Double post accidently.
Gonna be Great! the announcers are even predicting USA to ge a win or tie!
Their normal soccer coverage is bad enough, but they dumb it down to ridiculous levels when they think the casual audience is watching. Julie Fowdy, some Eastern European guy no one has ever heard of, and the old goalie for Trinidad. Where do they find these "experts"? At least Tommy Smyth is kind of funny with his leprechaun lunacy, even if he knows nothing and has only hidden that fact from uninformed American viewers thanks to his over the top accent.
I'm part of the dumb casual audience that shows up every 4 years. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of the ABC crew once they get this started.
i like it when smyth calls the action...i think he has both humor and insightful analysis, i never thought of him as a know nothing.
lalas sounded 'over the top' with his comments about how pathetic greece looked.
Either way, this will be the first soccer game I've watched in a long time.
Last cup U.S. was the only team to tie Italy and they didn't get beat, this World Cup should be interesting.
We also got our shit pushed in by the Czech Republic and Ghana, finishing last in our group. If our performance at the last World Cup is being taken as an indication of future success we are doomed.
I guess I just remember the best part of the World Cup last year. I guess it wasn't even that great didn't Italy score our goal for us?
Via @ussoccer on twitter, here is the starting XI:
Today's lineup:#USMNT: Howard; Cherundolo, DeMerit, Onyewu, Bocanegra (c); Donovan, Bradley, Clark, Dempsey; Altidore, Findley
Anyone watch the E:60 Dempsey story? I feel sorry for the guy loosing his sister when she was just 16.
...that was a very good production and he has a compelling story. Tough position for a young kid to be put in.
anyone got a stream?

Never mind. Seems the MGoVideo guys are still ironing out some things with livestreaming via justintv.
There was copyright infringement block on the channel. That's a no go.
Justin.tv should have one...and Univision is streaming all games (tho it's in Spanish...)

Somebody tell these fat chicks that wearing a girdle doesn't mean you actually lost six inches in the waist.
Hoping for a win, but expecting a 2-2 draw.
I'm hoping we can score against them! We have some really good strikers, they should keep it really close.
I'll call the goals, Rooney,Lampard/Boca,Dempsey
...that result.
That's all, I'm off to the bar.
...Inspired by this post by user Court Wenley, I bring you the Dodge Challenger commercial that just started to air and will be featured in this afternoon's broadcast.
Here's a couple of things America got right. Cars...and freedom.
This is probably Ricky Stanzi's favorite commercial. Besides the fact that the battle appears to be taking place in the Mountain West, I'm kind of partial to it as well.
USA! USA! USA! USA!
Brian:
Look: the World Cup comes once every four years and, unlike that other quadrennial mega sporting event, never takes time out to talk to you about polar bears. I'm going to blog about the USMNT on the front page. If this annoys you, I cannot help it.
Jamiemac:
Word on no OT. Brian is frontpaging his own soccer posts. This is a de facto soccer blog for the next few weeks. It is decidely On Topic.
Findley starting
When does the game start?
I beilieve the actual game isn't beginning till 2:30est. Another 45 minutes of pregame left.
Whomever invented those freaking South African buzzing noisemakers, please contract gonorrhea and die.
I wont make it 2 hours with the sound on.
i think there cool, there better than the cowbells in my opinion.
*they're, *they're, *more annoying than
Findlay starting WTF! Bad decision....
I'm really behind on USA soccer... what's bad about him starting and in your opinion what is a better option?
[not being rude here - I really don't know and am curious]
Playing any two strikers against a top-10 team like England with our shaky back line is borderline retarded in my view. It is a huge gamble that I don't think is necessary to score and could prove fatal if Rooney and Co. get loose in the open field.
Picking a striker who, though athletic, doesn't score goals in MLS (a crap league) instead of someone like Gomez (plays in the better Mexican league and scored a lot of goals this year) or Buddle (on fire scoring goals in crappy MLS and plays well with Donovan who is probably our most important player) is questionable. In my opinion playing any striker we have (as you can see the options are limited) over defensive minded midfielders like Edu (plays regularly for the best team in Scotland) or Holden (plays regularly for a middle of the pack team in the EPL) who are actually decent players internationally and could provide much needed support for our back line makes no sense.
That helps... not only answered the question but also gave insight to some guys I don't know anything about. Thank you sir.

When did Capello go completely mental? Lampard/Gerrard alone with no holding help. Old, fat, out of form Heskey over Crouch or Defoe. We've got a shot against this group and I can't wait to see the meltdown when it happens.
USA!
Gerrard is likely going to play the holding role until Barry's healthy. Takes away some attacking options but fills Barry's gap pretty effectively.
Frank is completely useless in the middle of the park. Gerrard has to do all the dirty work and play basically two spots with this lineup. He also can't get forward like he would want and like the US would/should fear. There is a reason the English didn't qualify in 2008 and much of it has to do with playing these two together. Just watch the closeups during the game of Gerrard cursing under his breath at all the clean up duty he'll have to shoulder the load for.
I've never been a Lampard fan and this lineup completely wastes Gerrard's talent. The problem with moving Gerrard forward or on the wing is that there is no one else but Barry who can play holding midfield and I have no faith in the English defence right now.
you mean defense, right? we speak English here, not British.
:D
Canadian Michigan fan with English family.
Wasn't certain if I should risk a neg-banging by posting during this game.
It's ok. I'm just messing with you.
Findlay lacks the skill for this level. Yes. He is fast but thats it. When we played the Netherlands two months ago, he looked lost. I'm hoping he plays well tonight though and proves me wrong.
