Vada is home from the hospital & resting comfortably.  He has finished radiation treatments to the brain & is undergoing treatments to his spine & pelvic bone.  Radiation makes Vada very tired.  I am still limiting visitors & will let you know when this changes.

We have never, ever, in our lives felt so scared.  We also have never felt so loved.  Thank you for the cards, emails, text messages, phone calls & messages on this website; thank you for your continued expressions of love & support.  Thank you to the Ann Arbor Police Department for their unwavering love.  They give true meaning to the phrase, "Whatever you need, whenever you need it." Thank you for understanding if we don't personally return your message.  We both want you to know, we love you back.

When I came to games as a kid with my grand parents I remember Murray and Welbourne fondly.  Their famous leap on every place kick adorns a spot in my Michigan themed basement.  This was probably the last time Michigan had two above average safeties at the same time.

I also remember having Murray bust up some house parties I was attending during college.

I remember he was one of our best safeties of the 1980's - and later years for that matter.  He was probably the best kick-blocker we've had since I started watching Michigan football in the mid 70's.  He could leap with the best of them.  It's sad to see him in his current situation, but I'll be praying for him and his family.  Hang tough Vada!

please accept a few more.  Sorry I didn't read the previous post about Vada's condition until a day after Desmond Howard spoke to the NYC alumni club.  He was very generous with his time, and spoke so highly of his time at Michigan and with great affection regarding his teammates, including the intense-but-friendly practice competition against the secondary.  I don't know if Howard knew about Vada's status at the time-- I get the feeling from what he said that if he did know, he would have said something-- but I assume he does by now.

Just googled and read that Howard was coach and Murray captain of the "Maize" team at last spring's alumni game.  (Phil Brabbs was captain of the other team, coached by LaMarr Woodley.)  Hope both Phil and Vada can be given the honor in spring games to come.

Man, Vada and Tripp were a blast to watch. The best safety tandem Michigan ever had!

When I was in undergrad, Vada def broke up at least 5 house parties I was at. Strong presence, but def not a jerk about it.

Long Live Vada!

Our prayers are with you man.

is a leader and a champion. He was not before my time but was relevant during a time after I was in college. No Michigan player will ever be beyond my time as long as I have breath and the ability to remember.

God bless the Murray family for their spirit, determination to live and to love.
