Valenti is actually worth listening to

He's currently ripping Izzo on 97.1 and saying that Beilein has passed him as a coach. I've got my popcorn ready.

Orton had better defenses with the Bears than Stafford had this year and was average at best.  The only time he got the Bears to the playoffs, he was benched at the end of the season.  His QB rating was the lowest in the league.  Stafford has better career numbers.  And for all the crap Stafford gets, his postseason numbers are better.  It's only two games, but it's two more than Orton.

He has thrown for 21,714, 131-85 TD-INT ratio, and completed 1,848 out of 3,099 passes. Those aren't great or elite  numbers, but they are solid. What also must be kept in mind is that he has played on some pretty awful teams and missed most of his first two seasons.

Does he need to get better? Absolutely., Stafford needs to make a jump next season. But he is a solid QB. Certainly the best I've seen as a Lions fan. That isn't saying much, but I'd rather have Stafford than not at this point. Unless there is another Luck out there I'm content with him for now.

the day I disowned the lions and became a packers fan was one of the best decisions i made in my life. There is nothing more depressing than a delusional lions believe they are going to win anything to brag about.

I will bet you 5000 mgopoints that Stafford never wins a playoff game in his career.

I watched a lot of Lions games this year and a lot of Bills games as well. Stafford is clearly better than Orton and if you think that's up for debate then you didn't watch any Bills games this year. Buffalo would've made the playoffs easily with Stafford at the helm. They were within sight of it with a great D and basically no offense.

Be careful what you wish for

and wrong statements written in a single thread.

The Lions problems this year was a poorus offensive line and a terrible offensive coordinator. Anyone who watched the games could see that Lombardi was overmatched.

Matt Stafford does not suck. He isn't great, but he does not suck. Sucking is Joey Harrington, Bob Gagliano,  Rusty Hilger, Rodney Peete, Scott Mitchell save for one year, Eric Hipple, Daunte Culpepper, etc, etc.

Someone who throws for 5,000 yards in a season doesn't suck.  Someone who throws a winning TD with no time left on the clock to win the game with a seperated shoulder does not suck.  Reggie Bush sucks.  Raiola sucks.  The rest of the O line sucks.  The secondary sucks.

You forgot:

- Gary Danielson

- John Witkowski

- Chuck Long

- Andre Ware

- Don Majkowski

- Mike McMahon

and passable (no pun intended) QBs who came to Detroit to die

- Joe Ferguson

- Frank Reich

- Jeff Garcia

- Jon Kitna

The only team worse for QB ineptness is Cleveland.

smh... I'll never understand the loyalty fans have for the Lions under Ford ownership.  Complete garbage for 57 years... and it's much more than Matt Millen; how easily people forget about Russ Thomas.

The Lions drove the best RB in the history of the game into an early retirement.

Oh really where is Stafford's QBR? Oh that's right he is right there with Eli and Cutler. He is complete garbage. Only delusional lions fans believe otherwise. Come back to me when Stafford wins a playoff game. Cause he will never win a playoff game. He has zero accuracy. He is wasting real receiver talent. Find another NFL team with a better 1-2 combo than Megatron and Tate. Stafford has all of the weapons, but he can't hit the ocean standing on the shore. He blows.

In classic Valenti. I wish he would replay his clips from 4 years ago where he referred to Coach B as a 1 trick pony with gimmick defense. Not worthy of being in the same floor with Lord Izzo. Yet a blow hard that will say anything to get idiots to call in.......

Izzo has over judged his recent recruits or hasn't coached them up much the past couple years. He over coaches like an NBA coaches who wish to be the star of the game - Along with Beilein, Bo Ryan does a nice job of letting is players play imo.

Valenti also said he doesn't want to hear Izzo crying about injuries. Where have we heard that before?

I love Valenti. He is hilarious and for the most part honest. While everyone was basically blowing Hoke a few years ago, Valenti was the only one that saw that Hoke was the most pathetic coach in the B1G.

He was completely right about Hoke. Yet every Michigan fan, myself including, was deluded by Hoke's anti-Ohio State bravado and This is Michigan for god's sake talk. Terry's point today, that Izzo is the basketball version of Hoke is the hammer hitting the nail. Izzo like Hoke is terrible at developing his athletes. Both are excellent recruiters, but suck at development.

I would much rather listen to Valenti than Ira on WTKA. There is a reason Ira is on AM radio.

Tom Izzo has been to 6 Final Fours, won a national title, and seven Big Ten titles. Comparing  Izzo to Hoke is like comparing Thomas Edison to an Orangutan. Tom Izzo is a legitimately great coach.

Many Michigan fans knew he wasn't good choice. I hated the hire and so did most of the denizens of this board-including Brian. So no, not every Michigan believed that Hoke was going to lead Michigan to the promised land.

Both he and Foster are terrible.

He disrespect all of his callers. Cuts them off if they disagree with him.

It's a rare occasion that you can listen to him for more than a minute. But it does happen.

He called the Harbaugh hire only because it would be the worst thing that could possibly happen to him as a Sparty.

i get tired of all the msu stuff. kind of little to much for me. i know he loves msu but enough is enough.  he does a good job sticking up or cutting down msu. that is the way to do it. the right way. just to much is to much.

Here are a couple Valenti oldie but goody's.

When Drew Brees became a free agent years ago. Valenti was calling people crazy for wanting the Lions to sign him. Saying that NO WAY you spend that kinda money on a QB coming off a year with an injured arm. Then a year later after he threw for about 4800 yards for the Saints. He was on the air, saying that "if they would have done what I wanted, and signed Brees" They would be in the playoffs. Me and my buddy at work still text in to remind him of that..

Then my favorite. When the Tigers traded Urbina to the Phillies for a guy named Polanco. He destroyed Dombrowski. Saying "why would you trade your best bullpen arm for a 2nd basemen that Philly doesnt even want?" Guess he didnt realize they had a kid named Utley coming up in the system. And yeah Urbina was out of baseball a couple years later after basically killing someone, and Polanco became one of the best 2b in baseball that few years.

Dude gets good ratings, but Stoney once had good ratings. The sports radio in Detroit is awful. Give me Karsh, Sam Webb and Dan Leach. Everyone else can go..

He's entertaining at least. What the difference between him and 90% of the slappy's here? Would you rather listen negative dicks like Eric Thomas or Rigor? Or dorks like Stoney and Caputo? Leach is a slappy but the dude is a nutt and makes me laugh. Probably a love or hate kinda guy. But my buddy works in the buisness and says that a lot of people think that Leach is the next big thing.
