Spread guru at Big 10 school hires recently fired shitty head coach as defensive coordinator. Huh, I think I've seen that movie before. Wasn't there some kind of stuffed animal?

Of Meyer or Stoops. Ohio fans might call it being in denial, I call it being realistic. I firmly believe that Hoke is a better coach than Meyer and soon the whole world will see that.

Sorry, but saying that Hoke is a better coach than someone with a 104-23 record, two National Championships, and a 7-1 bowl record just makes you look like someone on RCMB or 11W talking about how their guys are better than everybody else, even when there is no supporting evidence.

If Hoke accomplishes at Michigan what Meyer accomplished at Florida, then there will be serious case for Hoke being better than Meyer.  Until then, the comparison is ludicrous at best.

My most ardent hope is that Ohio isn't getting "that" Urban Meyer.  If it was, as either story goes, it was alumni pressure and/or an extramarital dalliance that was causing Meyer's "health problems," Ohio might be getting "that" Urban Meyer.  OTOH, if his health problems were legit, and caused by the grind of what it takes to do the job as well as he did it, Ohio will be getting the Urban Meyer who didn't get the job done in his last year at Florida and quit on them twice.

Make no mistake about it: a healthy, focused Urban Meyer coaching at Ohio is our worst nightmare. I don't wish Meyer ill health, but it would be great if he was no longer able to be Superman and put in 100-hour weeks anymore.

Recall the bowl game he lost, where our offense was virtually unstoppable.  And that was Mike Debord's offense.  Plus, don't we have his DC from that 2006 NC team?  He probably knows a thing or two about the offenses he'll field.  I respect Meyer, but Jim Tressel staying at Ohio was really our worst nightmare.

I was thinking "easy tiger" when the worst nightmare statement was typed above. Seriously, Hoke/Mattison/Borges are certainly credible and Hoke is wise in that he gets quality coordinators and lets them manage the game offensively and defensively with his input. What we are headed toward (if Meyer is actually motivated) is a re-hash of the Bo/Woody and Mo/Carr/Cooper/early Tressel years with both teams being credible again.

There's no need to be scared of Urban Meyer; Mattison's got this. Agreed with JDCarr that Tressel staying was your worst nightmare (mainly due to the ongoing player illegalities, payments and the fact that as much as I detest his morality Tressel was a good coach).

So you're saying since our current universally praised defensive coordinator got destroyed by our former universally reviled offensive coordinator that this is proof we are in great shape no matter who Ohio State hires?

You can't claim Urban Meyer (who won three BCS bowls and a national title without Greg Mattison) doesn't scare you because we have his defensive coordinator, then claim that scoring 40+ points on that same defensive coordinator is proof that we can easily beat any Urban Meyer coached team down the road.

Building a roster with a Florida base is a little different than building a roster with an Ohio base. Ohio has a pretty good high school talent base, but the roster he could build with a Florida recruiting base was unreal. Go watch that title game against Ohio again. Urban will have success at Ohio, those teams will be nothing like those Florida teams. Ohio isn't nearly as deep.

he said "I firmly believe...", he didn't say Hoke is a better coach. He is entitled to his opinion. Time will tell if he is right or not.  You can say the body of evidence to judge may be limited but it isn't non-existent. So far Meyer has a more legitimate resume than Hoke but that doesn't mean it's a forgone conclusion. I think most people would say they think Harbaugh is going to be a really good NFL coach, even though we have less than a full NFL season to judge from. My gut tells me Hoke is going to be a good UM coach and I think he'll win his share of UM/Ohio matchups and probably a NC at some point.

There was some talk that Luke Fickell would stay on has DC, but if this news is true Luke is as good as gone. Maybe he can take the HC job at Ohio's big brother, Akron!

They can have the guy who just got fired at Arizona's D to 37 points given up to Stanford and OK State, and 50+ to Oregon.  Yeah.  Go ahead and take him on, Urban...if you're even going to be the coach.

"Reports coming in that Mike Stoops will be the DC for Urban Meyer. If this is true - Thoughts?" - dmoo4u

I will see everyone at The Game next  year then after we win. It's GERG but with infinitely less luscious hair.

to have the best coaching staff they can assemble, and STILL beat them.  That's what competition is about.  No gimmicks.  No ineligible players.

Michigan outmatched Ohio yesterday, yet Ohio gave a good fight and they played until the end. That's what makes the win worthwhile.

Mike stoops would be an excellent hire! He's a great DC and was such a terrible head coach nobody would dare hire him away! lmao

Mike Stoops was pretty good at Oklahoma, but a) that was already a long time ago; and b) that was in the Big 12 South, hardly the paragon of defensive football.

More recent history in the Pac-10 isn't as kind.

Of course, given the talent level of high schoolers in the state of Ohio, they'll always field an at least competent defense.

OSU hires whoever OSU hires, this is Michigan fer godsakes!

Let's focus on our team, our players, and our coaches and leave the fear and loathing and worrying to other fan bases about what we are doing.
