You're right but you brought up the merits of being elite.  I am done with this.  Playing golf well is incredibly difficult and a lot of guys even play hurt but it isn't a sport that is attached to carrying a man card.  I like golf, I play golf and I respect golf but I have never once thought to myself that I feel more like a man today because I played 18 holes.

At the US Olympic level?  Yeah, pretty much.

I don't know why you are trying to prove the manliness of golf, but you aren't going to win that argument.  It's a very skilled game played by talented folk, but nobody looks at even in-shape golfers and says "wow, check out the elite athletes in those pleated pants."

Your argument is crap since you even admitted you don't watch golf. All the young folders today are jacked and in incredible shape. They are clearly elite athletes and will be Olympic athletes soon. 2016 in Rio will have golf.

I never said I don't watch it; I said I find it incredibly boring to watch.  I usually watch the final rounds of majors and will keep it on in the background if nothing better is on.  And I used to play golf semi-regularly back when I lived in Michigan.

You keep trying to rebut some argument I'm not making - I think being good at golf is really tough, and I give them credit for being in shape.  But you apparently am unable to accept the fact that swimmers are also in great shape and, on average, in better overall shape than golfers (and lots of other athletes).  Many professional golfers are "jacked"; show me a fat olympic swimmer.

We have many Wolverines in many sports, and not all of them are football and basketball. Perhaps if you look at it as our school simply being able to attract top notch talent across the spectrum of competitive sport, that might help. This blog definitely serves to honor all of our athletes doing well for themselves and competing on bigger stages. It only helps Michigan in the long term.

You seem like you've got something stuck up your butt that makes you want to pick a fight.  I'm sure you'll have some pithy remark as a comeback, but I'm gonna kinda move on from this little debate we have going on and hang out with my daughter.  Hell, we might even watch the end of the PGA Championship.

But go enjoy being the toughest guy on a college football message board.

I don't know who you are but we wouldn't be friends in real life. I am actually quite flummoxed as to how you can consider golf and swimming on the same level. Unless you swam in college or a professional golfer fucked your wife.

You and BloomingtonBlue should rent a place together and try to get a reality show out of it where you get in internet fights with people who think golf isn't awesome.

And for the record, the fact you can't understand why I think two athletic endeavors can be on the same level while still requiring different physical and mental abilities is on you, not me.

Started well with the OP. Then died a quick death when Trolly McTrollerson pulled the man card ....card.

To address the troll. Michigan has quite a few swimmers at the US Senior Nationals. This is notable because we routinely field one of the best collegiate swim teams in the country and have done so since 1982. In much the same manner that I now pay attention to Jacksonville to see if Denard gets some carries, I will watch swimming over golf to watch Michigan swimmers swim fast.

If you can't appreciate the tradition of Michigan's non revenue sports excelling and think that watching those athletes over pro golfers is somehow effeminate..... I'm not sure what to tell you.
