Vegas: CMU -2 (What???)

Submitted by jtmc33 on

So, my off shore betting site (which I only view for entertainment purposes) has CMU -2 for tonight's GMAC. Last week, it was at CMU -3.5, then Monday it dropped to -3, Tuesday -2.

Maybe it's the "Michigan is the Greatest State in the Union" mindset, or my dispresepect for a Sun Belt team... but ... isn't CMU going to win this one by 14 points?

Troy is playing in Alabama. But besides that - CMU is a top 25 caliber team with a Senior star qb in his last game.

Help me not put my duaghters' college funds on CMU -2; because as of now I can't consider this anything but a lock -

Thoughts?

Has been atrocious in bowl games the last couple of years. This along with CMU's suspect D going against a pretty decent QB at Troy. I like the Chips, but its no lock.

CMU was not very impressive in the MAC championship game, and I believe Troy is on an 8 game winning streak. Also they are playing very close to home. Although I do expect CMU to win the game, if I were forced to make a bet, I would go with Troy.

Homer: You think we should bet against them?
Lisa: I'd bet my entire college fund on it.
Homer: You got it! Moe? Give me $23 on New York!

You don't want to do that, cause if you lose you're just driving your daughter right back to that no good Riggins. And trust me that never ends well.

When a line stinks, you should tend to bet against conventional wisdom (i.e., bet on Troy). I said the same thing in an old thread about how it was insane for LSU to be a huge underdog at home vs Florida and that LSU was a lock to at least cover, and I was lambasted and negged for saying it. Florida did cover in that game.

Wyoming managed to beat Fresno State. I thought that was more of a lock than this game.

Troy has an excellent shot at winning this game. There offense has really come on in the second half of the season and they're a strong football team. I refuse to bet on this game and I even picked a different winner in both of my bowl pick-um's. I have more confidence pts. invested in CMU at this point.

is all about the underdog. I realize in most years the dog covers more then the favorite in bowl games, but this season seems to be pushing that line. I've got the underdog going 21-11 in covering the spread so far.

FWIW, I really like CMU in this game too.

Bet it! If you lose, so what? Denise looks like she's doing pretty well at Taco Bell. Who needs college?

Seriousily though, it looks like CMU peaked early. Some sloppy end of the season play and a poor showing at the MAC Championship makes them far from a sure lock.

Who knows, they might have gotten their act cleaned up over the past month, or the month off could have made them even worse. Given what I saw from them late season i wouldn't bet any significant money on them.

I can't believe none of you tried to talk me out of putting all $39 on CMU -2. I thought we were friends...

EDIT: After being down 31-19... and 2OTs, CMU pulled it out by 3. So, all are forgiven. And now Madi and Morgan can pay for 1 book a piece when they are at college in 18-20 years.

When I looked at the line for CMU v Troy yesterday morning CMU was -2.5 favorite. I did not place my bet IMMEDIATELY, but checked some stuff on NBA and NCAAB games first. Fifteen minutes later, when I posted my bet, the line had shifted to CMU -3.5. I bet on CMU anyway, grumbling about how the line could have shifted that much in such a short time, but fairly confident that CMU would win by a TD and, well, you know the rest of the story.

That one point shift in fifteen minutes cost me $50.00...AAARRRRGGGHHHH!
