Devin Gardner is already becoming one of my favorite players ever.  In my fandom (I started watching us seriously in the early '90s) I've never seen us have a QB like this, a true dual-threat.  I don't mean that as a knock on Denard or any of the passing QBs, but Gardner is incredible how he's a hugely dangerous playmaker in both ways.  Keep him in the pocket and he burns you with his rocket arm.  Drop eight into coverage and he's off to the races.

Some halftime numbers:

Michigan 268 total yards, 180 passing and 88 rushing. Devin Gardner is 13-20 and managing about 9.0 YPA, and we're getting about 5.2 YPC on the ground. We're getting 4.86 yards per snap on average.

Notre Dame has picked up 199 yards, 146 passing and 53 rushing. Tommy Rees is 11-25 and getting about 5.8 YPA to their 4.8 YPC on the ground. They have run fewer plays than us, so the division works out to 5.53 yards per offensive snap on average.

My one beef is the lack of pressure.  They have to get in his face.

This is why UM needs Hand so badly. No pressure from the front four. It appears that the Clakr hype was mere rhetoric.

Akron beat James Madison - I'm actually mildly surprised.  Also, Navy held on against Indiana.  So much for all those points in week one.  Gotta play D at some point to truly turn the corner as a program.

So Rees is 11-25?  It feels like he's 20-25.  Maybe we're doing better than it feels like.  I think he has at least one more big mistake in him if we keep this lead and force them to become one dimensional in the fourth Q

Things are looking good so far, but man do we need to get some pressure on the QB. Rees has had a ton of time in the pocket, and its clear in this game how much we need JMFR back as soon as possible.

I hope Hand takes a look at this game tonight and sees that he can come in and make a huge contribution right from the get go. Boy we'd need him.

All in all, though, great game so far. Gardner is looking great, so is Gallon. Just need to step on their throats to start the second half and crush their spirit. Norfleet, take it to the house.

pretty evident after 3 years with 1 sack (i believe) that beyer is NOT a pass rusher.  i get it that he plays sound assignment football and mattison can rely on him to maintain scheme integrity.  and im sure hes a hard worker and other such UM valued superlatives.  but the dude is just not an elite athlete (not that um has many upperclassmen elite athletes on DL)... solid player, sure, but impact player, no.  itd be nice to see some other guys get a shot at putting their hand in the dirt and rushing the passer.  they cant possibly do worse than the standard beyer bull rush stalemate.  outstanding first half by gardner - great decisons, crisp throws, heck of an athlete - that cat definitely came to play tonight

Anyone have any updates on the recruits there, namely Mr. Hand? Really impressed with gorgeous Borges this half, I'm even more excited to see what Poppa Bear Mattison dials up in the second half, especially if we score on this drive and force them to become more one dimensional.
