USC vs CAL

Attendance pathetic at Coliseum for the game tonight. It must be great walking out of the tunnel and looking at nothing. Except for empty seats. Oh but the cheerleaders look great.

If you think that's bad, look at Cincy-ECU on ESPN2.

Pretty sure I played in front of a larger crowd than that back in junior high.

Had about 500 people in attendance last night during its game against Kent St. Cold weather and mid-week scheduling doesn't make crowd flock to watch meh football. But hey, BG did win the MAC East title and will be headed to the MAC Championship for the second straight year. So there's that..

his wife is from nearby and her parents were/are elderly and in need of care

plus Cincy is still the biggest contender for Big 12 expansion and overpaid for Tubbs in an effort to show the conference that they're a serious football school... same reason they're expanding their stadium and playing in Paul Brown this year.

While I know that USC was at one point the dominant recruiting team nationally in the Carroll years, I've always wondered why they, UCLA and for that matter Cal aren't consistently more elite (meaining top 5 not just top 20) in recruiting.  If i were an 18 five star and wasn't going to a school close to home or some place I'd cheered for growing up  LA would seem pretty appealing.  I suspect that one thing that the south and to an extent the midwest have to offer is better fan support.  While Michigan is enjoying the crowds we like if USC were 5-5 they probably draw 40,000 or less.  I suspect that most of the southern schools fill their stadiums even in down years.

USC does recruit at an elite level and has post P.C.  I do believe they have had some sanctions.  Last 4 classes are 10, 8, 13, and 4.  Outside of Bama that is as good as anyone in the country right up with Texas OSU UF FSU levels.

UCLA does not for whatever reasons.  I always thought UCLA is a lot like Illinois in football in that it is underachieving for what it should be.

Their average star per player for 2015 so far is 2nd.  Last year despite the coaching change mid season their average star per player ranked 5th.

Check this out, their average star per player in 2013 was 1st and it wasn't even close.  It was 4.42!!!!!!!  In 2012 their average star per player was also 1st at 4.07.

The sanctions is what has kept them from having higher ranked classes.  In 2012 they only had 15 recruits and in 2013 they only had 12.  Even in 2014 they only had 19.

It's amazing how hard the NCAA hit USC but yet other programs have barely gotten a slap on the wrist.

For UCLA right now, recruiting is getting better but they had BAD head coaches after Toledo was fired. Consistent dominance by USC is so imprinted on recruits minds that UCLA continually faces uphill battles and the damage will take years to fix. While for Michigan it's not as bad, it's getting there and is why this hire has to go right.

21-2 that's not a score you see everyday... meanwhile if anyone's curious the Sixers tankathon in the NBA is taking great strides tonight as they are down 75-29 at HALFTIME...

Did anyone else see that stat that USC is starting 3 freshmen on the O-Line tonight, not bad for a team that is 6-3!  Which leads us back to why the hell does Darrel Funk still have a job here!

Cal nearly had a good thing possibly going with that interception, but Cal also knows who they are any promptly coughed that one up. If nothing else, the flow of this game was only momentarily disrupted by an ill-timed throw from Kessler. Cal will still have that safety to look upon and remember fondly.

I live in LA.  I went to this game.

Game started at 6pm on a Thursday to make ESPN 9pm EST.  No shit the stadium was half filled.  People still filing in to make an EARLY start time.  I was standing outside at 6:10 still chugging beers.  I jammed in 3 hours of tailgaiting from 5;30 - 6:15. BFD.  Game Should be 8pm; fuck east coast.   Like to see who shows up in Ann Arbor for a Thursday 6pm game.  Yes, stupid to schedule it anyway. But Stupid of you to make a point of it without thinking what the hell was happening there.

Seeing a game at the Colliseum is like stepping back in time.  The stadium is old as the city of LA had control of it till recently.  But it is nice to actually go and watch a game without all the bullshit distractions DBrandon style.  What a total LOSER.

By half time score was 31-9.  I'd like to see UM up 31-9 on BIG 10 teams at half time.

With USC you never get the feeling that they suck or that the bottom is going to drop out.  Always a feeling like they are bad asses.  Like when UM was like that.  We need to get there again.  Peppers is the start of that.  Don't recruit pussies.

ONE BIG POINT.  USC does NOT PIPE IN music over the band.  They let the band play through out the game and it is fine and dandy.  They understand this is COLLEGE and it is great.  Never heard White Stripes shit music once!  Only time they play that PIPED IN music is when the band is running downstairs for the half time show.  SCREW the piped in music.  LET THE BAND PLAY.

UM could learn a lot from USC: play tough, be bad asses, win games and let the band play.
