LONG OVERDUE
US Army All-American Bowl Thread
This is much better to watch than the UA one.
...and not a show.
It just sucks that it's diluted and UA took a lot of the top players. This game used to be VERY fun to watch. It was like watching an early season CFB game. Still good, but not as many playmakers as they used to have pre-UA.

Agreed...with caveat of these being 17-19 yr old young men, in my estimation the Under Armour game had better prospects who were more skillful and physically ready for FBS.

I disagree completely. I think there's more talent in the Army game.
It's the top 180 players in the country...it's not like they got 1-90 and Army got 91-180.
Army has a 6'3, 245lb RB...or Derrick Green and Max Browne who are physically ready to play next year. Kendall Fuller will play next year for the Hokies (wish he was opposite Countess).

What do you expect? The Under Armour game is driven by the recruiting prowess of ESPN.

So Green works out a bit, huh? I'll be damned.
Indiana has a commit in this game? halol

My man refused to use the screen, lol...
Must be a Buckeye commit

Dymonte is playing FS in this game...is that where you see him at Michigan or would he play SS?
“True loyalty is that quality of service that grows under adversity and expands in defeat. Any street urchin can shout applause in victory, but it takes character to stand fast in defeat. One is noise — the other, loyalty.”
No, I think he'll be a SS. He basically played LB in high school. I don't like moving guys back in the defense, but going from LB to SS isn't a big deal because of the way Mattison uses his strong safeties.
I also would like to see us find that ball hawking, Ed Reed type FS that is more of a CB than a LB.
With that said, do you think Thomas has a legit shot to replace Kovacs next year?

I wouldn't rule it completely out, but I don't think anyone likes freshman safeties. He probably needs to spend at least one year backing up whoever wins the SS job, whether it's Thomas Gordon or Marvin Robinson.
Do you think it's more likely that Marvin Robinson wins the SS job and Gordon continues to play FS or do you think the coaches slide Gordon over to SS and see if Wilson can play FS?
"The unexamined life is not worth living." Socrates.
If the new season started today, I'd guess Gordon would stay at FS and Robinson would start at SS. Wilson had some issues this past year. But if he can get those things cleaned up in the spring, then I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilsin at FS and Gordon slide over to SS. Gordon is more naturally a SS, and Wilson offers speed that Robinson doesn't have.
Shane was in this game instead of that UA farce
Green looked a little banged up to me on that TD drive, he woulda prolly scored that TD, hope he's ok
But the glitz and glam of ESPN and UA is making that "game" bigger every year.
It's also more focused on 1 on 1 battles and the week leading to the game. Army is more of an all-star game...UA is more of a showcase.

I hate to say it, but Shane Morris would look bad in this game, too. He's not ready for this level of competition yet.
Just a year to get bigger, stronger, learn the offense and get acclimated to college.

Glad to see he's okay...

...and I believe he's the DL coach.
They've also go a new stadium.

in the MAACO Bowl. From what they showed on TV (from UW's marketing department, granted) it looked absolutely incredible. We've seen firsthand what the renovations at Crisler did for recruiting; imagine how much a whole stadium could help.

This was expected.
Scout has commit predictions for the game, their 2-2 so far... They only have one guy going to OSU (3 players announcing have them as their finalists...) I hope they get even less.

What does Tosh Lupoi do that other coaches don't?

I wonder if Shane chose to play in the UA game because he knew he would have a chance to work on Laquan for a week, i wouldnt bet against it
He was at the combines and showcases last year...just like there are juniors at the Army combine now. You pretty much know over a year in advance. Shane also played 7v7 over the summer on the Disney/ESPN circuit.
Both he and LaQuon have been a part of that system for awhile now.

was michigan in on this guy in the past or was that another guy i am thinking of?
also i really think public speaking or at least a speech class should be offered in the high schools so maybe these kids could actually put a sentence together, pronounce a word properly, and have the ability to communicate. what do you think hoke thinks when he meets some of these kids?
Every year when these kids talk it makes me think we need to focus on education.

I know right because announcing on national tv isn't scary at all...
If you don't like Michigan you are a peasant
Michigan used to be in on him, but they stopped recruiting him several months ago.
Because Corey Robinson sounds like an idiot right now...

How long before Wilson/Thomas see the field together...if ever?
Strength equipment is expensive and guarantees you nothing. A strong will is free and can give you everything you want.
I think they'll be the starting safeties in 2014.
Depends on if Wilson can bump Gordon to SS next year.

Say what you want about our abomination jerseys, but thank GOd we didn't look that bad with the split helmets.
is hurt right? That's why he's not playing I presume.
So Magnus, how come you think Shane isn't ready for this level yet, competition in HS, mechanics?
Yeah, Fox has a torn ACL.
Shane's mechanics are fine. But his high school competition wasn't very good, he missed a big chunk of his senior year, and he stares down receivers. I don't think he's ever thrown a ball to his right. He's also a pocket passer, and the pass protection in these all-star games is questionable. He'll get there eventually, but he's not there yet.

Shit.
Note: Sitting on the bench, seems fine...just a boo boo.
