wasnt very good, not at all. uM was worst, but Utah's Offense struggled and never found a rhythm. uM's garbage time TD may make a few folks feel like the excuses they offer are valid, but they are not. The D was stout, and smith is a tank, but UM could easily lose 6-8 games this year. Compared to the TCU vs. Minn. game this game looked like High School

Overall OL was mixed.  Pass protect was generally excellent vs a stunting, aggressive D.  run block was for shit.   Disgusted a bunch of upperclassmen OL (+ Cole) are not at least mediocre at run block esp with the "improvement" they had late last year.  It apears that improvement was Drake Johnson, not the OL.

rudock was bad for a 5th year sr.  INT 1 I am guessing was on Perry for the bad route but INT 2 and 3 on Jake and his long passes were putrid.  He has 3 INTs after 5 last year and the worry about why Iowa was so conservative with him is that he is this.  I have to imagine he is not this bad.  If he was just meh it would have been a game decided at last moment.

run game stunk.  It is what it is.  We cant run block and we dont have great runners.  Smith bless his heart works hard and with a good run blocking OL would get 4+ yds per carry - dude falls forward 1 yard every play but had 2 guys at the LOS almost every play.

Main positive was Butt and Darboh.  Also Darboh and Chesson got over the top of Utah newbie corners.  But rudock struggled with anything over 20 yards.  I hope it was a wind issue to a degree.

What is sad is this is not a young offense.  Aside from Perry and Cole all the contributors are 3+ years in college football.  Jake's struggles really sucked because the OL gave him time.  He just needs to be better because our run game is a project and if we cant pass to open the run we have a lot of issues.

Pass blocking looked great sans Ty.

Don't give up on Rudock, he'll be ok.

Smith had more broken tackles than yards. I think his pass blocking won him the starting spot though.

WRs impressed, even Perry. he was part of the three INTs, but he threw some monster blocks.

We may need to look at Higdon.

He went 7/19 for 49 yards. People who want Jake benched are crazy. I saw him make several great throws to move the chains. Without him, this team would've gained less than 150 yards. He missed some big plays but give me a break.

I think Harbaugh can play better at his age than Rudock. Smith is not good. That was an excellent 2 minute drill at the end. Wish they would have done that earlier. Perry will improve. He is good, but he is too Green. Needs time.

Butt is the real deal. WRs are not bad at all.

Good improvement. I am proud of the team. I think they fought till the end. We beat ourselves.

Need another TE. If AJ is the 2nd best TE, we are in trouble.

Overall, I am encouraged. I am actually positive that they have a good shot at going 3-1.

Decent team and has room to improve.

I'm sure Smith is tough and tries really hard in practice, but he needs to not play. He has no burst, no elusiveness, and no vision. He just absolutely kills our entire offensive strategy. Same as last year.

I'm no longer concerned about the WRs and TEs. Not overly concerned about the backs because when Drake Johnson comes back he'll be able to hit the hole. A tad concerned about Rudock's timing but it's not like there's a viable plan B.

Three picks, two touchdowns blown. Rudock cost us the game. He was supposed to insure competence. What a joke.

It would have been very easy to believe the offense was being coached by Hoke and quarterbacked by Gardner.

Missed a lot of open lanes. He lacks vision... They need Green in there or Isaac... If he was healthy, I think Johnson would of done some work tonight!

What have you seen frrom Green outside of games vs baby seals that says he needs to be in? He falls over if you breath on him.  He gets yards vs the App States of the world then when real teams show up he has a 3 ypc.  No diff than Smith.  The staff sees these guys every day and they put in ross frigging Douglas ahead of Green.

Definitely hurt the offense, can't whitewash that. At the same time, he was hitting the short/intermediate passes with general consistency, and I do not think Shane would have hit the same throws in and out. As bad as Rudock was, that's the best QB play I've seen from a UM QB since...I don't know when. OL looked good in pass pro, struggled in run blocking. Need to improve that. I liked Smith's ability to bounce off the first contact. Definitely needs to improve his vision/awareness. I see why Perry has been getting hyped. Some great blocks on screen plays, showed good hands on that last drive. Some boneheaded mistakes (I think the first INT was on him), but he's a true freshman. Bright future for him. Butt was awesome. As expected. Darboh looked very good, better than I expected. Excited for him.

We need more speed and vision at RB. Rudock is meh. Line looked good. They have some work to do but I think I see improvement. I'm so fucking sick of seeing this team fart away games.

Please explain to me why football teams are better inside 2 minutes when it's do or die? why do we pussy foot around on offense all game and then turn it on toward the end. I don't get it.

Rudock wasn't as bad as the interceptions make him look, but damn he has a weak arm. His passes really float.

Which means he throws roughly three times harder than Russell Bellomy.

First game in a new system. I'll give you the 2 over throws, however I think 2'of the picks were on Perry. I thought Jake showed some flashes tonight, especially for Zero and I mean zero running game. He will
Be fine.

Ok, people are saying 2 of the picks are on Perry. Multiple people.

And it's absurd. The first one pretty obviously was Perry's fault; pick two was wildly overthrown. On pick three Perry ran the correct route and Rudock threw it right in his direction... Ignoring the defender who jumped the route. That was a fine route that was covered. Rudock cannot make that throw.

People must think that Perry should have, in a split second, seen the defender, change his route, and bent back toward the LOS (away from the line to gain). That's ridiculous.

First game jitters. Let this team grow. Rudock will settle in with time. Smith has field vision problems which irritated me... All in all, I'll take this loss. Like an above poster pointed out, with Hoke this would have been a slaughter. I have an odd, proud sense of confidence and security after this game. We'll be alright. Now, irrational "we suck" posts commence.

We need Drake Johnson in there badly. Smith is what he is. A plugger, not a dynamic game breaker. OL STILL can manhandle anybody. This group is soft, and will always be soft....

And a stunningly bad performance from a seasoned QB. He was a disaster from the get go. He looked good in the 4th quarter though.
