Vaguely OT: Sam Webb rips Valenti and Foster a new one

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

So someone called into the morning show, after having listened to the two latter guys show yesterday. And apparently they were going to town on the whole Turner thing (can't say, didn't listen). And someone called in to defend our honor, and brought up Sam Webb.  Who the hosts supposedly downgraded for being a slappy (toe-sucker was the phrase used), and the station's signal strength (which is bad...but really?!).

So Sam just tears apart the duo, and is particularly cruel towards Foster. Not unnecessarily, just particularly. If you're sick of those two, it's a lot of fun to listen to.  :-) (Though who knows if this is a start of a back and forth between shows).

Anyway, now the podcasts are up, for you to listen to for yourself.  Sam said he had to go listen to the other station's podcasts, to respond more, but since the show is almost up, it'll probably be tomorrow.

But for today's fun-

9a - Sam responds to attack on Detroit sports radio 081210

9b - Sam responds to attack on Detroit sports radio 081210

Enjoy!

Good for him.  Those two slappys deserve to have somebody call them out.

I'm sure they'll have something to day today, and start pulling the "We're on a big powerful Detroit FM station, you're on a lowly Ann Arbor AM station." crap because they got nothing else.

EDIT: The best part about the podcast is hearing Sam's text messages blow up while he's ranting...  haha.  I want a Valenti v Sam show down on a neutral station.

Foster and Valenti attacked his credibility. He can't let that go. Especially coming from these two guys. Foster who the News thought so much of, took away his column and gave it to Rob Parker. He now has a blog where he writes about flowers or something. Valenti has no credibility. He is a Spartan fan with a radio show.

Valenti and Foster who host Spartan Drive Time, have no business bringing Sam's credibility into question... especially when they have none of their own. Good for Sam.

Loved it yesterday when Valenti was yelling at a caller that J. Forcier left UM in 2009, totally calling it another transfer due to RR....um didn't he leave the program in Jan 2007??

Sam Webb is never OT.  I'm surprised any UM fans even call those two idiots knowing that they're are going to crap on callers who go against their opinions.  Just stop calling.  You don't have to stop listening, but the call volume is what makes that show.  Just stop, there would be nothing better than a blank call board after one of Valenti's rants on UM save for the Sparty calls that are going to agree with him.

No tinfoil needed, I can almost assure you that 97.1 callers are almost always 5 FAKES out of 5 when it comes to whom they claim to be a fan of.

So many spartys that call into that thing and claim to be wolverines.  Even some wolverines who call in claiming to be spartys.

And lap boy Matt Derry screening out any semi-intelligent Wolverines calling in to put down anything that emperor Valenti spits out as truth.

No one could have said it better. Valenti is just a shock-jock, Sparty blow hard and Foster is his little puppet.

What makes me even more mad is the idiotic "Michigan fans" that the call screeners let into that show. They're basically just a less educated version of Valenti and they agree with whatever he says. I am yet to hear an educated Michigan fan get into a real discussion with them on that show.

Called Foster "minstrel" and "steppin' fetchin'"

Them's some fightin' words!

Hilarious. (Though I don't know exactly what V and F said. The only time I listen to that station is for live sports -- Tigers/Red Wings.)

Something funny I just learned yesterday. I was driving past East Lansing on I-96, and 97.1 and 1210 that broadcast Valenti and Foster barely comes in there. It's almost like magic, within 5 minutes of EL, it gets too crackily to listen to. So as much as Valenti is a Sparty slappy, no one in EL can hear him.

Just thought I'd share.

That was some hilarious stuff, pulling out the steppin fetchin' was priceless.

