Veiled TomVH reference in Dallas Morning News

This is yesterday's news, but a) I just read the paper and b) I searched and didn't see it posted, so I think I've satisfied the flow chart criteria. Anyway, note the reference to "a Michigan blogger." I have to believe the article author is referring to this post from TomVH:

I suppose more attribution than "a Michigan blogger" might have been nice, but at least it's good to see that at least some reporters still do a bit of research on their subject prior to writing an article.

The Freep did a ton of research for their story.  But that wasn't the issue.  What was the issue was that they manipulated, misrepresented, and vastly overstated the findings.  The media were originally intended to be conveyors of facts and truth, but the Freep had a particular agenda and said to hell with the truth in order to fulfill it.

"Michigan spent 30 min/week stretching beyond NCAA limits" does not make for a very compelling headline and would have rendered all the time spent researching the story pretty meaningless (and at a significant cost to the paper, which they would not have recouped by being honest).

The author is writing for 'The Dallas Morning News'...part of the old guard of national news circulations.  I'll give a shout out and mad respect to their Pulitzer Prize Winners but Corby's no prize winner...This wreaks.

Yeah, he feels it's beneath him to give credit or source.

The writer treats it like an old episode of L&O when Lenny Briscoe goes out on the street and shakes down an anonymous junkie for information about a murdered Wall Street executive who had a habit.

These newspaper writers are still completely, blitheringly, mind-bogglingly clueless about how much hard work and old-fashioned reporting TomVH and others like him put in. It's amazing how lazy and uninformed MSM reporters are, but I guess it's more important that they figure out where to go for lunch.

They are still reeling from the internet gaining steam. In another five years there will be hardly any print media left and it's simply because TomVH (and others in different markets) can provide the same or better services without the same overhead.

They'll learn their lesson when they're all looking for jobs provided by people like TomVH.
