eff dantonio, what an asshole.
spoiler alert: i linked this
eff dantonio, what an asshole.
I would go with rude, disrespectful, classless, immature.. If he wasnt aware of how things worked then he definitely had zero business re arranging the entire program.. Also shows how much he pays attention to these events and their outline.. I know its beneath him to read and all but i dont think for a second this happens with hoke up there so what does that say? Im red hot he had the balls to speak let alone interrupt our schools' allotted time.. What an asshat!
Basically, Dantonio got up and interrupted a coach to stop him from making the conference solely about the University of Michigan, thus making the conference solely about the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry. Makes sense.
Doesn't make me angry, makes me laugh and happy that day by day, those not in love with him because of a couple winning seasons recognize him for the child that he is. Particularly happy that those people are Michigan HS coaches.
I think a lot of us have been hoping this would pick up steam and the msm would rail him for it. I see all accounts to be very mild and open to interpretation. So all we are left with is hoping a few coaches decide to steer their kids Michigan's way instead of considering state.
It may have appeared it the USA Today but notice who wrote the actual article.
A Spartan slapdick from the Freep.
1. While I agree many coaches will just use it to confirm their biases, the fact remains that not every HS coach grew up on one side or the other, and relationships with schools don't last forever. Otherwise, people would never focus on local roots for coaching candidates. If college coaches can't influence how a high school coach views their school, it wouldn't matter, schools would permanently fall in line.
2. College football season just ended, we're dying for anything. At least I am.
I think it is overblown a little bit. 20 years ago, this wouldn't be an issue. But with the internet, everybody knows.
My interest in it is because his actions just don't make sense to me. I don't know why he thought it would be a good idea to interrupt when he admitted that he didn't know how things were run. MInd boggling.
I think a state college head coach showing his ass in front of a room full of the state's high school head coaches would have been a big deal 20 years ago. The fans just wouldn't know about it.
You do have over 3000 posts, sparty.
20 years ago, an asshole B1G head coach would not have immaturely interrupted a fellow "higher" education coach. Pride comes before the fall Dantonio, remember?
"Very overblown story."
Perhaps. But it provides a nice counterweight to the saintly image he has with so many people in Michigan.
Picture the people who fully bought the mainstream media version of RichRod before reading Three & Out. Some have (right here) admitted that they judged him too harshly.
Now, picture similar types in MSU's base.
Spartans aside, I've met at least a few people who have said something along the lines of "MSU seems to be doing well. That Dantonio fellow has, I hear, brought some long-needed discipline to that program and cleaned it up."
I'm serious. Some people know only what's in the Det News or Freep.
Parroted this during the bowl game, so it does exist
There is no saintly image of Dantonio. He's a prick and most people acknowledge that. Spaties will deny it, but the way he handled the engineer beatdown and the remarks about the bowl game from that team have everyone else understanding what they're all about.
You should have heard 97.1 in detroit today. All of the Sparty slappies were gloating about showing a scum coach his place. I can't wait till we beat lil bro's ass next season.
It never ceases to amaze me how much sparty hates us. They can take a pure classless situation and turn it into a heroic effort.
I wish sparty would join the MAC where he belongs. We can still play them in basketball once a year and in football every 4th year or so. I have to laugh when they have the "poor me" attitude. I realize that I am closer to sparty than many on the blog, and I have a clearer view of the sibling rivalry, but sparty is sparty. He will never change his hatred for us. Its been that way since my earliest childhood memory.
Let's say for a minute that Dantonio was a class act and truly had an issue with the format. He could have still interrupted but said a number of things differently. For example, he could have said, "Im sorry Mr. Hecklinski but may I interrupt for a second?" Then proceed to ask the moderator a question.
Most of us on this board were raised by a two-parent household. We were taught to say "excuse me" or "Im sorry but..." and then proceed. I do not have a problem with Dantonio interrupting the event, its the way he chose to do it. Its all about class.
Izzo showed his lack of class too. He never gave us any credit. All he talked about was how his team lost the game, and not how we won the game.