Let me first state that I don't get 1050 very well where I live, so I listen to 97.1.  Valenti is actually a very knowledgable sports host.  Yes, he is biased towards State.  He should be.  He even admits it.  No different than Sam is.  The thing that makes 97.1 so tough to listen to is how the station is set up and then Terry Foster.  Matt Dairy can decide which calls to put on and he is tight with Valenti, so he serves up softballs.  Then, on top of it, whenever there is a good discussion with points being made against Valenti, the caller gets dropped and the can't come back to support himself.  Terry Foster is useless.  When he is hosting solo, I literally have to turn it off.  He is useless.  What actually would be good radio is if Valenti and Webb hosted something together.  It would be fun and they both would be put in their place when something biased was brought up.

I think Valenti knows his sports better than most.  He understands the CBA's and how trades and drafts can work for the respective professional teams.  He understands college football strategies, players and coaches.  Does he know it as well as Brian, no.  Does he know it better than most of his callers, yes.  I am not saying he is the greatest host ever, but he is not as stupid as most on here make him out to be.  He just tries to take the stance that he is as critical of MSU as he is UofM and that is simply not true.  I think if he had someone on his show that didn't stay on his knees the whole time and confronted him on outlandish comments towards Michigan, he would be much better.  Right now, he has free reign because Foster is such a bumbling idiot.  I would imagine Valenti would tell you the same thing.

He may be knowledgable, but he plays the asshat fan radio host very well.  He talks very shallow.  He skims the surface of his topics and anytime anyone tries to go deeper that what he can read on the internet, he shuts them down.  His schtick isn't intelligence, it's shock.  I can treat my callers worse than anybody else.  Don't fall for his routine, he doesn't allow anybody with good points to come on.

BTW - They are entertaining, but not knowledgable.

Honorable mention to the tearing into given to Matt Dery. I used to not mind Dery so much, but his Ohio roots seem to be coming through more lately, and his updates seems to relish in taking shots at Michigan.

was the guy who claimed to be a life-long Michigan fan but was questioning whether Barwis had lived up to the hype.  Valenti and Foster gladly hopped on that train.  Overrated.  Michigan was out of shape and sucking gas in the 4th quarter against Wisconsin (at least Foster was willing to allow that this could have been due to a lack of depth).  Do either of these guys read Foster's own paper which had an article on Mealer and Barwis' work with the young man?  How could a "life-long Michigan fan" have missed that inspirational and important story?

I just love that man.  He's so smart and always gives it to UM straight hardcore.  If he says we'll win the Big Ten this year, then I believe him.  Big Ten Champs 2010.  Go Blue!

As awesome as it is that somebody is standing up to the retardery of Valenti and Foster, it just doesn't matter -- if anything, it only adds fuel to the fire.  Stupid asshole sports-talk radio hosts aren't paid to be accurate or consistent, they're paid to get people to listen any way they can.  Probably why the majority of local sports-talk guys seem to have come from MSU -- they're not held back by things like logic, intelligence or dignity.

As long as Valenti and Foster never say anything egregiously racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory, they'll never go away (unless they get hired by ESPN).  The only way to shut people like them up is for us to win -- which is unfortunately completely out of our control.

According to Valenti: "Here is the list of players who have left under Rich Rodriguez":

Dan O’Neil, Justin Boren, Ryan Mallet, Adrian Arrington, Manningham, Debenedictus, Gallamore, Coola, Mitchell, Brown, Patilla, Slocum, Taylor hill, Clemens, Croswell, Threet, Schaefer, Mcguffie, Horn, Butler, Chambers, Smith, Cissoko, Martin, Forcier (Jason.. in '09 summer practice), Evans

Can anybody attest to which ones didn't transfer?  Cissoko didn't "leave under RR", he was kicked off; didn't Mallet leave before a single practice with Rodriguez?; Manningham didn't transfer out; the list (of inaccuracies) goes on...

Here's the podcast for those who haven't heard it:

I was being serious... does anybody know off the top of their head know which of these guys didn't transfer, but rather didn't qualify to be on the team or were kicked off, etc. ?

Well, off the top of my head, O'Neil was academically ineligible at the time he transferred, so I don't know if that can count.  And Schaefer was fired as the DC, so he didn't transfer and he isn't a player.  Both Arrington and Manningham declared for the NFL draft, so I don't think they can be counted as transferring out.

