From MGoBlue release-

The University of Michigan Athletic Department in conjunction with Penn State University, television partner ESPN and the Big Ten Conference have announced that the Oct. 11 football game at Michigan Stadium will be televised in primetime. The conference game will be played at 7 p.m. EDT, and televised nationally on either ESPN or ESPN2.

This will be the third night game in the history of Michigan Stadium and the first against a Big Ten Conference opponent. The previous two primetime contests came against Notre Dame in 2011 and 2013, both victories for the Wolverines.

ESPN also televised Michigan's first two home night games, generating large audiences for both. ESPN averaged 8,653,000 viewers (a 5.3 HH US rating) for the 2013 telecast and 7,541,000 viewers (a 4.5 HH US rating) for the 2011 matchup.

"The night game atmosphere created by our fans has been electric and we expect that same type of energy for our first-ever conference night game against Penn State," said Brady Hoke, the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. "Our players really enjoy playing in primetime at Michigan Stadium."

This is the second night game that has been announced for the 2014 season. Michigan will play the final game in the long-standing series with Notre Dame on Sept. 6 in primetime. The game between the two winningest programs in college football will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EDT from Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

Additional primetime games can be designated during the early selection process by the networks

Per Angelique Chengelis' story in the Detroit News, this game will either be on ESPN or ESPN2 at 7 PM on October 11th, which probably would be the expected undercard to this news, I would think.

Either way, it seems like the players definitely like playing in primetime, although I do wonder if this one might be a little closer to a more standard sort of affair than the show that was had for both Notre Dame games. Of course, this merely being a night game does add a little "zing", if you will, to an otherwise "meh" home slate this coming season.

Why do we feel the need to continue marketing these night games as some big deal? Every school has night games yet we have to pretend it's something special. I get 2011 because it was the first, but it's getting cheesy.

I also don't see any problem making a big deal out of it.

Just stop fucking around with the goddamned fucking uniforms.

You didn't see this nugget from the AD's press second press release?

Michigan is excited to announced the introduction of TurboBright (TM) uniforms with a patent-pending LED light system integrated into the stitching of both jerseys and pants.  Michigan will be the first team to provide in-game lighting on the bodies of the student athletes themselves.

Cool, now if I need to recoup some loot for my season tickets there's at least one game where I might actually be able to get face value.

So far, no press release from Michigan has called this UTL III. Like another poster said. "don't turn this into Wrestlemania #3 and Marshall Mathers BS.

I agree. I'm open to changing up the away look.  I'm fine with white/blue pants for away games but the brand identity with the helmet and traditional home jerseys (Maize numbers on solid blue jersey, with maize pants) should be above tinkering.

Do you think mentioning the full name of the position in official press releases is a stipulation of the Harris family donation or just the AD tipping their hat to the donation, i.e. knowing where their bread is buttered? If the AD is going to sell the naming rights might as well make everyone in the media say or write it. Does Hoke have to include the Harris family name when he introduces himself to recruits?

And will they do that for the assistant coaches when they're quoted, too? If I ever see Roy Manning, the "DB worthless sellout prick scum sucking money grubbing Cornerbacks Coach" in print like that...I am just gonna snap.

Don't forget that all that razamatazz is pointed in the direction of recruiting too.  A lot of the "bling" stuff, night game and facility like the wood paneled laser etched gameday locker room, I think is designed to compete with other high-earning programs who also try to make recruits go "wow".

with a win giving us momentum in the B1G season.  We'll be hitting our stride on both sides of the ball by then.  The crowd will be on fire with our (hopefully scheduled) Maize out.  Hoke doesn't lose at home.  Should be great.

Hey, I noticed this news was posted twice.  Must be a special announcement!

Slightly OT I know, but since I've moved back to Michigan I've seriously considered cutting the cable and going with a digital HD antenna. The only cable channels I ever watch are the espn's.
I'm wondering if since the game is on"national television", will local ABC channels still carry the game?
I'm sure this has been covered before, I'm just too lazy to google.

Why are people acting like Michigan had anything to do with Eminem being at the game last year? He was there to promote his album to the TV audience. It's not like anyone at the game even knew Eminem was there. Highly doubt Brandon had anything to do with his being there.

The Beyonce thing was Michigan's doing, though.

Stop with the "UTL"s now? If a night game is going to be an annual thing, it's not really that much of a special event anymore.

I think this is a good choice though, considering it's, ya know, the only home game that doesn't totally suck--and I want revenge for being in their stadium for that debacle last year for what seemed like 5 hours after it got dark.
