U.S. Army All-American Bowl open thread
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is being played today at 1:00 p.m. EST on NBC. Unfortunately, Michigan has zero commits playing in the game, but there are several targets, some former commits, and a couple guys who could end up at Michigan before all is said and done.
I've listed Michigan's offered prospects here:
http://touchthebanner.blogspot.com/2015/01/2015-us-army-all-american-bo…
The players making commitments today are:
WR Lawrence Cager
TE Devonaire Clarington
DT Neville Gallimore
CB Tim Irvin
WR Stanley Norman
DE Kyle Phillips
WR Ykili Ross
S Marvell Tell
DE D'Andre Walker

The dead period lasts for another week or so (I want to say it ends January 15). That means no in-person contact, so I doubt anyone from U of M would be there.

Thanks. I fixed it in the OP.

Or Magnus' post above?

Lots of people don't like me. It's okay.
They're also too chicken to neg the OP because then it would reveal their identity, but that's okay, too.

I'm very outspoken about my opinion, and I don't shy away from conflict. Some people don't like my opinions and think I'm arrogant. I think there are people who frequent this board who are a lot more offensive than I am, but oh well.

I don't know why people don't actually like you, but the reasons people tend to spew are all pretty dumb. "What do you know, aren't you like a middle school football coach or something? As an assistant IT manager, I know way more than you." That seems to be the typical dig.
January 3rd, 2015 at 12:44 PM ^
Yeah, that's a pretty consistent "insult." I don't really get it, either. The funny thing is that those same insults aren't directed at Brian, Ace, Tim Sullivan, etc., none of whom have a history of playing or coaching football (AFAIK; please correct me if I'm wrong). So I guess there must be something more to people's dislike for me, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

let's quit talking about why you think you get negged. It's the internet after all. But characterizing those who disagree with you as the "hive mind" may be a partial explanation. Sometimes you get what you sow.
Oh--I haven't negged you here.

I like you, but I negged the OP for shits and giggles.... feel free to neg me back...
I miss the good ole days of +5 interesting and what not...

But there was a ton of clamoring to bring back the posbang and negbang. It's nice to see a great post get +100 or a troll getting hammered.
January 3rd, 2015 at 2:49 PM ^
I was an advocate of the negbang/posbang system...trolls would show up, post some tOSU or Sparty crap and the worst they'd get was a -1. You see it now a new account gets to 100 starts posting crap like that and boom, neg'd to Bolivian and no more of that.
Hivemind polices things.

Just because I felt like you were daring me to.
Lol.

I don't really agree with that. If you look at the top 10 players in the 247 Composite rankings, 5 of them are in the Army game, including the top two players overall. It's just the Under Armour game gets more hype because of its fancy uniforms and being presented on ESPN right off the bat.

Mike Weber - #21 (West)
Keisean Lucier-South - #16 (West)
Interesting or just a slip up, but the full roster on 24/7 doesn't list a commitment for Weber, although his page still has him as OSU commit.

Is this the first time Michigan hasn't had a commit at the Army game?

Here are all the Michigan signees to have played in the Army game over the years, although there's still a chance for the Wolverines to add one or more guys by February:

Man, reading that list shows you what a crapshoot recruiting is. More than half these guys never wound up doing anything of note, and keep in mind these are all Army All Americans.
I've watched these AAA games for many years, and many of the names I was most excited about, such as big Will Campbell, were not the guys that had a big impact.
Meanwhile, there are a lot of names on this list that I didn't even realize were AAA's because they were not getting a lot of hype at the time, such as Gallon.

But Will Campbell was signed by the Bills after their season ended. He was on their practice squad, so he must have shown them enough to hold on to him. (Wonder if that was before or after their coach signed off?)

I always look at that gif and then BWC as a Senior and I think he looks like a before/after from Weight Watchers...S/C at a big time school makes all the difference.

You guys are being way too hard on those kids... they ain't coming there to play school!

I believe it was Erick Smith or Marshon Lattimore (last year's edition).
January 3rd, 2015 at 12:49 PM ^
Last year, if I recall correctly, someone committed to "The University of LSU".

I'd like to think that if I were a recruit, I would just pull a hat out of a bag or simply name the school. But I wonder how much of the hat thing is encouraged by the TV producers to build suspense and increase viewership.

Nope. He was a 2012 recruit, and Harbaugh had been in San Francisco for a year by then.
January 3rd, 2015 at 12:57 PM ^
#5 stars (by any service) pulled in before signing day:
#of total recruits that ultimately sign
# of wins in Harbaugh's first year
January 3rd, 2015 at 1:11 PM ^
I'll make some predictions just for poops and giggles, but I reserve the right to change my mind.
5-stars: 1. Michigan might swing Chuma Edoga, Keisean Lucier-South, or Iman Marshall (using Rivals's rankings).
Total recruits: 8 (plus the 6 we already have) for a total of 14.
Wins: 9. Just because.