I read all the comments prior to listening to the podcasts...I expected it to be good but that exceeded my expectations.  I assumed Sam had time to think about it, but that was straight off the cuff.  Awesome.

While he was with DFN, he ripped Valenti all the time. I remember one Piston's post game, where he just shredded Valenti. He said, "You never see the guy in the locker room. What credibility does he have?"

Now Dery is Valenti's pal. I guess it's not that hard to switch allegiances in radio... even for somebody that you didn't respect before.

Yeah, about 8 years ago, when I was a senior at U of M, I was trying to break into sports tv/radio, and actually got introduced to Matt Derry, and had an interview with him, and he liked my tape, etc, and we discussed me going to work for WDFN, but I ended up following a different path.  I actually thought he seemed like a solid guy, and, in all honesty, he probably has to put up with Valenti, so he might as well try to find common ground with him. You don't get to pick who you work with usually.

I was going to call in to the show this aftenoon, but realized that's probably what they want. So hopefully the people who do call in are well-reasoned mgobloggers who don't come off as one of those dumbasses who proclaim themselves to be a "life long Michigan fan", as was the caller yesterday.

Sam Webb!!  Its great to hear someone rip into those 2 ass-wipes. How any Michigan fan listens to that puke Valenti is just beyond me. I can actually feel my brain cells dying off as i listen to that dreck.

As for Foster....its really pathetic how he does just sit there and let Valenti pretty much tell him how to think.  I used to like Foster.....now i have zero respect for him as he sits there like a moron with no objectivity and seemingly unable to counter the obvious mis-information and crap that the other spews.

I quit listening to that show months ago.  I hope the majority of M fans do the same.

The current afternoon sports radio shows in Detroit are just brutal.  Your choices are Valenti on one station or Drew Sharp on the other...WTF?  I honestly dont think you could pick two people I want to listen to less than these guys.  And it goes way behind the generic UM hate, I just cant stand the constant negativity on every freaking subject.  I am not saying you have to have rose colored glasses regarding Michigan sports, but how about giving us something positive once in a while, just for the hell of it.  Stony and Wojo were slowly declining over the years, but dear lord I miss them now, I miss anyone who could show me both sides of Detroit sports not just the constant negatives, how does anyone listen to this stuff?

Hearing Sam go ballistic on those 2 was the highlight of my week. The Detroit media has to be the most brutal in the nation in regards to treatment of a major program. I've been waiting for a response like that from someone for a long time. He speaks for me and many others I'm certain. It was pent-up for sure but very appropriate. Won't change anything but finally someone spoke up in a big way. I love it.

http://wxyt.cbslocal.com/2010/08/11/valenti-and-foster-caller-jason-que…

Credibility, for Valenti, apparently means logging into RCMB and reading off their laundry list of people who have been "Rodriguez'd." Maybe if he did his own research instead of leeching off biased MSU fans, he wouldn't have been caught reading off names including a football coach, NFL draft picks, players who didn't academically qualify and a handful of players who transferred due to personal issues. Credibility, apparently, means using other people's half-assed efforts to back a point and then scream at the top of your lungs HE QUIT DURING SUMMER PRACTICE when, you know, the NCAA didn't let him.

At least Sam Webb does his homework himself you big prick.

I've always felt Terry Foster, with his close Michigan Mafia connections, has his finger firmly on the pulse of Michigan athletics.

I mean, let's cut the guy a little bit of a break here ... did he not totally nail it when he reported DeShawn Sims was probably leaving for the NBA after this past season?

LOL valenti just referred to my email on the air. What a freaking tard. I basically took his quote about the players transferring and wrote out a nice little treatise that showed how ignorant he is. Of course he rips my email on the air for being too long. Obviously he didn't read it. Hell I ripped him for referring to Schaefer as a player and saying Jason Forcier transferred under Rich.

I don't know what I want out of it...I just need to rip Valenti a new asshole.
