Would be even remotely surprised. UM finished 5-7, has pretty much the same group of kids as last year, the kids that did leave were the teams most talented, we have a unproven QB. Many on here think because JH is coach that somehow that magically changes the fact that he is the HC of a 5-7 team. 64th is about spot on no matter how much that may hurt your ego.

They have the ability to impact the bowl/BCS/playoff picture in a way they shouldn't. Let's look at a hypothetical Michigan season. They start in the 60s, and maybe rattle off a run of great wins. As the last stretch of the season starts, they will have to pass teams with similar records who are ahead of them based only on preseason projections. I would rather those teams be grouped on a track record first.

This game is set up perfectly for WMU.

This arguably the most talented team in the history of the MAC as the Broncos have had the two highest recruiting rankings ever by a MAC team.

This a home game for WMU which seems extremely odd that MSU would go there to play but that changes some things a bit.

Also MSU plays Oregon the following week in East Lansing so this game against WMU is a classic lookahead spot.

State always seems to struggle early on. I just don't see MSU blowing WMU out especially at Waldo Stadium. They will still win it, but think it will be closer than some think. Also, polls are meaningless until mid-season.

With all the Sparty fans there it'll probably sound like a Spring Game in EL.  It also helps to have an experienced senior QB on the road, regardless of environment.  I guess I'll be in the surprised camp if this thing is close in the second half.

Flanked by his fellow athletic directors -- EMU's Derrick Gragg, CMU's Dave Heeke and WMU's Kathy Beauregard -- as he made the announcement Thursday at Spartan Stadium, Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said, "The economic impact from the collaboration of these four institutions is enormous, especially in this situation." The arrangement will keep millions of dollars inside the state of Michigan while saving the universities considerable revenue by reducing travel expenses and guaranteed appearance fees.

No comment, just giving the reasoning for it. Link
