Good luck to him, sucks for us. In a non-dickish way, have fun with that depth chart Valdez!
the kid has to have confidence in his own abilities, he can go in and think well, im not as highly recruited as some of the players in my own class and since this guy is a year or two older than me i'll never be as good as him while he's here. At florida he has a chance to compete for a national championship every year. how many florida players were drafted this year? it doesnt sound like a bad decision to me. and if he doesn't play or get drafted UF is still a perennial top 50 school
...we need cornerbacks? Playing time awaits!
That sucks! Maybe we're developing an anti-corner field?
I guess he doesn't want playing time.
While the position of CB is not good right now, why would any player look at our depth chart and say yeah that looks good? We have a Redshirt Sophmore and 3 true freshmen on the 3 deep and 2 cb's committed for next year.
Just because a position group is weak 1 year does not mean freshmen are looking at immediate playing time. We have like 20 safeties running around and people keep noting early playing time for that group as well next year.
There are no positions left on Michigan's roster open for early playing time just by showing up like we had the last 2 years. I'm not saying a true frosh can't come in and play, but to get any significant time next year they will have to be very special.
When looking for early playing time look for teams that are loaded with Seniors not a team playing soph and frosh's
"There are no positions left on Michigan's roster open for early playing time just by showing up like we had the last 2 years."
Fitzgerald, Demens, Jones, Bell, Ryan. they may not be the 76 Steelers but by next year you'll have 2 guys that have been training here for 4 years with 3 other young guys that have the jump on you, if you want play as a freshmen you still will have to be very very good.
Not one of those guys has (so far in his career) even played a game at a high level. Moundros leapfrogging them shows that even with another year of experience they haven't yet. There is nothing here that would scare off any excellent HS LB--yet. Let's hope that changes.
I think you made my point. An "excellent" LB might move up the depth chart, but guys aren't going to show up and move ahead of Seniors no matter what you think of them.
trumped me in the "that's what she said" department. +1
After our redshirt sophomore goes pro against advice, one of the freshmen transfer, and a lightning bolt hits the other in the nuts, there'll be plenty of playing time for him. He'll just have to watch out for dark clouds.
Yeah I forgot we had to account for half of them not making it back. It's like our secondary is storming Normandy. Good call.
Just a reminder to everyone as they melt down over this "loss" we only have space for 20 or so guys we can't get put the full court press on everyone 24/7. If they had a crystal ball and knew Turner wouldn't pan out and Showers would go from a nobody to stud with his blazing times, may be they would have taken a different approach, but you can't account for everything.
We have gone from self inflicted dong puches to lightning bolts to the nuts. Truely troubling time for Wolverines. It can only be up from here.
Juan Valdez showers commits to Florida.
As if Florida needed help recruiting from Columbian coffee farmers.
Your name was a wealth of funny t-shirts waiting to happen. I will mourn this loss.
What could have been: "Cox Showers Beavers"
although since Showers isn't coming, I guess it's a moot point.
Huyge is a redshirt junior. He can return in 2011 if he and the coaches want that to happen.
True, and based on the number of OT's we have on the roster (who won't be true frosh) I'm certain they will.
Also - I just looked at the other DB's that UF picked over over 2010 and 2011, and Showers will never see the field. He might win a national title, but he won't play on defense.
For some reason, I thought that we had a good shot at him. Good luck to him.
Really? I'm no recruiting expert, but based on what I've read here I was pretty sure Showers wasn't going to pick Michigan. I mean, when Michigan is "in" on a kid, there's usually chatter on this board about unofficial and official visits, several TomVH interviews, detailed information in the weekly recruiting updates, etc. There was very little of that with Showers, especially compared to guys like Dee Hart, Brennan Beyer, and Anthony Zettel--guys Michigan really seems to be interested in.
it was more of a gut feeling type of thing.
"I try not to think with my gut. If I'm serious about understanding the world, thinking with anything besides my brain, as tempting as that might be, is likely to get me into trouble."
What the Dr. said.
He didn't feel the love from coaches - TomVH
shit, man. really?
I hope that means they were concentrating on Walls and Crawford.
Well at least Dallas Crawford is still on the board... come on Crawford!!!!
We slow played this kid, plain and simple, and we paid for it. Woolfolk redshirting and coming back next year should help soften the blow a little. Landing Crawford and Walls has become much, much more important.
Michigan lead for Crawford and Walls. Crawford loves Michigan. If Michigan can land Crawford, they may have a fighting chance of landing Watkins assuming that he can qualify.
Exactly - we were likely not showing VS lot of love because we've got one spot left for a CB and we like Crawford more. It's always a gamble, but I like Crawford more too, so if he comes all is well.
hopefully us not landing him is more due to the coaches having some other guys lined up and that's why he wasn't feeling the love...
can we take in this class? One more? Maybe two? Get Crawford and all is well.
I worry that TW may not be 100% by next year and we are counting on him to much. I would feel better with even 3+ DB's this year.
Your inappropriate use of the English language is too much.
As am I, and we can use the English language however we want. Maybe you should thank him because it's still English that we get to slaughter...
(EDIT: Did that make me come off dickish? Sorry about the dickishness...)
Well I'm in the Air Force and serve my country and have deployed several times too. Thanks for your service, and the many other people that serve, but being a Marine doesn't have anything to do with that conversation.
Thank you for your service. I didn't mean to be a dick. But, your statement sounded disrespectful to a fellow Marine. You should know by now how we get about our fellow Marines...
Good luck to him, as he decided to go to a school that is on top. Michigan will find some good kids to come in and play DB.
Better Florida than MSU.
Now he can get an accredited degree.
i dont know what all the shock is about.
we still have some players out there in the secondary.
National Signing Day is a long way away, that is very telling. With a good season we can get some of these kids we want to rethink there recuirtment. The season is upon us,hope everybody is ready for the ride!!! Can't wait to watch us murder uconn.i advise that nobody drinks while watching the game, just smoke you one and enjoy.
While you're murdering our message boards why don't you give us an MGOCREEPER update on all your high school recruit facebook buddies.
Okay John...got it
Avery Walls all the way!
that rain showers only last an average of 15 minutes or so in Florida?
UM was late in offering Valdez and that upset him. This could really come back to hurt us. An in-state kid who really liked UM but got put off because they were so slow to act. I hope he becomes all SEC down there.
No one is ever happy. We either offer too many kids and 3* prospects with no other BCS offers commit or we don't because we are taking a chance with better* prospects on the board and guys like Showers commit elsewhere. What exactly do you want? It's not a precise science. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I'm sure we'll end up with a solid cornerback prospect this year, someone who the coaches are happy with, and on National Signing day no one will remember Valdez Showers.
*better in the eyes of the coaches who can properly evaluate prospects
