burke is going to leave for the draft. Rivals insiders are saying that the Burke family is leaning towards staying.
There are twitter rumor-mongerors that keep insisting that Trey has signed with an agent and is leaving for the draft, however according to umhoops, the Burke family has been quoted saying that they're still going through the process.
Players recieve their evaluation back from the NBA underclassmen comittee on the sixth, so we should know more by then.
Yes this is true.
Does anyone know if there's truth to the rumor that he's withdrawn from his classes? With all the students and campus people on this board you'd think someone would be able to verify this.
Also, there are rumors he talked with an agent, can he talk with one and still come back, what are the rules on this? If he signed with one it's obvious he's gone, but what about just talking with one?
Would a professor really announce the plans of any given student? That seems odd.
I believe this would be a violation of Trey's rights and the professor would be in serious trouble.
I've heard semi-reliable sources say the same thing.
Isn't withdrawing from class bad for our APR? I assume it's way too late to withdraw without failing.
That's too bad, but this program has come too far to let 1 player determine its fate. Good luck to Trey, but Michigan basketball is bigger than 1 point guard. I have faith that Beilien will make this team work some how.
Michigan has scored in the last two years with Darius Morris, Trey Burke, and (to a lesser extent) Stu Douglass making the offense work. The guy who will do that next year is...not obvious, to put it as happliy as possible.
Was Trey Burke obvious before this season started?
Yeah, obvious in the sense that he had "PG" listed next to his name.
...right now. With all respect to Eso Akunne, he just doesn't have the potential that Burke did coming into this past season. Amedeo Della Valle, who isn't even committed, is more of a two guard. Spike Albrecht, also not committed (or offered), is far more lightly regarded than was Burke.
Darius Morris's emergence was not exactly obvious, or else he wouldn't have been nicknamed "the Butterfly" for his metamorphosis into a star.
and long term it continues a troubling trend of key players leaving the program early: Udoh, Grady, LLP, Harris, Morris, Smote, Burke(?)
I like Belien a lot, and yes each of those cases are somewhat different but that is a disturbing trend and one where it is fair to ask if JB has a problem getting along with his players.
Why would a professor announce this in class? Would he announce this about an anonymous non-athlete?
Perhaps there was group work and his partners needed to know. The professor knows when someone drops and people are going to ask, I don't think it's a violation of Trey's trust for the prof to answer the students' questions. I can remember several occasions in college where kids have dropped and asking the professor, "hey, where's Jim been, is he coming back?" And having the prof answer me.
This wouldn't be a big deal to me, happens all the time with kids withdrawing and classmates wondering where he is. Some of these profs could care less who Trey Burke is too and he's just another student to them.
This just seems too hard to believe. Even if Trey was leaving early, wouldn't he still finish out the semester? There's like three weeks left
If Trey receives a late 2nd/not drafted grade and still decides to leave, is it possible he just is not happy at Michigan for some reason? Or does he/his family think it's a risk that he will not have a better season next year?
Ultimately, we all want what's best for him and what will make him happy. I do think our interests and his will align for another year and he'll be back.
Quad Robinson better stay. I'll cry like a little bitch if he leaves.
Should also add that one of the guys on the Rivals board has connections that are just as good (if not better) than Balas, Webb, etc. and he believes Burke is STAYING. Just saying...
There have been others on the board that have said otherwise, though. Conflicting reports. Choose what you want to believe (he's staying, duh), and wait it out...
At least he gets to collect a bunch of cool stamps on his passport.
Countries in Europe are small.
GD it! Thanks fo the instant headache.
My sisters friends cousins dad works with a guy who's son played softball with a guy who works at Crisler and he said he was in practice clothes. So there is that.
He must be gone bc I saw Trey show up in a Nissan 350Z to a team meeting...oh wait that was someone else...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but now that it's the offseason, don't all "practices" have to be unofficial (i.e., in street clothes)?
I'll be a sad panda if Burke leaves. I realize one player is not above the entire program, but he really is gonna be the linchpin in that offense that makes it go. ugh.
us as fans, and they also won a piece of the big 10.
I am calling my shot here.
1. He will announce he is leaving for the NBA
2. He wil NOT be drafted in either round
3. He will sign as a free agent with lottery team
4. He will NOT make the team
5. He wil spend the 2013 season playing somewhere in Europe
6,. He wil regret decison #1
1. Declare for NBA Draft
2. ???
3. Regret decision #1
Is all that worth taking a chance in the NBA? Just one more at year at Michigan man! Pls forward Mgrowold's post to Trey.
I wish I could +1 BISB's Nostradamus prediction
i am not in his shoes but i just don't understand why he would leave at this point. he is not physicially ready and next year should be a better year for him as he wouldn't have to shoulder so much of the load. we will have more scorers who can benefit from his pg skills. that should make him more attractive to nba scouts. does he believe he is better now than darius was at this point last year?
ive pretty much resigned myself to him leaving. which is a bummer man.