Anyone that thinks Dantonio was right, it classless. Does that make them bad people? Not necessarily, but there is rarely a sparty out there who has class.
I'm curious what you mean when you write, "closer to Sparty than most on this blog"?
about the fact that my sister is an alum and part time instructor. She is also in the PhD program. Her husband works for a company that is a supplier to sparty (not us thank God) and gets special access to many things. I live close to EL and have been there many times for other events (graduations etc). I have several friends who went to sparty and I have been to the "Village" many times.
I worked for a company where the CEO is king sparty (top tier booster) and only hires sparty. I got lucky and was hired before he became CEO. I also worked along side a former sparty FB and BB player. My company was basically a cesspool for washed up sparty athletes. Many didnt not show up for work for days on end. I was told to "keep quiet" so I did because they paid me well and I never had to compromise my principles. My office was always maize and blue and I took a lot of $hit for it. There were a few of us who banded together. We were good if we just didnt get into the water cooler talk every morning.
It makes me angry because we've been losing to MSU for the last four years, and Dantonio proves over and over again how much of an asshole he is. It sucks losing to assholes. It also makes me angry that he was an asshole to one of Michigan's coaches, because Hecklinski seems like a decent guy and he's one of our own. It also makes me angry because I generally hate assholes.
New found respect for Hecklinski not letting ass napkin Dantonio get to him. Also this just reaffirmed my hatred for Dantonio.
I just can't wait till we beat them the next 5 years in a row, and it goes back to the way it use to be. I swear every 20 years MSU is good thier fan base gets cocky then the team falls apart and the fans go and hide in the dark, just waiting for the next great MSU run.
Just five years?
Go USA Today tear that asshat down.
"How many here expect to have athletes on work release? One, two, three ... stop I can't count that high. You all come in this corner and talk to me. Let's go."
"How many here expect your players to do more reading in prison than they do in college? One, two. Good, you are with me. I will show you our Plax Program."
OK, here's what we're going to do. We're going to talk about the logistics of getting a player from prison to the practice field.
...now I'd like to join in the fun if nobody minds:
how Merx defends him when he totally douched up.
This is laugh out loud material. Thank you for your service.
A sixth point should be awarded to you.
We're only going to talk about Big Ten recruiting.
Michigan recruiting? Go in the corner.
he's clearly stating that Michigan recruiting is at another level than them.
Rivals Recruiting Ranks as of 1/21/12
It IS a life or death situation. He sees Michigan rising and his program diminishing before his eyes. He's paranoid about it. And rightly so.
I think Hecklinski has really changed the tide on the (lesser) rivalry. Hell high school coaches in Michigan don't mind listening to him for 20 minutes. Never in a million years I would have thought that. "Getting in Dantonio's head" is a great start.
I think there are microorganisms too big to get inside Dantonio's head. If I had any computer skills, I would post a little clip of Tom Hanks saying "I'm not a smart man."
Maybe one of my more tech-abled brethren can help me out.
Organisms? Yuri, of that you?
Congratulations on being the first MSU fan and/or alum to ever use the term "indicative" (nevermind use it correctly) in a sentence.
Big improvent, I hasten to add, over the combination of guttural noises and harmonic mouth-breathing that is being strung together over on your native boards, each comment more than the last serving as nothing more than an increasingly perverted affront to the King's. YOUR BOARDS- where, by the way, the threads on this same topic are extremely limited in number and rarely commented upon.
Fact is, you as a fan base, but more importantly you as an individual person, are beneath us. Your coach is just an extension of this basic principle, and so we can't help but revel and bask in the butthurt he consantly exhibits in the wake of what has been for you a period of unqualified success. The window has slammed shut on his cold, arthritic hands, hands that have likely never masturbated to anything other than Kirk Cousins' press conference highlights in the entirety of their existence. He knows its over: so do you, I'm guessing. Hes just a douche. Attitude reflects leadership, by the way. ? We can't help but giggle a bit at all of- sorry if we offended..
(Looks around) Who are you talking to???
Good to know there are no threads on RCMB about this. Look, do you think Dantonio was professional in this situation or not?
I would love to know what all the high school coaches thought about his remarks.
