USA vs Mexico soccer
There's a friendly match between USA and Mexico tonight at Mexico 8pm espn2. The US all time is winless in Mexico. I say its time for a change and a win tonight. No dempsey or bradley tonight but will have donovan. More younger guys for Klinesman squad tonight. GO USA!

For the love of God, please play Joe Corona.

I'm honestly hoping that Klinsman goes with an entirely youthful lineup, even leaving out Donovan. I want to see guys like Corona, as well as Fabian Johnson and Zusi. This game seems like its a changing of the guard, almost, for the older guys to make way for the young guns. Hopefully Shea plays well, he seems to only really show up for half of the games he plays. Looking forward to this match, though I don't have much faith in the ability for us to win tonight. Mexico is going to play a lot of first teamers, while we simply aren't. Here's hoping we can keep it close.

has never done anything internationally. He has no breakaway speed, a meh shot, and the only thing he really possesses is an aptitude for putting the ball in the back of the net against equal competition. I'd rather see Gomez or Boyd up top. Boyd is the big imposing presence in the middle needed for the wide system we play. The thing is though, we need to control the ball and pick the right pass or we'll get burned with how inept our defense has been. Plainly said we have a slim chance to win today and have to hope for plenty of mistakes on the other side.

Not really surprised to see Ponitus left off the roster. There are too many players better than him in the midfield for him to get called up.

We're not that bad =(

I can't get over how insanely long/busy the season is for pro soccer players. If Mexico makes any of its three overage Olympic players play in this, that's just being cruel.
August 15th, 2012 at 5:08 PM ^
Joe Corona is the future of the US midfield.
sidenote: first post since all my points were stolen from me.
August 15th, 2012 at 5:32 PM ^
Uphill battle. None of the Euro guys outside Timmy Howard are playing. Mostly MLS guys/guys playing in the Americas.

Is there a posted roster anywhere?

It's always seemed odd to me that coaches regularly call up three goalkeepers for one friendly.
August 15th, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
I don't know why, but I've always been mad that Beckerman has played so much. I felt the same way about Ricardo Clark. They just feel like the Obi Ezehs out there.
August 15th, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
I am more upset when Ricardo Clark is on the field than when Beckerman is. I don't think Beckerman is any better than Clark, but he seems to know his own limitaitons better.
Ricardo Clark seems to think he can pass the ball THROUGH the legs of opposing attackers, which occasionally leads to goals that knock the US out of World Cup competitions....not that I'm bitter or anything.

Like Tony Gibson: Rich Rod... Ricardo Clark makes me go

I thought that was a joke when my friend told me that he got called up. I would rather see younger guys like Bunbery or Aguadelo get a chance.
It would have been nice to have Jozy on this roster too. He just scored a brace for his club team couple days ago.

Azteca is a hell-hole, the Mexican fans are brutal, and all I ask for is no injuries and no hooliganism on our part.
Mexico 3 - 1 USA (if we're lucky)

callin' it. Tough row to hoe.

Well it seems that the idiot who like to down vote soccer threads is back. I accidentally upvoted the "viva mexico" post when I went to up vote every post in this thread. Damnit.

It is worth it. I can't really help you with the seating or anything, since I have never been to that stadium.
The good thing about Columbus is that it is a soocer-specific stadium so you wont see the football yeard lines or feel like the pitch is out of place. If you want to sit with the "American Outlaws" or "Sam's Army" guys take a look at their websites.

Interesting line up. I don't like it, too many D Mids in the fold. That and Boyd should be out there starting in a 4-3-3.
USA has literally nothing to lose in this match, why not go for it all?
August 15th, 2012 at 7:23 PM ^
Because European footy is about to start, so our best players (Dempsey, Bradley, Altidore, Boyd, Bocanegra, Dolo, Tim Ream) are not available.
I agree that we should give some more exciting players a shot, like Luis Gil, but our roster for this game is from a limited player pool.
August 15th, 2012 at 7:25 PM ^
Hopefully the US team will execute Klinsmann's game plan and keep their heads in the game for 90 minutes. I expect them to lose given their track record in Mexico and the absence of so many first-choice starters, but I'll be disappointed if they panic, lose their cool, or mentally check out of the game at any point.
August 15th, 2012 at 7:44 PM ^
Well, no Joe Corona starting, but I'm excited to see Johnson and Williams both. Hopefully we can get something going early on, try to combat the crowd. GO USA!
August 15th, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
Johnson has been serviceable but Williams is better as a winger instead of defending. Need his speed farther up the field.
August 15th, 2012 at 7:56 PM ^
Good god -- did you see that temptress?
August 15th, 2012 at 8:14 PM ^
"Puto" when Howard boots the ball...close call for a goal there by EEUU.
GO USA!!!

I thought it was just benches. Looks semi-respectable (minus the fans).
August 15th, 2012 at 9:04 PM ^
stadium obviously not full.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:17 PM ^
50 year old place, all concrete... has some nice amenitites for the wealthy. The US fans sit in a steel cage and get spit on/stuff thrown at them.
Like OSU without US law and a really large amount of cultural hate. Also its 350 US fans v. 105K+whoever pays cash to squeeze in at the gate.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
Those are basically home games for Mexico.
August 16th, 2012 at 12:23 AM ^
Not to belabor the obvious, but there might actually be more Mexicans in SoCal than in many parts of Mexico proper.
August 15th, 2012 at 8:59 PM ^
Back line was solid for the most part, being as makeshift as it is. Biggest problem at half? Finding a way to control possession for more than a minute at a time. Also need to close down the easy passing lanes in the defensive third. All in all a solid half for a side without a lot of the top players.

Thumbs up: Fabian Johnson, Geoff Cameron, Luis Castillo
Thumbs down: Kyle Beckerman, Jermaine Jones, Jose Torres
August 15th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
Beckerman tends to have thumbs down games. I can't even remember the last time he had a thumbs sideways (neutral) game. When you see his touches you can tell why he is still in the MLS.

GREAT build-up play by Brek Shea,
every time I give up on him he reminds me that he still exists!