Isn't it nice to have a State coach that is so easy to despise? John L. Smith was a whack job. Bobby Williams was like a deer caught in headlights. Nick Saban wasn't the known weasel he is now. And although George Perles' green and white talk was nauseating, he was basically harmless, not to mention he was best friends with Bo. to listen jskdsjksd
But this tool? As if the moment of silence for us after 'the horror,' and that war with Mike Hart wasn't enough, this is no different despite a 4 game winning streak (after it took MSU nearly half a century to beat us in back to back years.)
It's amazing how the winning cures all formula has no effect on Dantonio.
This is yet another reason why I am so damn proud and thankful to have coaches Beilein and Hoke representing U of M. This week, both State coaches have proven yet again that they are petulant asshats. To be honest, I am almost embarrassed for State. But then I think about that spray painted car and I just say fuck it.
Did we even play MSU this season? All I remember is beating ND and OSU and winning the Sugar Bowl.
My God what a douche. The guy seriously needs a therapist. I don't care what program you're a fan/coach of, being a decent human being should trump that. Then again, the thorough ass-kicking he's receiving on the trail would be hard on anyone.
This is not what a little brother would do...at all. Ha! Unbelievable how true that nickname is.
I really didn't know how this was all going to work, this forum," Dantonio said. "This is the first time we've ever done this, and I just didn't know how this was going to work, and I didn't want it to become a recruiting presentation.
Lets say our guy was off topic (I don't think he was, but let us just say he was). First of everyone at every conference wanders off topic. Secondly it is the first time. Any time you set up a new conference series the first few are always complete writes offs. Basically you throw shit at the wall in terms of speakers and see who sticks around.
If our guy had gone up there and talked about muppets for 15 minutes, it still doesn't justify this kind of behavior. The first couple of conferences are always about sitting on your hands and letting different people go down different paths. You provide feedback about those paths when you do an evalulation of the conference. Or if the guy really mailed it in, you rip him up a bit in the Q&A. You never interrupt though.
The poster here should not put so much trust that USA Today got it right. Mark appears an insecure angry man with little control over his emotions and evwn less control over his players. I hope all the Coaches and parents learned some valuable information for their sons' futures.
Its like Dantonio doesn't have an ounce of professionalism in him. If you don't like the speaker, or what he's saying, put your iphone on mute and play angry birds or make a to do list instead. I've been dozens of professional seminars and conferences, as an attendee, panelist and speaker, and have yet to see someone so domineering and rude to a speaker like this. Sure you can have occasional interruptions, but its normally someone who wants to ask a question before they forget it, and even that is considered rude if its against the speaker's wishes (which can be, "Please hold all questions till the end of my spiel.")
If Dantonio didn't want to listen to what Hecklinski had to say, he could have taken out his phone and played some Angry Birds. If he wanted to be a dick, he could have "forgotten" to turn the sound off before he started playing.
If he'd done that, at least he'd have been an amusing dick.
Why did the quoted gentleman get so behind Dantonio? It sounded like he wanted to save face for that asshole. Why is he sucking the dick of the guy who just made himself look like an asshole?
Hey Mark, you play in the Big Ten too, you know that right? We let you guys stick in the conference for some god-unknown reason. So you're alienating your own pipelines. That means you should be "off in that corner" as well. Leave the MAC coaches to talk business if that's really your intention.
Seriously, what a fucking asshole. Battery charges be damned, if I ever meet him he's going to come out of it with teeth worse than the current state
for the first time in decades, he sure is an insecure individual.
The H.S. coaches in the room must have been like "WTF dude?"
class is heading towards top 50. Its been a fun week watching a few coaches meltdown. Usually a sign the end is coming.
Have there been comments made yet by any of the coaches in attendance who actually heard the exchange first hand? It just seems odd to me that every report we are getting seems to condone MD's behavior somewhat and despite their national recruiting prominence and all MSU doesnt really have a global reach in the media. I am equally puzzled by Hecklinski's "I know my place" line which seems remarkably acquiescent for someone publically rebuked in front of the very people he needs to win over. Absent of film evidence of the altercation I cant help but wonder if it was percieved as negatively for MD as we are portraying the exchange.
I would feel a lot better about the validity of our righteous indignation if I heard from a HS coach or too that it went down as badly for MSU as we think it did.
I think what Hecklinski meant was that he's only an assistant, and isn't going to start a flame-war with a Head Coach, no matter how much of a d-bag said HC is
This article was posted in the 2nd thread on the subject
I'm looking at msu's recruiting class and thinking that it might have been a good idea for MD to listen to the recruiting information Hecklinski was providing free of charge.
You managed to completely miss my point. I'll try again (and this time I'll write slower). Do you see ANY comments by ANY high school coaches that were there and heard it first hand?
No...what you have here is the same that was published yesterday on MLive. Quotes by Marky Mark, Heckinsky and the head of the conference. No actual high school coaches. That is what i meant when i wrote "Have there been comments made yet by any of the coaches in attendance who actually heard the exchange first hand? "
Perhaps the term "first hand" was confusing to you - I should've said "actually heard them speak" or something not quite as obtuse.
Perhaps your comprehension skills are not as gooder as you think they am.
I don't even see a post replying to your last one.
Ernis - up two. Another reply got between mine.
I thought he was just criticizing the OP for reposting the article that was in the previous thread. Whatever
While his actions, clearly, were classless, look at the result: M's presentation got cut short. Dantonio won the PR battle in the eyes of many. Like it or not, the masses respond positively to a mouth-breathing, chest-thumping buffoon who postures himself as a tough guy. They love it... out of their politicians, film stars, Top 40 hit makers, etc.
I don't think it matters if Hecklinski's presentation was cut short. The actual content of these speeches is rarely significant. What's important is the aftermath, when you work the room and schmooze the HS coaches. It sounds like Dantonio left in a huff after it was over while our guys stayed put to talk to the coaches for a long time after.
that's by far the most important aspect of this whole episode. Petulant Mark couldn't swallow his gigantic and paper-thin pride enough to stay, while UM's staff focused on what they were there for.
I liken it to running for political office, especially nationally. Every successful candidate has to make sure that he plays to his natural base, and Dantonio does that very well; the kids and HS coaches across the state who have always loved MSU think Dantonio's great. Hoke does that job as well as Dantonio does.
However, generally you have to also win over independents, or in the football sense, win over kids who are open to considering playing for either MSU or Michigan, and their coaches. That's where Dantonio's dickishness is going to hurt him.
MSU shows their true colors once again. Bet he woldn't have tried that had it been Coach Hoke.
Stay classy Michigan. Go Blue!
the color of envy.
Dantonio's outburst is another step in the process of him turning into a guy with classes who coaches in short sleeves, destroys yard markers and will eventually slug an opposing player. Yes, he's turning into Wayne Woorow Dantonio before our very eyes.
This is just another reason why dantonio has never and will never be offered a HC position of a top program.
They said that about Saban when he was at MSU. Lots of people thought he was an arrogant dickhead. Which, of course, isn't far fromt he truth.
Fact is, Dantonio has built a very good program at MSU in a relatively short time. Yes, it's true that most of the program's success has been during a Michigan downturn, but it's not just Michigan that his teams have done a good job against. I think he'd have done just fine against Lloyd as well, once his recruits were in place.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like Dantonio. But at this point, you'd have to admit that he has been a very effective coach and program builder. And his combative, insecure personality fits MSU to a tee.
rightmind, apparently you have a dog in the fight, otherwise why would you be standing up for Dantonio. What arrogance?, He was at a conference talking about recruiting like everyone else. But then an immature jerk interuppted him. Tell me whats more arrogant, thinking your the moderator of a conference that you didn't even know the format, or acting like a little girl and leaving in a temper tantrum when the main session was over. Did I add that he left without talking to any of the high school coaches that you were supposed to be helping. While M coaches stayed and gave advice. Slap yourself in the back of the head and TRY to stay classy DC.
He's been reported in the moderator action sticky. He'll be banned by Monday.
no way in hell he pulls that crap if it was Hoke or Mattison talking. What a POS.
